Wish there was a more slick way to do this

If your matrix columns are a fixed width (without scroll bars) you can make it look much better by simply inserting horizontal and vertical lines over the matrix. Once you have one vertical line very easy to copy and paste and place into position. Doesn’t take long at all.
Agree though that there should be a much simpler solution.

Thank you for the tip! An unfortunate issue here is if you have users toggling a filter to adjust the column headers (month, in this case), it will default to the expanded view as opposed to the manually narrower/preferred view. For example, I have a report showing Sales and Margin as a column header with Time Period as the higher column header. Users can select the Time Periods they wish to see. If they add one that is not defaulted, it will show the Separator bar but as wide as it originally appeared when you performed the "Specific Column" formatting.

      Hi @marksaba80,
That issue is bound to happen when a field is newly added which is not defaulted one since the column width is not set as per that field but once the column width is set for that field then that issue will not occur anymore, even if that column is removed and then added back later.
Also, usually, when users consume the report they view it in a Power BI Service and not in a Desktop version so they don't have control over the fields that can be newly added into the report unless and until requested to the Power BI Developer so that problem doesn't happen.

Thats awesome if you have only 1 column dimension. What if your Metrics 1, 2 and 3 were not values but a 2nd dimension in your matrix? In other words, in your Columns you'd have: [Month] and [Metrics]. Any hints on how to achieve the same visual result? i.e. still have a month separator line?

This is awesome 😎 I literally just had this request recently so I created a measure and assigned it the number 1 if blank and rule color black 🖤 renamed to a . And basically gave them a vertical line they could apply anywhere they wanted in their matrix. Your way is so much more efficient in bulk 😍 I am so glad you made this video 😀

Anyway this could work when there a multiple fields in the Columns section in a matrix table? And show these when you are drilled down?
