- This video demonstrates how to reverse code Likert scale scores using Microsoft Excel. An IF function is used with INDEX and MATCH functions to reverse code values when specified.
The easiest way to reverse any scale is to subtract by Q+1, so for a seven point scale the formula would be =8- B2
Great idea!
Thank you so much for this, just saved me a lot of extra work lmao
thanks!
OMG! That is so simple and it works! Thank you!
thank you!!!

omg that's brilliant!
Hi Todd. Thanks for the video. This is the walk-through I needed. I'm still a little stuck. I'm linking data from two Google sheets. If I sent you my spreadsheet can you give me some feedback about the stuck point?
Saved my life! Thank you
Hi Todd, could you put up a link to a template of this??
Thank youuuu so much! This was so helpful, I was breaking my head trying to process the input from FFMQ (Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnare) and this made it like a breeze. So happy :))
Super helpful sir.
Salute from Indonesia 🇮🇩.
Hello Todd, I need little help, how to use this formula for whole sheet when data is distributed horizontally...
very cool, thank you!
Here's a scoring formula: (UA-cam Tutorial=1; My Brain=0)
I like this video. How do I do this with 69 questions of a 7 point likert scale? I would like to then analyze in IBM SPSS. Please and thank you.
I found thi video to be very educational. I was wondering how you would score this scale when you had reversed the questions. So thanks.
Having just read about Likert scale, I found this video to help me both remember that particular scale as well as learn more about how excel works. I found it interesting how the numbers could easily be reversed.
Hi, This was super helpful! The problem I have is that for items that are 0 and reversed scored (0->2), the excel file automatically inputs a 2 even when there's no 0 entered (just a blank box). Is there a way to fix that? Thanks so much!
What does "pressing function for" (??) at 6:33 means?
Thanks for answers!
The F4 key (function four key) on the top of the keyboard will change a relative reference to an absolute reference.
Haha, funny misunderstanding! Thanks a lot!
there is an eazy way to do the same work :
=if(C2="R";(max-B2)+min;score) // where min=1 and max=5 for Likert 5Pts
great work thanx !
Hi,
I'm also looking for the easier way.
Thank you so much
Just make a new column and enter a formula for 6 - whatever number needs to be reverse coded (for a 5 point scale). 7 - whatever number needs to be recoded (for a 6 point scale).
Matt S. Hero, thank you!
can we apply this for 4 point scale !?
5-B2
