Jvp reflects the central veinous pressure AKA the right atrial pressure Provides info about vol.status and cardiac function Best assessed from the Rt internal jugular vein ( since it's in direct contact with right atrium ) Ensure proper position and exposure. Angle of 30° is good Identify the interior jug pulsations along the post border of sternocleido mastoid muscle. Difference between carotid pulse and jugular pulse is that it is soft and presents 2 pulsations per heart beat. And eliminated by slight pressure above clavicle. Shows variation with change in elevation/position. Also it disappears while inhalation >all these characteristics are absent in carotid pulse. Now for measurement use a ruler and a card. Place the card horizontally extending from meniscus to the rules standing vertically above the angle of louis/sternal angle. The vertical distance that the ruler shows at the point of interjection gives us the JVP 3-4 cm normal range above angle of louis 7-8 cm normal range above right atrium. (Writing a summary for myself...too lazy to note these things down on a notebook...i hope it helps others as well.)
What could it be If I feel pulsating at the left side of my neck? In the arteries/veins. It's horrible and I feel it too in the same side (left) in my brain.. My neck is swollen in that side of my neck. I don't know with what kind/specialist doctor should I go?
I once had jugular vein thrombosis...now I know more about JV then my sister who is almost doctor......the hospital wasn't able to conclude why I got JVT in first place even after their standard procedural tests...so I took it to myself to find the cause...

Finally a good video on how to measure the JVP!!! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!.

It's not becoz patient is examined from right side....it's bcoz rt jugular vein directly reflects right atrial pressure (1:12)
And this the reason why we stand on the right side of the patient...
Thank you very much Doctor❤️
Most welcome!
Awesome explanation bro need more stuff like This 💥💥
More to come!
Thank you
Thank you Doctor.

Thank you so much! 6/8/2019 😁
Can you measure the JVP from the clavical as an alternative method to measuring the vertical height from the sternal angle.
yup
Is this normal
👍👍

I find this video very informative and helpful; however, I felt the patient was not treated with the respect she deserved
altressad patient was a dude though not a chick?
I feel you've disrespected the male patient by calling him female lol xD
