      Do you know college education value is getting lower and lower. The most important things a kid should learn well are Mathematics and Languages. The more languages that you can speak and write. The better paid or chances one would get. You can learn many many things by taking online courses. I wish that I started my own business when I was 18. College education is expensive and there is no guarantee.

    I am accepting of the reality of my station in HiFi. I don't decry it, I accept it with aplomb. One of the things that I really enjoy about your reviews, Steve, is the way that I can almost hear the differences between my reality, and the ultra high end equipment that you do review from time to time. Your descriptive resonate with me in ways that most don't. Thank you for what you do, and how you do.it. no snobbery. Peace

    For reasons of budget plus preferences, I am sticking with tubes. My Zen will stay and I’m toying with building the Elekit 8200R to dabble with 6L6 and variants in single ended architecture. But I *AM* glad to see Class D progressing and giving people more options.

    Thank you for your thoughtful and though provoking video Steve. I've been mulling over a speaker upgrade for a few years now. My initial concern was that I wanted my music to sound fuller, bigger, and more present. However, the deeper I've gone into reviews, articles, and forums, I've realized that off-axis response is a big part of what I'm searching for. I do stand up. I do move around. Yes, I dance too. What's more, sometimes I want my wife and son or guests (now that that's starting to be an option) to be able to get swept away in the music without staying glued to a single spot (something I think most folks are unwilling to do). I'm even realizing that I'm willing to sacrifice some things on the ideal audio checklist to achieve that freedom of movement.

    Great review and welcome to the dark side! I understand the 'Neo Bluegrass' genre is commonly described as 'Newgrass' when the roots are Bluegrass orientated, and 'New Acoustic' when the roots are (commonly) more celtic. These guys do organise music more classically with things like motive development and form, and have made notable recordings of classical music (Mayer/Bach, Bell - many concerto performances). Check out the 'Goat Rodeo' project including classical cello star Yo-Yo Ma - a super recording.

    I bought the Tambaqui and Makua combination and can’t believe the detail and musicality delivered. The musicality is so good I feel like I can identify the brand of strings used on the instruments. You can hear piano notes and the hammer strikes. You can hear someone knocking on a door outside the recording studio (exaggeration). The detail and musicality is phenomenal. Reminds me of how much information resides in the digital format. It’s a shame one must spend so much money to hear all the things a mic picks up.

    That 300B amp mentioned is Model T technology! I have three single-end tube amps: a 45, a 2A3 and a 6BG6. The last is the most powerful with about 6-8 watts from its tetrode output stage! The 45 is mostly good for headphones with its 1.75 wpc. The 2A3 could drive the Cornwall's fairly well. But for an all-round amp that class D Kula could beat many of today's touted offerings!

    Man I love your reviews...Class D has sure come a long way!! I would love for you to get your hands on a pair of KLH Kendall Towers to review. I had auditioned quite a few two channel speaker systems at my local dealer here in Huntsville Alabama, AVIQ...and read one of the few reviews about the KLH Kendalls, and was piqued by their claims of hitting the Subsonic lever of 25hz as not many Towers, even very expensive ones can achieve true sub base level. Well as one reviewer said, they do and extremely well. I am running them with a Yamaha A-S801 and Im not sure there is a better value for a Integrated/Speaker combination than this. I know you focus on the more expensive equipment...most of the time, but throw the price out of the window because at any price, Im not sure I've heard a more pleasing speaker system as legitimately you have no need for a subwoofer...I tried with Martin Logan and is just "clouded" the music with what seemed an "artificial" insertion of bass. At $1299 a pair, its hard to believe the sound as good as they do. I think they are worth your gracing them with a listen!!!

    Great review, Steve, as usual, and I bet you spent quite a few hours setting up all the comparisons you mention. It is puzzling though you compare the amp section of the Mola Mola with a tube amp that costs $2000 and probably performs in the 5K range. Given that most audiophile purchases are not impulsive, I wonder how the class D amp compares to similarly priced class AB amps. Not that there is a chance that Bruno Putzeys would sell a 13K lackluster amp but still wondering... Ahh, for the DAC of course, there is no question. This is the one to get.

    off topic, I know & I'm sorry, but I'm really wondering: I know you have thousands of CDs and maybe thousands of LPs - what's your method of keeping track of them? Do you have some kind of cataloging system? Do you have your own special taxonomy (-ies)? I always see CDs lying around in stacks - do you put them back somewhere, or maybe just try to remember what particular stack of CDs has the one you're looking for, at any particular moment?

    • @HareDeLune
      @HareDeLune 3 роки тому +2

      A DAC is a Digital to Analog Converter.
      It is an electronic system (or also 'chip', depending on the design), which converts a digital signal into an analog signal.
      A Digital Transport, if I understand the term correctly, is a CD Transport with a 'digital output'.
      That means you will have to connect the transport to either an outboard DAC, or another piece of equipment (such as an Integrated Amp) with it's own built-in DAC, in order to listen to CD's.
      A standard CD player usually has it's own built-in DAC.

Plus the klipsch cornwall has far too many crossover components to retrieve any sort of high levels of detail with resolution, it is completely compromised from the very start.

    Musicality, where a piano sounds like a piano...as opposed to some amps where a piano sounds like a guitar?

    • @HareDeLune
      @HareDeLune 3 роки тому +2

      This can be a difficult concept to grasp until you've heard it yourself.
      It's like an annoying hum that you never notice until it's removed, then you feel relief.
      Many, many, pieces of audio gear get the tonality wrong on instruments.
      If you aren't a musician yourself, or used to hearing music played live and up close on a variety of instruments, you might never notice.
      It's the equivalent of hearing a piece of music played a little off-key. If that's what you're used to, it sounds normal. However, if you hear it played in-key, it just 'sounds right'. More natural sounding.
      Hope that helps. : )

    Something like this interest me just from a simplicity standpoint. The biggest issue I have with my separates is the space required and all of the cabling.

    • @ChrisMag100

      Follow-up. I've spoken to the distributor about getting a demo of the Kula. 2 issues which are steering me away - the DAC module lacks a coax input, whereas the Tambaqui includes coax and i2s in addition to USB/AES/optical. Secondly - no preamp output on the Kula. This seems like an oversight but I suspect it's to prevent people from buying the Kula in lieu of the Makua preamp which is close to the same price. I think I'm going to demo the Tambaqui instead.

      @@ChrisMag100 Very interesting, thanks for the reply. I asked because I also own Sopra 2's and I think this would be an excellent match. The Kula will drive them no problem. I also echoed your original sentiments exactly... the simplicity of having a compact, all in one device with high end components. I'm also of the belief that the less a signal has to travel, the better. This eliminates the need for a pre-amp, DAC, etc. I'd also be doing home theater, so having this powering the two mains for the processor is huge. Personally, I don't see myself upgrading to anything more demanding than the Sopras, so I'm looking for a demo myself. I get what you're saying though, it's a shame they didn't consider that.
