  • The Brown Bears jumped to a 6-0 lead and held off the 13th-ranked Princeton Tigers to take a 13-12 conference win Saturday afternoon in front of more than 1,000 fans at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
    Spencer Hughes and Aidan McLane struck for consecutive goals to give the Bears a 2-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.
    After three big saves from Connor Theriault (14 saves), Hughes added his second of the afternoon to make it 3-0 with 2:54 remaining in the opening frame.
    Ben Locke took over to start the second quarter and tallied three straight goals to push Brown's lead to 6-0. Hughes assisted on Locke's first goal and Marcus Wertheim assisted on Locke's third of the game.
    Hughes capped the hat trick with a man-up goal with 5:31 remaining to re-claim a five-goal lead at 7-2.
    Ben Scandone isolated a Princeton defender and wired a shot past Princeton's Michael Gianforcaro with 10:30 remaining to make it 12-9 Bears.
    Wertheim fought through traffic in front and beat Gianforcaro with 2:24 remaining to make it 13-12 Bears with his first goal of the afternoon.
    Cave intercepted a Nate Kabiri pass with 1:55 remaining to end the Princeton threat, and a Brown timeout with 1:13 remaining gave Brown possession with a one-goal lead. Cave finished the game with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
    Theriault turned aside a last-second effort from Kabiri and Tyler Blackburn found the loose ball to seal the conference win for the Bears.
