  • Last Friday we had this ol' Western Star on the dyno to make sure it was in tip top shape for a sled pull event Saturday. We found a bad injector and stayed late to fix it, but at the end of the day it was running great.

That truck's ready to go to work! Hell, I'd be happy w/1650 to the ground. Couldn't imagine 2200🤔😥

I just built that engine a few months ago for the owner. Seems to run pretty decent.

that is amazing is that how that truck is always tuned or was that just for pulling? the torque is more impressive to me than the hp thats what gets you efficiency in a semi i believe gotta have big torque and man did those numbers jump the lower the rpm got!

Awesome! So, how long will the head and head gasket last? My friend has some trucks with c15 engines turned up close to this level. With conservative driving they seems to constantly crack a head or head gasket. Pulling Empty one way and loader at 85k -86k on way back for 130 miles each way. Owner operator and mechanic driving. Not fleet. Fun to drive. Lots of money to fix. Just now Switched from pdi big boss turbo to a switchblade. Other truck has acert twin turbos. Acert has lowered compression to help with head cracking and head gasket. Pittsburg box truck. Running on level 1 most of time. 3 sometimes when empty.

Why does injector seats warp or don’t seat correctly with injector? Bought a new 3406 head and the injector seats didn’t seal

Heavy hauling Idaho send that head to a machine shop to be checked as with any new head dont assume new is good

Adam Theede lol ya 9months and 50k later. Cat motors are great till you rebuild. Junk, I own a extremely expensive paper weight.

@@yeahok115sure that's BS my friend, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles but it sounds to me like you need a good Cat man that knows what he's doing. My 7cz C-16 has over 2 million miles on it and is just on it's second overhaul, first one was just over 1.1 million and the second one was right at the 2 million mark. Lost about 200k on the overhaul compared to the original engine but I'm definitely not complaining about 900k on a inframe, Cat is the best on-highway engine ever made IMO and I have owned them all in my 32+ years in trucking.

john stranahan thank you for the advice. I agree cats are the best highway engine in original factory forum. My first 3406e had 1.3million on it and was all original. I love that truck. But it seems as soon as we crack them open it’s just a down hill spiral from them. Cat reman quality just isn’t there anymore. I think there is too many shade tree mechanics work on them and cat dealers prices are way to high for the work they perform. I will always love cat motors but I learned a valuable lesson. DONT BUY CAT REMAN PARTS unless you fork out the money and have cat perform the work. It seems the aftermarket parts are cheaper and they are new. This truck has bankrupt me, I just shut the truck down, and took a job with a local trucking company as lead heavy haul driver. If anyone wants to buy a 99 KW T800 wide noise heavy spec truck with 53k in receipts of repairs this year let me know!!

@@Jstran69 we have an N14 cummins celect that has 3 rebuilds and close to 4 million on that block and still going strong i would challenge you on that! And the truck hauls heavy!

Unfortunately that's not going to happen with your ISX, you're going to need a Cat for that 🙀
