We continue to rely on human judgment in the ring (one referee) and outside the ring (three judges). I would like to understand why the referee did not stop the fight in the 8th round fury. Wasn't punching or responded to Usyk punches? This is why some sections are corrupt in boxing.
Not quite sure what u analysing. Ever sern a fight where d referee stepped in without d knocked out fighter hitting d canvas, and not for d purpose of stopping d fight ? Then doing a countdown? The fight ended in a knock out. At least Ussyk still won. Invesd ref.
@FootballFanDave First boxing fight... that's ironic. Clearly it's you who don't know the rules. All association boxing commissions unanimously outruled standing 8 counts from professional boxing in 1998. Standing 8 counts are for the amateur circuit, when a shot 'snaps a fighters head back' the ref will issue a standing count. Professional referees aren't supposed to issue standing 8 counts. It happens from time to time, from BAD referees. Furthermore, even if you were allowed a standing 8 count in the pro ranks... This wouldn't have been an instance or a standing count. Furys back hit the turnbuckle and he was entirely off his feet. Therefore it's a knockdownn. Usyk went straight to the neutral corner, and the ref stopped the count to instruct Usyk to go to his corner instead! Why? That's what neutral corners are for. Shocking refereeing. He even assisted Fury in raising his gloves. I wondered why they got the same referee from Pacquiao vs Horn...
@robbieburtt5942 not disagreeing with a word of what you said there regarding the terminology. But, my words are still correct. If the boxer is held up by the ropes, he is issued an 8 count whilst remaining standing. It is, however, as you've pointed out, considered a knockdown. The referee was correct to issue the count, and should have let Usyk remain in the neutral corner. The shocking part of the refereeing was taking so long to initiate the count, the ropes kept Fury up a long time before that last shot.

Yes, plenty. If the ropes keep the fighter up, he is issued a standing eight count.
First boxing fight?
Tell you have a massive biased opinion and dislike fury without actually telling us.
It’s called a standing 8 count 🙄
