I bought a DDJ-1000 about a month ago, and it's just the best thing ever. Playing around with four decks, and having all the effects at my fingertips is just so much fun! What I love the most, though, is the minimalist visuals on the decks themselves. I just have to glance at my screen to select my next track, and the small waveforms and color-coded cue points are more than enough to play all night. It's so immersive and you're absolutely right when you say it makes you a better DJ
Part of me wants to learn the DJ tricks while another part of me wants Andrew to just keep the music going and is disappointed when he stops to teach. LOL
Great Vid Andrew. If any of you sitting on the fence re doing the course, just jump in, you will not be disappointed! Thorough, professional and put together with Andrew's passion for music and djing.
Don't even have a controller, have been goofing around in rekordbox free version. I'm already hooked. Of course I've been relying on synch and such, but am quickly adapting. Only been at it a day, and I've kind of just been looping "Rump (Extended Mix)", "Red Alert (The Cube Guys Remix)" and "C'Est La Vibe (Extended Mix)" repeatedly, figuring out different/best ways to overlay or combine them. Been having a blast with just those three songs, can only imagine how much more interesting it will be with my full collection, and possibly an entry level controller like maybe a DDJ-FLX4.
The second example on this video hits SO HARD, and then the third example hit harder. It's seriously making me want to pick up a 4 deck. There's so much more room for creativity. Eye balling the DDJ-FLX10.
Honestly, I liked the video after a few seconds and paused it then at 2:47 to start (once again) looking for an 4-Deck-Controller. That was yesterday. Now I'll watch the rest of the video knowing a Reloop Mixon 4 will arrive in a few days. For just 300€ I finally found a controller, that ticks all my boxes and possible even more than that. You're inspiring. Thanks!
man i had a sick club grade system 1210s mk3 i had 2 cdjs 450s few year back but . i might look at in future ... but i have just a reloop controller for £ 30 .. and its well better i hated haveing to stand . sat in my pc chair with this is far better . am loveing the mixbilty with out deadicating half a room to vynl and wires
I use a "stoplight" system in my out points (memory cues). Red: be out here; orange: 32 before and yellow: 64 beats before red. My hot cues are to jump in the track and are also laid out similar. 1 is at the breakdown: 32 before and 64 before. Some other tracks require different setups of course, but the above is my default workflow. After practice I also go back to change in and out points to do better. It allows me to mix tracks without really knowing them yet. I also place multiple out point sets for letting a track play out or cutting it short.
Dear Ian, I really liked the way you separate your hotcues. I'm trying to do the same thing, because my best ideas coming while I am on a gig and I love to do mashups on the fly. But doing them on the fly without knowing a lot of the track could give a bad result, so, do you think your hotcues positioning system could help me doing this, easily, on the fly??? Thanks in advance for your response
@@falcodj yes. Doing this combined with the knowledge key of the tracks etc you're playing helps to be more spontaneous as you know there's a big change it will work instead of working blindly.
@@IanDeVos Okay. There's no problem for the key, managing harmonic mixing is what normally I do, but i will try to analyze and set the hot cue up for these live moments, trying to be more fluid with no anxiety! But let me understand better the thing, I have to set up the HC breakdown , The HC 32bars before breakdown, and another at 64bars before breakdown, right? Obioviusly it will depends on the track like you told but generally is this?
With dnb I'll process all of my tracks with cues on my normal mix in and out points so that I can either quickly skip to exactly where I need to be to be able to mix in, since sometimes when using 4 decks you might at times have only a single phrase to mix the song in, or to be able to just glance at the waveform and know exactly how long I've got to pick a song. Mixing dnb fast with 4 decks is genuinely so much fun but you have to prep your tunes to get the blends you want everytime.
Honestly I really like your videos! I've been watching them from time to time and enthusiasm is really contagious :D I am considering to buy a 4 Deck Controller since I am using my Traktor Kontrol S2 since 8 years now. Got the opportunity in clubs and on some smaller festivals to have a third deck and mate this exponentially makes mixing soo much more fun! Seeing your video right now I am definitely getting a new controller in the near future! Still not quite sure going for Traktor Kontrol S4 or the Pioneer DDJ 1000
I love my DDJ1000, personally, I think it is the best piece of Pioneer gear out. Between hot cues and beat jump, I feel like I have total control of the music. The CDJ3000 may match the ability to have that control, but I haven't had the opportunity to give them a try. I think Pioneer needs to find more ways to merge the workflows of controllers (1000) and CDJs, again the 3000s appear to have done some of that, but they could go further. Thanks for you videos. I look forward to Monday moring every week.
Wicked mate you make it look easy I do get a little bit confused using 4 decks with only two jog wheels and pressing the button to flick in between and there is a little bit of an issue wih the beat adjusting but a great demonstration I find that all that preparation is a bit of a kill for me and takes the fun out of mixing I can’t fill the vibe if I’m mixing to que points a computer mite as well do it but that’s just my opinion
Personally im playing the harder styles of techno, more like rave techno. I also use the pioneer ddj1000. You help me so much teaching the art of djing. I want to thank you for al the videos you made!!! ❤
Do you bypass your A/B Crossfader all together? Or can you assign the tracks to just A? I use the DDJ-800, I was wondering how you have it slid all the way to A without it doing anything.
This section was very interesting and insightful. I can feel your personal touch in every step. It is not only about technical perfection (lets leave it to robots) but about soul and personality. I feel encouraged to experiment with more decks :)
This video was good for a noob to learn from, as a noob iv been playing around with 4 channels but on a rolando dj 202 (hard work it is) ... Iv been doing the same thing with 3 channels.. But with channel 4 iv been using a vts plugin anolog lab with a mpk mini 2 where you can play whatever instrument you like over 1,2,3.
Wow I never knew about dual decks 😮that’s a great way 2 learn before spending out on another player ..I use XDJ-XZ so thinking about getting a XDJ 1000 player
To be honest I thought you were going to Connect your CDJ’s to the DDJ 1000. Andrew your very smooth on the 4 deck controller. I’ve messed with acapellas on the other layered decks. It may simplify things to actually use CDJs on channels 3 & 4 than the layered combination channels of the controller.
Good idea but the videos more for beginners and I doubt they can afford so much gear haha - My videos are all about making DJing accessible and also more approachable :)
I find it a bit hard to mix well with dual layers due to you cant just throw a look at the screen and easily see where you are on the layer below. Well you can, but not the same with the grid vs not grid. Maybe its something I just need to get used to? I def think a 3rd deck for example is as its own is easier than dual layers.
I prefer screens by a long shot! I prefer club gear otherwise the XDJXZ or DDJ1000 are both up there IMO - the jog-wheels on the XDJRX2 feel a little small -- bit still a great standalone :)
