- Rosie McClelland (17) became a global superstar at just 5 years-old, appearing on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ after a video of her and her cousin performing ‘Super Bass’ by Nicki Minaj went viral. 12 years later Rosie is a successful social media star with millions of followers. But earlier this year, one of her videos went viral for all the wrong reasons. After opening up about failing her maths and science GCSEs, Rosie became the victim of online bullying. She joins us in the studio today alongside her mum Danielle to bravely talk about her ordeal for the first time.

I had a second cousin who wasn’t at all academic, passed next to no exams. However, he can build almost anything, and is really talented when it comes to that. Different people excel in different ways, she doesn’t deserve this.
completely agree
did ur cousin go to greece for 2 weeks instead of revising?

People only mocking Rosie because she’s got a big following. It’s horrible, people fail maths & English all the time & you can easily retake them at college/6th form. All these people making this nasty videos , they wouldn’t like if someone picked on them or made videos about them if they fail their GCSE’s
Exactly this! Ive got maybe one gcse, yet im in uni
I honestly agree. Watching Rosie share her story about her being bullied is really inspiring. I always failed maths since i was a kid till high school(I don't study maths now but in my uni course class i have to take it's require counting) I fail maths all the time when i was in junior high and senior high and i used to got made fun of tbh by half of boys from my class before. and yes i agree with you they who make fun of Rosie are just insecure they also actually fail too but they don't want to admit because it'll hurt their pride.
Well, the problem is she is a public figure and the people getting onto her aren’t so I mean when you make your life public that’s your fault
tbf she was paid by one of the exam boards to advertise their textbooks and then failed so not a good look
@@taylorm1997 her family made her life public she was literally a kid when she got fans
As someone who failed her math and science , i think its very brave she posted her results to help others
Maths and science are the hardest subjects to pass. It isn't the end of the world if she failed. The people who bullied her were probably sad and had nothing better to do.
Half of the bullies are younger than her as well
I had a U in math. Still got into college redid my math and english exams
@@catrinnowaczek9692 me too! i got onto level 3 health and social care because i passed english, but im also doing gcse maths on the side bc i got a 3

I feel so sorry for her! Myself and many people I know were disappointed with our results too. She did so well and she’s got strengths in so many different areas.
I watched that video when she posted it and I appreciated that Rosie was "real" and not putting up a fake persona and omitting the truth like most young people do. Stay real Rosie. It will make you stronger.
Ellen should pay for her resits
I failed my maths GCSE at school, retook it TWICE, and still failed! I waited until I was 24 to go to university and 12 years after leaving school, I'm now working in my dream job! Your GCSE's do not & will not define what happens to you for the rest of your life. Keep working hard and chasing your dreams and ignore those who wish to put you down.
Rosie is a great wee inspiration for her peers. She is brave for sharing her results online and staying strong despite the hate. I believe if she wasn't famous it wouldn't be a big deal but because shes successful people want to tear her apart. She has amazing collaborations and brand endorsements that any girl her age would envy. All those bullies are probably following you and jealous of the amazing opportunities you are going to experience in the future. Keep going gal, not everything in life is about academics
Sending Rosie so so much love and support I’m so sorry for everything she’s gone through 💕💕💕🩷🩷🩷
She has already achieved so much, my GCSEs didnt go to plan to get to my next stage and it was the worst thing ever, and i didnt have a backup plan. She will be successful no matter what.
Also the fact that Rosie was so sad when she failed shows she cares about her results
She didn’t care enough to study though. She just wanted to do minimal effort and pass. That’s not how life works, you would hope from this she would learn that but it seems she hasn’t
@@Bringon-dw8dx yeah ig , it’s definitely worth studying because once I got my results and they were good I felt proud that I had studied hard to pass
@misslbboat1110 and yet she came in TV and didn’t tell anyone that was the reason. Interesting. It misleads young people
Rosie is a superstar Rosie don’t let those haters get to you sometimes haters are jealous of others Rosie you do you girl I watch Rosie’s videos and I have supported her since the beginning of her UA-cam channel Rosie is such an amazing person I hope I can meet Rosie one day I will always be here to support Rosie and her family and friends keep it up Rosie keep smiling and keep shining I love you Rosie 💖💖🌟🌟
@Rosie McCelland
The part of the story that they left out is that she had been sponsored by a company that sells GCSE exam booklets and she had talked about how great they were, etc. NOT a reason to bully her, but I think people are triggered when obviously disingenuous influencers disingenuously sell them stuff that doesn't even work for themselves. Newsflash, they get PAID to do so and you need to do your own research before you buy something that an influencer is pushing. She is also still a kid. Good for her for finding a different route into college.
What a classy young lady Rosie is. So well spoken and beautiful. Love to see it!
@DannyXox01 And she is still only 17 years old as of right now. Still a teen, many many years ahead. Well spoken, humble and no bragging rights at her young age.
I got an F in maths. I just never 'got it' but I have a degree in journalism because I'm good at writing. We all have our strengths.
Perfect presenters combo. This feels like the new Holly and Phil for me ❤ Cat was an excellent choice 🎉
who is the new male presenter? i dont think i recognise him
@@woolvesvCraig Doyle
I think it'll be Ben and cat as the permanent presenters.
I loved Holly and Phil. 😢
I left school with no English and maths. But there are many other opportunities to get these. That with some hard work I have now got both. These people who bully online are cowards and don’t deserve the attention they get.
However whilst the law and online companies allow online bullying to happen nothing will change.
I was lucky enough to pass my ENGLISH LANGUAGE and my maths while doing A-LEVELS, a lot of places allow u to redo it even if y didbt originally do the exams their, like me, so it's not too bad imo.
@@esme7997 they put you on a level 1 course if you don't pass English and maths. If you have one and not the other you're put onto level 2. It's so you have a better chance of passing that they have you do a less intense course.
A similar event happened to me one time when I was mocked in front of the boys after being ranked out of a MATHCOUNTS competition in 2012. However, one of the girls knew about it and gave me a hand instead of mocking me. This relationship has lasted for more than 11 years. She has kept me alive ever since.
I remember when the bullying video was viral
it was sad cause she truly tried her best 😢❤❤
i hope all whose bullied rosie are happy with their choices, heaven doesnt have a spot in it for you.. Rosie, don't listen to the haters you are beautiful as you are! As you've said numbers don't define you!

Haters are just jealous because rosie has got a big following online and she’s loved by millions of people, rosie keep being you, ur amazing the way u are don’t let the haters bring u down to their level x
The fact that someone would be jealous of a big following is bizarre to me. I'd rather have a maths and science gcse😂
Cyber bullying seems to be the worst it’s ever been - trolling seems to be so high … what do people get out of being mean?
She is the most sweetest soul she care for eveyone even those who are mean to her
I hear you SISTA.. I am so not academic but I am still clever.. and that’s you too Rosie ..there are some very broken /dysfunctional people who clearly have no space on social media.. I hope they can heal enough to become nicer people. Love you Rosie ♥️
The same people bullying her over that, are definitely the same people who also failed their own exams but because she’s famous and has money…..they’re jealous and insecure, and wanna use that as a reason to bully her. As for anyone who wants to say that she had it coming because she posted about it online, and she was sponsored by a revision guide….that wouldn’t have made a difference. You could be as student sponsored by any business that works with schools, and still not do the best….it happens, but to shame someone for it….so immature and pathetic.
Half of them haven't done gcses yet 😂
I would have loved to hear that someone who seemingly has it all could fall short as well when I was growing up. I remember failing a couple subjects in high school and I thought it was the end of the world and that I was beneath everyone else. I thought that was the end all. Let’s normalize picking ourselves up and trying again. It’s never too late to achieve success. That’s why I returned to college as an adult and tried again. I saw many people like me being visibly declaring their mishaps and failures and still had to drive to try again. I hope Rosie continues to use her platform to motivate people and I wish her success in the future.
BULLIED!! OVER EXAM RESULTS!! the world is a cruel plsce and you see how hard she works this is just sad man
The haters hating on Rosie just because she's well known is so dumb we all fail classes once, we can retake. Ignore the haters Rosie, you keep shining queen and Sophia as well ❤
Its disgusting the way rosie was bullied abt the maths results most of the people ik failed bless her
Most of the haters are people who are younger than her and havent sat their exams yet. Just because she revised and got sent revision guides to advertise doesnt mean she was guaranteed to pass- u can revise and still fail. But despite maths, science and business, Rosie did amazing in english, textiles and everything else she did x
She hardly passed her other subjects, she didn’t do amazing at all. People are making fun of her because she took a brand deal for revision books and then clearly didn’t use them. Don’t promote something you haven’t even tested

I failed English and maths first time re took them and many years later have a great job 👏 anyone who fails just try again
I don’t understand why people are so mean to each other, people find one flaw about people and immediately bash them for it
I was told by a teacher I don’t “test well on paper”. I could do advance science, including maths within that science. When taught in my own way, and allowed to be a hands on I excelled. But I did VERY BADLY on standardized testing because my brain just didn’t work that way.
A great mother and a great daughter
her mom is stunning wow
Grades don’t define who you are as a person, realistically speaking when going into try to get a job, they’re gonna ask about experience not grades
Thank you for Sharing your experience Rosie so sorry you had to go though that You are such a amazing person always dream big from Sarah Armstrong in sydney Australia xox ❤
That year that Rosie did gcse was apparently the hardest year x
Omw...I burst out laughing thinking of Cat Deeley, quieting a crowd😂❤😊
I know theres alot of people on the platform rosie got bullied on, and youve seen different trends and things that rosie has been the face of. One including her bullying others? Which wasnt necessarily true? And ofcourse shes learning from mistakes and etc. But at the same time i think that this is a good call to talk about anti-bullying week. Learn to be kind and exactly what rosies mom said, dont jump onto a trend where you can step back and think this isnt right and this is not nice. Treat people with kindness. You never know what people go through!
She is just the sweetest. God bless her❤
I'm glad I did my gcses in the years before Covid because I guess it would be difficult to access past papers now and to predict what will come up. Having had 2 years when exams were cancelled.
Another tip: Be careful and wise in the people you choose to surround yourself with. Those who surround themselves with negative people in their lives will become negative themselves over time esp. if that person's energy and negativity rubs off on them.
If there's a positive and negative person together-that can easily go both ways. Not always, but sometimes the negative person feeds off the positive person's energy and advice given to them. Other times, the negative person can bring the positive person down and that should never happen to anyone.
No matter what happens in anyone's life, it's impossible to be happy 24/7 and that's normal. We're not supposed to be happy 24/7, given we're not supposed to be depressed 24/7 either tho. Yes, it can be hard and tricky to do esp. when one is very, very shy, but do your best to surround yourself with positive people. To bully someone over test scores esp. a GCSE is really ridiculous b/c 1.) Half of them prob. don't live in the U.K. in the first place and 2.) How many of those particular individuals actually passed SATs or ACTs in the U.S.? if they're in the U.S.? Idk what it's called for other countries. For those being negative like that online, are they negative in real life too or are they a completely different person when they're not on technology? No matter what test it is, it's normal to pass and fail them no matter how big the test is/was. Rosie clarified how she only missed passing it by 8 marks and since I'm in the U.S. and don't fully understand all of U.K. terms tbh, does that mean she got 8 questions on the test wrong? Sorry idk how marks work in the U.K., but I don't mind learning about it though.
I can try and answer your question, i am not the best at explaining stuff though.
In a test paper theres a certain amount of questions and each question can be graded with different numbers. One question could be 8 marks, 4 questions could be 2 marks, or she could have got 8 questions wrong that were all worth 1 mark each. It always varies.
i dont really know how to explain it properly.
@@JustSophie2024 I think I sort of understand it. Thank you for at least trying to explain. An example: Let's say 1 of their tests is 8 questions, those questions could be 2 marks each right? I wonder if it depends on the subject too because it sounds like not each subject would necessarily have the same amount of questions on the tests themselves. Another example: Maybe an English test could say be 20 questions while maybe a Science test was only 10 questions. Sorry if that's completely wrong, but I'm hoping it's a semi-understanding of it. I do appreciate you for trying though.
School results are so stressful. I truly believe is what’s meant to be will be. And just trust the journey. Anything is possible 🙏
This year the GCSEs where away uk I collected mine and everyone was crying no one got what they expected it wasn’t fair and she was so brave doing what she did
Fair play to these fantastic women, well said!! Best of luck with your next chapter Rosie!! 👏🤩
She is sending a bad message to people. She didn’t revise, got bad grades and is saying that’s okay
@@Bringon-dw8dx I don't know anything about her revision schedule, it wasn't stated here. Some people revise a lot and do work hard but it doesn't come together for them or they have a bad day on exam day. The message of not giving up or still having hope and options outside school exams is good for people to hear. There are many avenues to success and happiness so not all is lost in life if school isn't going well! These are children!
@@DimitriVegasShmigg the second a young person looks up her channel on UA-cam it’s full of videos of her openly admitting she went on holidays and to parties instead of revising.
Good exam results give you options, without them you are forced down certain paths or hit career ceilings quicker. If you have good grades you have the options of both the jobs that didn’t need them AND the jobs that did. That should be what young people aspire too
@@Bringon-dw8dx Can't argue with that one, well said!
