To me Cover Songs feel way more like “stealing” the song vs sampling. But you can do cover songs without having to get clearance… it doesn’t make sense. The industry is so F’d up!
Well that's because with cover songs, you are only using the lyrics & melodies, not the actual recording. You're creating a whole new recording with your own vocals. Plus, all the $$ on the publishing side goes to the writers & publishers of the original song you're covering, not you.
Now that artists cannot make money at music really we can sample the hell out of whatever we want its difficult to get a judgement against someone who is making $0 doing something as a hobby.
Yeah people don't really come after you until you're making a certain amount of money off the song anyway. However, with all the new technology, it's easier to detect sampling. Also, even if they don't sue you, they can still send a takedown notice and get your stuff taken down from the DSPs!
Thank you ma’am and sir for your contributions and knowledge base. I’m from the 90’s era of music, information and platform like this wasn’t so easily accessible. I rarely sampled mostly just tried to recreate the familiarity of sample. Still didn’t make my bread tho…..Sandy and Sony got that. Can we go after old money now ?
Hey hey, im glad i came across your channel. A quick question.... I was on an album back in 97 that made it to 28 on the top 100 billboard chart. Back then people were happy just to come out. I never received anything, & everything was verbal. Can i still find a way to get my royalties, or am i out of luck? I havent been able to find a good answer yet. The song was "Situations" on an album by Brotha Lynch Hung, & the album name is "Loaded." Thank u in advance for your answer.
Repetition is key for learning though! So even if you know stuff, it's good to hear it again and again. It's even helpful for myself to talk about concepts I already know. But I will try my best to keep uploading!
@@tyniacoats You're also where I send my artist for clarification if its something they need help understanding. Texas is rooting for you, I know its a busy field but intent is all that matters. Thank you for your hard work!
Great discussion T 💪🙏💪
