  • On June 22, 2024 the ham radio national field day event took place throughout the United States where over 40,000 ham radio operators participated.
This flight takes us from Tacoma Narrows airport in Gig Harbor, Washington to Mount Adams.
Throughout the flight, we conducted ham radio field day operations from the airplane. Those contacts are contained in this video.
The video concludes with an overflight of the crater of Mount Saint Helens before landing at Chehalis Centralia airport.

Thank you for being my first ever field day contact. Followed your flight with Flight radar 24, we were approximately 34 miles apart. Enjoyed the video. 73 W3LLS

Hello. The airplane is a Piper Cherokee 140. It’s been a lot of fun working ham radio during flights.

I was in Seattle last week for a business trip, and for the first time in my 30+ years in the hobby, my radio stopped scanning on 146.52. I was able to hear you, just barely, on my HT from a hotel just outside SEA. I think I measured about 95 miles from my location when you were at Mt. Adams. My callback to you was unsuccessful (you *might* have caught a partial), but impressed that I heard you at all. Great operation, and even better views! de KD4ACG

Hello. Sorry we were unable to connect. Sometimes when I’m flying lower it’s tough to work HT stations. Best 73.

I think we made contact, but couldn’t confirm it, I’ll watch the whole video to see. I was 25W mobile near Boardman, OR.

We did, about the 50-51 minute mark, I had you at about a 4x3. For field day I was 1 C OR at that time, 25w mobile on I-84 near OR74 interchange and Willow Creek crossing. WB7VPI

Nice! You were my only actual Field Day contact. I was traveling from Portland to Lakeside, MT. I did have 1 other QSO with a new Technician when I was going through Post Falls, ID. He was on Spokane Peak, was getting ready to go for a hike, and had no idea it was Field Day, or he could possibly be doing a SOTA activation. That said, I was his first contact after getting licensed!!! Between these 2 contacts, absolutely made my day!
