with the barriers and little black bits that help them stick to the track, I think you can put the red and white stripy borders on top of the black bits so there isn't a gap between the two, I haven't tried this myself but I've sort-of seen photos of it
I use MagicARC software for lap timing. There is not a lot of other third party software in the market currently that will interface with Scalextric ARC systems.

How big is the track, width and length
how expensive was the track? with all the barriers and runoff bits
Too be honest, as this has been a track build spanning 6 months, I am unsure how much was invested. Will say that it wasn't cheap 🙂
