I'm proud to say Alasdair taught my self and others at Milton Bridge, Edinburgh in 1996. Many thanks Alasdair for your help in the past you have been such a great help.
Kept the pipes going and still love it. Entering two competitions this year in Germany and dont know how ill do but its always good to try.

Something about Alasdair's confidence, timing and sound that makes him stand out over many others, leaves one clinging on to every note.

Oh to possess just a fraction of the self confidence and talent of that man. Such a loss in so many respects.

Yet to hear an MSR that sounds as good as his. Forget strathspey and reel - there is something most beautiful about the way he plays a 2/4. He plays with that heavy left foot yet the tune is rounded?!
    RIP Sir.

The accent is always on the left foot. It's not rounded its classic question/ answer..

Hi. My father Dr Bruce Thomson (recently deceased) wrote Tommy MacDonald of Barguillean - would really appreciate it if you could include that in the title -these things often get forgotten. Thanks

Hi. Sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of this tune as I was a piper with Shotts when we played it in our medley. I never met your father but he certainly wrote a classic March. Personally it was a breath of fresh air to play a tune in that style to open a medley. His tune lives on. I play it often. RIP Dr Thomson x

Superb tune ! I remember you father - The Surrey Pipe Band played some of his tunes, including the one he composed for our band. I also competed against him in the early 2000s at Harrow School where we had to play a composition of our own: Dr. Bruce came first and I, second: the judge was Roddy (R.S.) MacDonald. The tune "Tommy MacDonald of Barguillean" can also be found in the Scots Guards Collection Bk. 3.
