    Of all the UA-cam videos I’ve seen and UA-camrs I’ve come across, I follow Wes because of his high definition videos he posts. It doesn’t matter if it’s the desert, the mountains, or bushwhacking old logging roads, the video quality of his posts are top notch! Keep em coming Wes! 👍

    Love your videos, high quality, great commentary and you are always gracious and authentic, very good call on the Bridge, I was saying to myself "DONT DO IT MAN".

      I'm glad you enjoyed this one. It would have been cool to cross that thing, but I still feel anxious thinking about just standing up there on the end.

    Oh man Wes, I've had some adventure runs and got caught in some sketchy spots, but that bridge was just terrifying! I was nervous for you. So glad that you turned around there.
    Thanks for sharing, even the suckfest adventures are neat to watch from a distance.

    Glad you made it home.

      It is so fun to take a theoretical route into reality, but I have to be prepared for the unexpected. Most of this bushwhacking was expected (at least some level of it), but what I didn't focus too much on were some later roads that were decommissioned and forced me again cross-country. That caused me to to detour, I was sick of pressing through grass and brush and other crap. :)

    Oh I know the feeling. Its very annoying when you hit long patches of overgrown paths. Still it gives you a bit of the dangerous feeling of getting lost, and some primal instincts kick in. Like that bridge. I have many times wondered if I can get down a slope or not for example. Hanging on to branches. Ive learned by age to become less proud of my original plan, and give up for a safer longer route around. Like you did with the bridge. I would hav done the same. But after such an ordeal, it always leaves me satisfied in another way than a normal training run. Such a great video. I felt that.

      Thank you Stig! Great comments, thank you, you're absolutely right. A trick I've learned following decommissioned roads is to walk alongside the road in the forest, it is often WAY easier. When this was done I felt good about having made it through that worst spot. It was good mental training. I wasn't enjoying it, it felt like it wasn't ending, but I had no choice except to press on. No calling it quits in the middle of the forest.

    Epic adventure! I was voting for you to cross the river via the logs, but better safe than sorry. Great video Wes!

      I worried very much that aside from slipping or whatever, that the large spikes nailed into the top of those logs would trip me. I still shudder thinking about standing up there. Glad I crossed below.

    I know I would be doing to same thing you did with the bridge, but dang, it looks so pretty with the view of the river below! Crazy to think that it was once used as a bridge with heavy equipment. Awesome video, Wes!

      I also marveled that large trucks loaded with trees probably crossed that bridge. And the span was long too! It was a tough day but not many people in recent memory have been there, in a way it feels special to have visited that place.

    Wow, well done Wes! Seems like this was a quite an adventure :) This reminds of the time I ran in the woods close to where I live and I took a wrong turn and had to go through a lot of thick bushes and woods for about 30 min until I got back to the trail and then later when I came home I had about 20 ticks on my body 🤢 Thanks for sharing as always.

    What an incredible journey. It was fascinating to see your thought process as you debated crossing over the bridge. Glad you followed your instinct and chose another way, instead of letting the camera pressure you into doing something you weren't happy with. I was pretty scared watching it, and if it looks scary on video then it must have been even worse in the moment!

    Impressive. I liked the safety consciousness, particularly at the bridge. I recently violated my sense of safety at the Volcanic 50, but got away with it.

    • @wplate
      @wplate  2 роки тому

      Volcanic is a great race, what happened for you there? While measured risks are a part of the game, safety has to be a consideration. And it isn't always the things we expect to go wrong that upend us.

    This one is a bit more my speed. Nice little adventure in a close area. No freaking mountains. I'm with u tho, that "bridge" was a bit on the sketchy side. I saw ur map, I also did a map for the county we live in but never got to finish it. I used diffrent colors for bike...walk....run ...or a path I was planning to take. But, surprise, we had a kid. Dr said we would never have one but.... I WAS a champion triathlete in mountain bike division for 3 years now trying to come back. Might be time to slow down the pace and go longer. I get alot of inspiration from ur channel so keep it up please.

    If I did this I’d be screaming every two seconds from bugs, ticks, and poison ivy/oak lol! It would be so hard to spot those things in that dense brush, hopefully you didn’t encounter much of that! Glad you didn’t cross that bridge, my heart was racing that part. The wood looked too far gone to be safe!

    • @wplate
      @wplate  2 роки тому

      The Devil's Club was all over, and some blackberries too, but they were the most aggressive. There were flies, but not terrible bugs. We don't have poison oak or ivy to worry about, though nettles can be bad here.
      A couple years ago I created a route that, in order to avoid a long unsafe highway run, had a short bushwhack section to join old logging roads. I found there a bridge just like this one, and I avoided actually crossing it for the same reasons. You can see it in my Port to Pilchuck video ua-cam.com/video/YiaUQ9UWdpI/v-deo.html
