Graham Linehan has been described by many as the world's most canceled man due to his gender critical views. The writer of the IT Crowd, Brass Eye, Black Books and Father Ted has been a lone figure in what he considers a war against the forcing of children into sexual changes through social contagion. Listen to what canceling has done to him, and how he's come out stronger.

Graham has had so much hate from all sides. On reflection (I'm a GC feministy type) I think he's done more good than not. I'm sad that he's not had the backup from his friends in the business - even when they agree with him! I believe that he has the best interests of women and children at his heart. Whether he goes about things the right way, I'm not sure, but he deserves support for what he's done.

But if you think about it from a students point of view, they are sat at college reading and analysing studies that show them that gender is a spectrum, that gender and sex while linked can be totally opposite and that socially constructed categories shouldn’t mean people get treated differently and then they have to hear from people who are ignorant of these studies and arguments but who deem to tell them about the subject they are learning about. It must be so frustrating. Imagine doing it to a psychologist, geography or history student.

@@kimwexlersponytail well, when the trans and gender stuff first came to my consciousness it was maybe about 2012. It’s was through some very niche and religious group in the US and they were degrading, attacking and attempting the shutting down of gender neutral spaces to accommodate trans. The backlash was then responded to with what we have now were trans people are being offered access to sex specific spaces. So if that religiously influenced shit down from back then hadn’t happened maybe we’d all just be getting on with it.

I’ve come to the realisation that gender is a social construct. I’m doesn’t exist. Only sex counts, and there are male and female, only. Anything else is simply an expression or identify.

Kudos Andrew! Well done for getting Graham on. Love how your curiosity means you will listen to such a variety of opinion to get the full facts. I had given up that anyone vaguely to the left would even talk about the issues Graham covers and which are so important for women, children’s safeguarding, same-sex attracted people and their freedom of association and free speech. I was diagnosed as genderqueer by the top specialist in my country back around 2010ish and it was all based on out of date stereotypes. As a biology graduate, I couldn't help but see through it even though socially it would have been good for me at the time. I made a prediction then that the model would eventually collapse under its own weight because it complicates rather than simplifies reality by applying fixed labels to sets of changing personality traits. Years later I'm happy with my decision but quite worried about the harm being done.
And I discovered that the leading research before my time predicted exactly that outcome for 95% of people with gender dysphoria (the other 5% were had clearly got different pathology too) but this research got suppressed quite purposefully even though the main researcher was later vindicated.

@@pollyparrot9447 Yeah well the thing is, I grew up without TV and kind of old fashioned but not particularly gender conforming in ways but my attitude was always "if I am a man and I like to sew and don't like competitive sports, then the people who say men don't sew are factually incorrect." And then I grew up and heard trans voices describing similar experiences but with a different explanation. So I had to see if perhaps they were correct. And interestingly, the more I did, the more I experienced gender dysphoria and began dreaming of how it would be if I transitioned. I did realise that I would then just be a non-conformist female though. And I have a general rule of thumb that people look best as nature made them, so tanned girls look great tanned and pale girls look great pale etc. Same applied. But I can totally see how that could have been stirred up into a decision to transition.

If he wants to be an actor, go act and stop with the vitriol (I thought he was great in Victoria; don't know why he turned to politics and ruined his career). If he wants to be a pundit then learn how to conduct yourself appropriately. Simple. Thats what the rest of us non-media/TV/film people have to do.

Gay marriage didn’t put anyone’s lives at risk. That comparison makes zero sense. Try watching some de-trans videos and then ask yourself if people are overreacting to the damage it’s doing to children, teens & young adults.

Gay people were not asking anyone else to do anything. They wanted rights to marry. Trans people want the right to make others do things and some will get violently angry if you don't.
