Throughout the years, nobody EVER asked Marcelo to quit the National Team, but even Neymar received this kind of criticism. As I said, you have your points, but you are trying to make them more relevant than they in fact are to compare Marcelo, one of the greatest LBs to ever play the game, to some mediocre player like Ashley Cole, who has his merits, but would never come close to what Marcelo represents to football.
