a riff so good, they had no choice but to use it twice
@Hexxengale Curse Of The Wind we're talking about the same guys, you're listening to Fenriz from Darkthrone rn
@@user-qr7sl8ey1r Fenriz acually does some of the vocals on this version
This came out the same year as Panzerfaust too
One of the best riffs ever produced
Aye, it's right up there with the greatest metal riffs ever set down...some cool contemporary/mediaeval folk mashup things going on here...and heavy as balls too!
Storm's Quintessence!
The right Quintessence
Hail fenriz hail nocturno culto
@@susanneskadetsinnverdilsek5901 and Satyr?
@@susanneskadetsinnverdilsek5901 No todos los riffs de Darkthrone los creo Nocturno, Fenriz tuvo mucho que ver
Satyr’s silky voice under the epic vocals of Fenriz, bravo
It would be extremely difficult, I would think, to make a coherent black metal song that was constructed using musical motifs from Scandinavian folk music. But my oh my they really nailed it. The two styles mesh so completely, so perfectly, so sublimely....never gets old....
The version here is clean; the one on Panzerfaust raw and paint-stripping. Both are brilliant.
Early Satyricon contains a lot of folk music riffs, even Absurd and many more bands do it regularly.
Amazing angelical backing vocals by Karo Rueslåtten. Die schönste Stimme, die ich in meinem Leben gehört habe.
Endless love for Kari Rueslåtten.
240p, as Odin intended
Quite possibly the best riff ever
Hades fenriz has a great knack for coming up with those
Especially after listening to St Vitus.. Search for their track "I Bleed Black" and you'll see.. ;)
It's my favorite caveman riff
There's no such a thing as "the best riff ever":) Too many of them.
@Stigmatix666 Thanks man, I heard about that band, but was too young for it, now I get it
The best song. Fenriz genius
This is beautiful
En 2023 y seguimos privados , con esta obra maestra.
the song that i've listened most since 2005
The moon, the mountains and a voice far from this time is all we would like to have
Do you have relation with Fenriz?
For the people wondering what came first, Quintessence or Noregsgard: Storm released 'Nordavind' in February 1995, whereas Darkthrone released 'Panzerfaust' in June of that same year. That still doesn't explain if this was written as a Darkthrone riff and also used for Storm, or the other way around. All I know is that Storm is the first to unleash this epic riff upon the world. My personal preference lies with Quintessence, since I agree with Fenriz: folk and metal do not mix well most of the time. Though Isengard's 'Høstmørke' is a pretty decent album and a rare exception in this regard, in part due to the rawness of the recording, the folk-oriented songs on that album still can't hold a candle to the 2 epic black metal songs that close off the album, especially Thornspawn Chalice.
The debate is highly annoying. Who really cares. The songs aren't even comparable to begin with. Personally, I've grown to strongly dislike most 'real' black metal as I've aged. Definitely prefer something with either soft choruses to break up the screaming or folk metal like this. Of course, that is just my opinion which you obviously will disagree with.
hey, hold up guys, the man is allowed to have an opinion...take away people's right to have an opinion and what happens to UA-cam? 99.9% of all comments go out the window. Personally I think a riff of this magnitude sounds better (slightly) in the lo-fi carnage of 'Quintessence', but there's no denying this treatment of the tune is pretty special as well. Black metal bands doing albums with a definite folk influence are fine by me - just listen to Ulver's magnificent first effort. It's all about the soul you put into it....and the 'atmosphere' conjured up by Satyr and Fenriz here is damn intoxicating. In reality, a genre of music which has so much antipathy to Christianity is a logical fit with a genre that privileges the pagan, pre-Christian folk roots of Norse culture.....and it is always fascinating to listen to music at such a remove from the music of my, much newer and predominantly Anglo-Saxon culture (I am from Australia, so obviously we have no experience of longships and Vikings)...
One band that mix folk and metal really well is månegarm from sweden, just a suggestion.
St Vitus' "I Bleed Black" came first. This Darkthrone/Storm song is an obvious tribute!

Awesome song. For me, the best of Nordavind. But the whole album is a masterpiece as well. Satyr rules...

Everyone hailing Fenriz when Storm was originally an idea by Satyr of Satyricon.

Riff based Darkthrone song !
quintessence!!!!
hail fenriz
essence of folk/ black metal
I have the CD, in rough shape, but this song still works the best lmao
One road to asa bay and quintessence had a baby
uff
I doubt this is a popular oppinion, but I think the Quintessence riff is put to much better use in this song than the Darkthrone song. Great riff wherever it is though.
Sam Hart i love both, but i agree this one is very nice, it holds a place in my heart, very nostalgic...
Merci Maxwell !

Well both were released in 1995, panzerfaust was released on 6th june but I'm not sure about Nordavind.
fenriz has an awesome voice!

The epitome of human music.
Storm or Darkthrone first? Check out both versions and decide..both of them go with the atmosphere of their respective albums
Anyway, thats a master piece in panzerfaust and nordavind.
This riff was written by Fenriz in early 1994.

Quintessence.
ah yes, the norwegian national anthem
Trve metal experience, only at 144p!
Supposedly this is meant to be Fenriz' outlook on quintessence.
Skolll!
If you read Panzerfaust leaflet, there is the surprising name of the one who composed Quintessence. And it's not Fenriz nor Satyr... Let's find out!
Actually Storm and Darkthrone are led by the same guy....
Actually Storm and Satyricon are led by the same guy....

Dude, this guy is into house-techno.
And people call him narrow-minded
Have you ever heard his project Neptun Towers? Gylve (Fenriz) is a true lover of all kinds of music! When I was working in a recordstore where he sometimes came, he bought hip hop, electro, indie, folk and more... Narrow-minded? Nope! Truly open-minded!
Hail Satyr
No si es una coincidencia o un plagio de parte de Darkthrone porque esta cancion salio antes de Quintessence, Aunque ambas salieron el mismo año 1995 asi que puede ser una coincidencia
Rediscovered this several times. Reminds me of my youth instantly.

This is awesome. I still like quintessence a bit better though. I also like how at 3:24 it sounded almost like one of Satyricon’s riffs.
Satyr of Satyricon plays guitar here..
Dark castle in the deep forest
Fenriz not cut a dash with this project
