Macchi C.205V Veltro.
footage taken of ANR (Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana) units in 1944-45 and of the Co-belligerant Italian air force in South of Italy.
The famous ace Adriano Visconti is visible in the cockpit of a 205.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Macchi C.205 Veltro (Italian: Greyhound) (also known as MC.205, "MC" standing for "Macchi Castoldi") was an Italian World War II fighter aircraft built by the Aeronautica Macchi. Along with the Reggiane Re.2005 and Fiat G.55, the Macchi C.205 was one of the three "Serie 5" Italian fighters built around the powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine. and used by the italian air force Regia Aeronautica) in world war two
The C.205 was a development of the earlier C.202 Folgore. With a top speed of some 640 km/h (400 mph) and equipped with a pair of 20 mm cannon as well as 12.7 mm Breda machine guns, the Macchi C.205 Veltro was highly respected by Allied and Axis pilots alike. Widely regarded as one of the best Italian aircraft of World War II, it proved to be extremely effective, destroying a large number of Allied bombers.
The Macchi C. 205 proved capable of meeting fighters such as the North American P-51D Mustang on equal terms, which encouraged the Luftwaffe to use a number of these aircraft to equip one Gruppe.
While the C.205 was able to match the best Allied opponents in speed and maneuverability, it was introduced late in the conflict. Due to the limitations of the Italian war economy, only a small production run was delivered before the end of the war.
Like the Spitfire, the Veltro was tricky in its construction and slow to build. Italy's highest-scoring ace, Adriano Visconti, achieved 11 of his 26 credited victories in the few weeks he was able to fly the Veltro, with the top-scoring Sergente Maggiore pilota Luigi Gorrini shooting down 14 enemy aircraft plus six damaged with the C.205.

All the hallmarks of a world class fighter.
Even better, the Fiat g55 , and the pinnacle of Italian fighters, the Re. 2005.
All three great planes.
All three ……. too little, too late . 😢
Actually even the planes they had before were pretty good too.
Mc 200,202, Re 2000,2001,2002
Even the G.50 wasn’t terrible.
Also the biplanes.
Of course tho, those were the best
Macchi 202 lacked firepower and the radio equipment was sub stardard. Otherwise a fine plane as well.
Common problem with the italian fighters was cost per unit, lagged far above the late bf109 - versions. Therefore it made no sense to re-allocate engines and to build a few excellent planes instead of a bigger amount of a bit less shiny, but still competitive.
Very under rated aircraft. Coolest camo pattern of any other planes IMO.
A gorgeous plane.
🙌
A masterpiece . All , the movie , the revamping and obviously that fighter.
Gli Uomini di ANR: Visconti, Stefanini, Bellagambi, Filippi, Fornaci, Gorrini, Cuscunà, Drago, Capatti, Sanson, Morandi, Tarantola, Weiss, Galletti, Boscutti, Castellani, Bortolani, Benetti, Laiolo, Faggioni...
Leali, fino alla fine.
ALL BRAVE AND PATRIOTIC AIRMEN.. BRAVO!!!!!
@@clementevaldez1271they fought for the Nazis after Italy switched sides
the Macchi warbirds have captured my curiousity since I was a teenager playing IL-2 Birds Of Prey!
My brothers used to (had to) take me to air shows all around the Kansas City area ( lots of airbases). We watched lots of air shows (loved them)
Love air shows very much too Sharon !
Awesome, thank you.
great plane!!
bellissimo!!!!
Grazie Mario
Questo aereo è bello, perfetto!
Very underrated plane with Daimler Benz engine DB 601
Would not say underrated, it`s good qualities were recognized, but it was only built in such small numbers that it made no significant effect to the aerial warfare. Therefore it has been left more or less a side comment also on war history literature.
Japanese also had some very good prop fighters coming into production late on the war, but it was too little too late, like Macchi 205:s.
Wrong. MC205 has the DB605 engine, not the DB601.
DB 605 Sir
Great presentation thanks
Thank you Anselm
Absolutely obvious and undeniable Daimler - Benz and Messerschmitt Me - 109 "horsepower" and "firepower" DNA (and "bloodline") along with a unique Hurricane - AND Spitfire - like design influence ... she's quite an impressive Italian beauty! Che bella!
🥰🤗😌👸❤🙌💪🏻👌
Great work!
thank you Matty
Tutto bello e bei ricordi!! Ma come sempre troppo pochi e troppo tardi!!. L'aviazione militare italiana è stata sempre scarsa di uomini e di mezzi. Per cui non bisogna dire altro, e continuare a sognare!!.
Dang, that ended too soon.
Troppo pochi, troppo tardi, .. troppo belli. (transl.: Too few, too late, .. too beautiful. A fair synthesis of modern Italian history)
LULZ ,
Italy has no natural resources as a country, it was still not that industrialized as today and still managed to create such masterpiece that if USA wouldn't enter the war giving fuel and supllies to other allies would have been very useful.
Wa "Fair synthesis of modern Italian history" just to have some thumbs up ?
@@alessandrom7181: "just to have some thumbs up ?" .. No, I would say no. Ultimately it depends on what you think about our history, if you think WW2 was a victory (many Italians still celebrate April 25th thinking we won the war that day) it would clearly be thumbs down. In any case, I think it was a tragic defeat for the nation and I think that if we managed to unify the country and build a colonial empire 50 years earlier, we might have had time to build a good industrial base, with enough manpower and resources to win WW2.
I understand that the problem of unification can be moved back to the battle of Fornovo on July 6, 1495, but perhaps even in that case we could write: too few, too beautiful .. too late! So ..
magnificent and technically faultless
Wow, have never seen actual footage of them.
A most beautiful and very deadly capable design....too few in numbers.....
This us so beautiful...but this is a "macchi 202 folgore", not a veltro...i think😅
It's a 205! Watch the 2 X 20mm cannons and the 2 small radiatord under the engine
@@Military_Clips_RestoredOk sorry
Say "thanks" to the DB60x series engines. Italian-build engines in ww2 were not so much reliable and performative, radials especially. They never committed themselves to build serious inline liquid cooled powerful engines until DB gave them permission to build the DB60x under license agreements.
It's like saying the Americans had to say "thanks" to the RR Merlin engine. The licence built DB had ben used because the Regia Aeronautica, in 1939, not only wanted inlines, but wanted them to be inverted V configuration, and the DB licence was available, not because there weren't alternatives. IE the 1500hp Piaggio P.XII radial, was available.
Last generation of real italian people
or not
What do you mean? Real? You mean the country that invaded Ethiopia and butchered 1000s? Or where fascism was born? Or where Mussolini declared war and then about 2.5 years later switched sides? How about Italians doing everything they can to wipe out Jews and other minorities? Your best is today. Not when millions of Italians were killed and wounded fighting against the allies.
Absolutely not you fascist guy
Too least and too late.
Say thanks to no one. If Italy wanted, they could buikd tgebest engines in the eorld, what ruins them is them, not anyone else.
Say thanks to Italy via the ROMANS for using their alphabet in your comment!
Che aria assorta il Capitano, chissà se è tornato alla base. Video bellissimo
Non ricordo il suo nome (mi sembra Satta o qualcosa di simile...) ma cadde purtroppo in combattimento....
