My first introduction to the grateful dead was in 1974. Pigpen had only been buried a year. I was 10 years old. By 1980 I realized the impact he had and ever since I have been his most fierce advocate whenever anybody asks me about the grateful dead. My admiration for pigpen resonates eternally. He is the most gentle badass that ever lived
No doubts about Pig..Garcias' guitar has everything to do with backing up Pig & vice versa. They had conversations with each other, playing off one another. During that era you never knew The Dead, if you never heard 15 min jams b'twn Pigs' drums and Garcias' guitar. An influential and intricate part of the bands' mystique.
pigpen wasn't a drummer he played the keys and the harp. he's a fantastic harp player as well his solos on smokestack lightning and i'm a king bee are amazing!
Oh man! Too bad! They somehow should've mixed this with Pav and James Brown, performing, Iz A Man's World. This with jst Brown and this with jst Pav. Shoot, they could've hologrammed(spell?) it!
I swear he drunk heavy he still sounded 1,00,000 better the current artists or singers even better or best u pull out from now or 2000s they still better not conpared to our pigpen true or not

Never knew the boys played this tune. Tight!! Wish they had played it more, seems like they played it a dozen times in 1970 and that was it.
Pigpen nailed it, and had that R&B and Blues vibe.
The Dead without Pigpen is almost as crazy as thinking of the Dead without Jerry. I miss you both so much brothers
Damn. I just missed Pigpen, went to my First Dead Show in Fall of 1973. He had charisma and chops! At the show, not a word. Strange.
Has to be part of the reasons why so many loved Ron. He has to be close to the top of his game on this one.
This is pretty cool, no doubt excellent. I NEVER thought they did this. Can't put anything past this guy.
It takes balls to cover this song --- and Pigpen pulls it off :)
Pigpen is my american idol.

Hell yeah dude. Never the same w/o Pig. He n Jer def had a very real and "mystical" connection there...which left with Pig. RIP
