- This is a Ford of Belgium film showing the unveiling of the new Ford Capri at the 1969 Brussels Motor Show. There are 74 different models on display in the Ford hall but the centrepiece is the brand new model, the Capri. King Baudouin does the honours and the commentary makes much of how impressed he is with the car. 279 Capris are sold during the 3 day show, which attracted 650,000 visitors.
What a beautiful range of cars. So sad to compare the current one.
Agreed!
LOL, the new EV "Capri" is a travesty, and mockery of the real thing from years ago.
Does Ford really believe people will actually buy this new Capri crossover? lol
@horseathalt7308 what makes me angry is the cynicism - like it's all that their customers deserve. They _know_ it's a pathetic attempt at all of the things the original represented.
@@dungareesareforfools You have it 100% correct. It appears as if Ford is laughing at their customers, and especially mature or older market segments. The problem at many companies today is that you have MBAs running them and many of them are younger, and have no passion for the products their organization sells to consumers. These companies were once run by "car guys". Not any more and it is sickeningly obvious.
I had sketches of that mk1 rally winning Twin cam Escort on every single one of my school exercise books - including that exact registration number!
Tolle Aufnahmen.. sehr schön ...
Die gute alte Capri Zeit ❤
Alan Mann Escort, that was the best livery ever put on a Mk.I Escort...
I saw the Alan Mann Racing service van at the end! (My school day heroes) 😁
I love the way the commentator tries to pronounce Capri with the correct French accent. However in Britain it’s pronounced “Ker-pree” mate! 😁👍🇬🇧
I love my 1600 mk1 1972 Ford Capri.
It's fitting that a Mercury Cougar XR7, along with a Ford Mustang, were displayed along with the Mark I Capri, as Lincoln-Mercury dealers would begin selling the Capri in the U.S. one year after this film was made.
Oh, to be able to go back in time and walk around on this show ...
As a Belgian, I used to always visit the Brussels Motor Show, but the last editions I went too, with not every brand present and per brand only a small selection of mainly EVs and SUVs, it has become only a shadow of its former self. It's sad, really.
The commentator trying very hard to be funny. 😂 but lovely memories of those cars
"New" Capri is not fit to bear the name. Ford are done. If not for the Mustang they have nothing to offer anymore.
"No, that's not a Wankel rotor, because Ford hasn't any" 😄
Nowt wrong with the Capri, shame that Ford got a git of a narrator to do the clip!!
Clever sales and marketing, everything from a 1300 to 1600 2000 2300 2600 and 3000 across UK and Europe.
All on a mk 2 Cortina floorpan .
Had a purple Dinky toys Capri as a kid .
Put me down for another 3000GT XLR Ford! Not the shyte electric milk float!
Mk1 was a sensation in its day Mk2 ugh
Mk3 fat and ugly
Much prettier than the later Mustangs though!
Mate the 3.0S mk3 and the 2.8i's looked fantastic.
“Part Mustang, part Escort”… Actually 100% Mk 2 Cortina under the skin.
No 3 LTR
Filmed everything apart from the fkn car itself...ugh. Would love to see a full vid of ALL the cars.... no way the Capri was the star of the show when a new '69 fastback Mustang was there...and im from the UK Nov '24
Sleek all around but, the rear of this Capri is barely an afterthought. Those tail lights look like Ford rummaged through the parts bin and just stuck them on.
Cost mattered, back then they wanted as many potential buyers as possible to actually be able to afford this modestly sporty car. People back then in design, production, and marketing understood reason. Today they do not. This is why the entire auto mfr business is crashing. MBAs destroy companies. Fact is for the price most buyers back then would gladly overlook such an insignificant detail on a great design otherwise. Want fancy, pay fancy prices.
From the Escort MK1 duh................
@@JohnSmith-ei2pz Doesn't matter where it came from. It's low effort styling.
@@BlackPill-pu4vi So what? It was huge sales success. You're the one that had the wad of money to buy a Alfa or BMW.
Not the Mk 1 Capri.
