You forgot to mention that one of the reseaons it was celebrated was it prevent Frence to help the south during the civil war that slowed down resources from France to the confederacy
In Mexico, the 5 of may is obviously important, but not celebrated as big as the United States does... Although most Americans just celebrate to have a good time without knowing the true reason behind it all...
The most important information that was left out of this video is that the main reason why the 5 of may is huge in the US is that the victory of the Mexicans over the French in the battle of Puebla in 1862 held the french back a whole year from their goal which was to invade all of Mexico in 3 months.. this victory helped Abraham Lincoln (of the northern states) defeat the Confederates (of the southern states) in the civil war... It was said that once the french would accomplish their goal of invading Mexico, they would work their way into the united states, ally with the confederate states, and possibly debilitate the u.s. to take hold of resources...
5:00 Thank you for this part of the video as it is the true reason why the United States adopted the “commercial” celebration. Beer companies like Modelo (now owned by Anheuser-Busch)Anheuser-Busch, and the Miller Company were the driving force behind the marketing. It was no coincidence that the companies picked May 5 and not Mexican Independence Day September 16. Of course, couldn’t have two Independence day celebrations in the United States.
Maybe I missed it but I thought we celebrate it for the reasons u said but also bc the French were planning on taking advantage that we were in a civil war and cross into America and take over and keep slaves… the south may have won
I truly believe that United States should not be celebrating Cinco de Mayo to me it's a cultural appropriation Americans put on Mexican sombreros eat Mexican food and drink without knowing the meaning behind it.

Well said! That information is vital to the main reason why the U.S. also celebrates the 5 of may.

Adding little more; the union army helped the Mexican army with uniforms and ammunition to fight the French.
And the General Ignacio Zaragoza the victor of the battle was born in Texas at that time part of México. At town was a big celebration.
Wow, nice and thorough. Thank you.
Nice. Thank you
We Mexicans don’t celebrate 5 de Mayo. We do celebrate on the night before Independence Day which is September 15 so you can celebrate that one too.

May 5th in the USA is the day to drink beer until you get drunk
And the civilians who help what about them ?
In the USA some people celebrate drinking till they get drunk nothing to do with history
U missed the real reason why it’s celebrated
