I remember lying in a caravan bed on a family holiday in 2000, listening to this song on my Sony Walkman radio when Flaming Lips played this live on the John Peel Show. It remains the single greatest sonic revelation I have experienced.
I remember hearing this and downloading around the time of soft bulletin. I always felt like this track and funeral in my head should have somehow made it on Yoshimi.
First came across this track years ago on Soulseek. Just amazing. Should have been on an album and I wish they'd have gone this route after Soft Bulletin instead of what they did on Yoshimi. There was also another incredible track from this Peel Session called "It Remained Unrealized", but it doesn't appear to be on youtube right now.
I just learned that the screaming noise near the end is noise musician Justice Yeldham (AKA Lucas Abela) doing his thing, which is playing a piece of contact-miked glass through guitar pedals with his face. He was doing a BBC session at the same time the Lips were, and they poked their heads in and asked him if they could use a bit of his work, and it looks like he said yes.
Did you mean the Lips are great when they aren't recording music for profit? Because, in some ways...sadly, I agree :/ Don't get me wrong, I love the Lips. Those Yoshimi years could've been less produced.

Some people think anything that wasn't recorded over the payphone from Siberia is "over-produced."
god damn I love this song. I wish they would put all of the b-sides from the DVD's ona 2 or 3 CD set.
Beautiful. Yes!!

The best song I never knew and now I love in a long time, thanks for posting!
Sounds like the chords are an early version of Are You A Hypnotist?? So good
Wow. Wow. I am at a total loss for what else to say. Cheers!
This was recorded on my sixth birthday. Not to throw myself out there too much though...
All of my shirts have blood on them
