Maybe a disk drive series from Apple II, Commodore, Atari, Amiga, Mac, etc? Blank floppy media reserves are running out and the drives themselves are now quite old and failing quickly. Capturing these sounds would be a bit like preserving ancient languages.
Love that analogy! It’s interesting, the drives do sound so distinct. My favorite has to be the FDDs that Apple used on their compact macs. They had just a distinct robotic sound.
Love this. I'm still trying to track down a MultiPort II and floppy drive. They were bundled with the machines when sold, but sadly often get separated afterwards.
I've seen the floppy drives come up here and there, but the port replicators are definitely a lot harder to find. I actually stumbled across an IBM official mod kit to make the 701C work with the Dock II. Now I just need a Dock II!
Like this kinda stuff? Let me know what other retro tech we should get in the recording studio!

I remember defragging hard drives and just staring at the display for an hour😄

Great Video! I like windows 95 and 98 most, on a crt screen.
The sound of my childhood. Takes me back to a simpler time of managing patience and excitement.
The installation is noticeably faster if you copy all the disks to the hard drive and run the setup from there. - Best regards.
Great tip!

@@polymatt If you ever come across an extra, think of me. 😂
@@LaptopRetrospective haha will do!
非常有意思,没想到,运行DOOM 会这么流畅。
I don't remember it going that fast. Maybe I just had really cheap hardware.
I remember Windows 95 was an absolute beast. Something like 20 disks... luckily, Windows 3.1 was far fewer... still took forever :)
