this fight [in fanon] takes place after the ending of sonic x and sonic adventures 2 but before shadow the hedgehog's game. so shadow still has memory loss from the fall back to mobius and chris just went back to earth after the defeat of the meta-rex/metal rex.
also this is after sonic battle on the gba [which was tied to sonic x though emeral] so you will see shadow and sonic using their moves from that game like "sonic wind", or shadows c teleport.
also moves like tails blaster cannon and knuckles upstrike are from that game, it was one of the first to show knuckles can dig like, with adventures reconfirming it. the upstrike move comes from sonic battle itself and is a move emeral can copy.
also chakra x confirmed in a youtube q&a video that the reason sonic stops using dark form is it leaves 0 lasting damage on nazo as they are made from the same source of dark emerald energy.
