This is 1992 1993. It was definitely Simon bisley era. Heavy metal and grunge was huge. Long rocker hair was in. Nomad was another character from that time with the same early 90s long hair renegade look.
Man another good one. So much i want to say about this one. 1. I wonder what John Byrne really thought of Jae Lee taking over art duties from him. Did he pick him? What did he really think of Jae Lees art? 2. I own the first 50 issues of this title. I thought the concept was really good. But i think it was a missed opportunity for Byrne. The environmentalist approach could have been a lot more intriguing but instead he stuck with the same old Marvel formula. 3. Man if you got Jae Lees X-Factor issues, hope you review those some day. Those were my introduction to his art. Completely unexpected and the highlight of X-Cutioners Song. 4. I see in the comments others comparing his art to Simon Bisley and Lobo. Definitely. Not sure if you have but hope you review some Simon Bisley books soon. Wonder what your thoughts are on his style. His Batman/Dredd comic was pretty cool. Great work once again Rob!
Thanks man. I really appreciate it. I DO wonder what byrne must have thought. And the xfactor jae lee issues WILL crop up at some point. As for bisley…. That another artist that i never ended up collecting anything by. To my shame
Jae Lee is not just drawing he is totally illustrating the hell out of it. But it is a double edged sword, he is sacrificing storytelling for moneyshots.
I like certain aspects of Jae Lee’s art, but sometimes I think he’s a little to loose with things. For example, if I had only seen the single shot shown at 11:20 , without any other context, I would’ve thought I was looking at Wolverine beating up a sentinel.
3:48 You Just spatter Ink over the PAGE! Awesome Figures! 4:46 Wow! Those Fantastic Fours I would read! Some Backgrounds he could draw. Some. 6:14 Bisley, Texeira .... Keith? 7:32 Those Shapes.... THAT MOOD! MAn.... Jae is a great SToryteller. Dark. 10:54 I guess JAE is the ASSMAN! ...I thought Kramer was that. Or I would look at Jim Lee art...but well. 15:38 Love that Page... maybe I should start doing more Jae Lee MEGA shortcuts^^ I love JAE LEE... but It's somehow LAzy. But I dont know how much he was working on to CLAIM THA CASH.
Very Bisley inspired. I'm really curious how Jae Lee did those water splashes and all that organic inking on the water.
The muscles and proportions definitely give off Lobo vibes
@@mr.jultra4720 The empty backgrounds and the splatter also really resemble Lobo.

I started with issue 26 I think. Wild stuff, but the lack of backgrounds does bug me.

That has a strong Simon Bisley wanna vibe
Don't sleep on the short spiderman run he did in his era too. Namor to the first hellshock mini was peak Jae for me.
I have those somewhere for sure
Linkara cannot make good takes on 90s artists. I like Jae lee’s art
