The quick attachment system to the back of the saddle is ingenious. I love it. I have never seen anything like this before. I too would prefer quick release closures for the bags.
I met one of the designers at a bike show here in Bristol a couple weeks ago, if all goes well there will be a lightweight one with quick closures, I told him if he needs it tested send it my way 😀 it would be fantastic for long rides (Audax rides or credit card touring). They are just a tiny London based company now, I'm looking forward to seeing how they grow.
I watched your "London by e-bike" with the Shimano Nexus hub. I just traded in my MTB for a European style trekking / city commuter bike with Shimano Nexus hub. I'm surprised by how quick and nimble these bikes are compared to MTBs. I'm looking forward to shifting with no gear slippage and a maintenance free gears experience. The internal hub is something new and interesting for me. A bag that doesn't destabilize the bike would be nice. Straps & buckles are too fiddly. People don't do "fiddly" any more, that was a different era. Cycling is going through the roof in my town in Arizona, about 4X as many cyclists as 5 years ago. If I buy a second bike, it will be the Brompton for travel. Thanks for these videos. I enjoy them!
I hope you enjoy this week's video. There will be a delay in my replying to your comments because as you enjoy the video Nathan and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary 😃
Thanks a lot for the video. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Brompton Kit + Otis bag cause the City Bag on the Electric is too small. Just on question that bothers me : the bag doesn't get in the way from pedaling ? It seems very close to the upper legs.
Another great video. I really appreciate your reviews! I started with a couple collections of Ortlieb bags for bike touring and bikepacking. I also used the touring bags for commuting. Now, exploring a Surly porteur rack bag, a couple (few) bags by Swift Industries, and the Arkel line of bags with their unique rack mounting mechanism. In terms of durability and waterproofing, I think the Ortlieb bags are unbeatable. I’ll use them for the rest of my life. However, like you suggested, the aesthetic isn’t quite what I’m looking for when commuting, day touring, etc., so my touring bike which is also my daily driver on most days has a rack-mountable backpack by Arkel. The Surly porteur rack and bag seems like a good fit for my XC bike (which isn’t suited for pannier racks), and the Swift Industries bags on my gravel bike also don’t require pannier racks (I like this bike better without the rack). Hopefully, this short essay provides a modicum of justification for all the bags I have lying around the house!
It's fun to experiment but gets expensive for sure! Is Arkel the Canadian company from Quebec? I've been eyeing up front racks at my local bike hub here. They look great for strapping my normal bags to. And the Swift Industries is one of the many little handlebar bags I've been eyeing (they are good for when I have me cameras with me). Sounds like you have a solid line up! At the moment I have 3 sets of panniers... so that needs narrowing down to 2 (the tailfin ones and another set which I think will be my Crosso's I'm partial to their simple design).
Is there any kind of front mount basket that works with the electric Brompton? Like the basket for the manual Brompton? I want a front bag I can toss my purse & helmet phone & water bottle in & access while riding, not a briefcase. And not a rack mounted bag I have to remove to stand the bike at stops.
I would love to have one, but is there any way to mount it somewhere else towards the rear? The bike I have has a handle to lift up and remove the battery that looks like it'd interfere with mounting. 😅
Altura Sonic 40L panniers - very tough, waterproof and they can carry loads of stuff without fraying or ripping apart. I stuff mine with either musical equipment or shopping, sometimes both without any problems! 😀
I've learned it's usually best to invest in a well made piece and buy it once, if you can, better for your bank balance in the long run (and the environment)
Hi there. Really good video. Have a Brompton electric and thinking of getting one of these lovely bags. Notice you had the regular saddle kit in the video rather than Brompton specific one ..... Does the electric Brompton need the regular saddle kit ...cant find info on the frost and sekers site. Thanks
The one I use in the video is Brompton specific it has to be to work. It might be that they are out of stock. Might be worth messaging them and checking. They are on Instagram.
@@robertrobhog good idea! I'll add that to the list of video ideas. Perhaps I'll do an update on all items I've reviewed the previous 12 months at the end of summer. 👍
ooh-hoo! Another bag for my Brompton! I commute along the seafront, so headwinds are usually my biggest enemy - having the option to have a bag behind my legs instead of a bloody great airbrake on the front. My favourite Brompton bag is my UPSO Ferrybridge Folder, not least because they're all unique
Not sure how the Caradice one works exactly the one we have in the house isn't the traditional one. The Frost+Sekers bag can be over filled as there's a topper of sorts with a draw string and the straps on the outside have plenty of capacity. You could even do up the inside of the bag and strap a jacket under the flap. Hope that answers your question.
The 2 Bromptons I have use lights mounted above the fender. The bag also offers a place to clip a light to so there's a lot of options for lights. Under the saddle isn't a great place to mount lights for myself due to the jackets I wear, they would cover the light.
Great bags . Nice to see you reviewing Brompton stuff and promoting Bristol.

I like thule, especially the pannier. It have the door for hook that can be hide when u use as sling bang. Thank you 😊 regards from Malaysia 🇲🇾
I came across Thule when I was looking for a bike rack, I didn't realise they did panniers too.

Didn't read your post... Congrats on the anniversary 🎉👏, many more to come
I dont even own a Brompton and I already have a huge list of accessories and hacks I want to buy/do :D tks for the video!
There is a manufacture in Nelson UK called Carradice they make all sorts of bags for bikes

Hello, great video! What are the interior dimensions of the bag? I need to bring my 13” MacBook Pro with me when I commute, will that fit in this bag?
Frost+Sekers website shows it as "40x20x21cm, Suitable for 15 inch laptops"

Yes, Arkel is CANADIAN. First rate bags. Thanks again for the excellent video.

Looks like a good size bag and carrying system is easy to use able to take a similar weight off your back which would be my requirement. Thanks.
Always good to keep weight off your back! It can fit a fair amount into it.
I use a Vancouver brand two wheel gear.Backpacks Briefcases and a nice sling bag.But still looking one bag that fits all my bikes.Great video.

Thanks for the recommendation! I see a fair few Altura bags around.
@@OneLessCar They're a bit pricey but they're definitely worth it in my opinion.

Nice clear review, keep up the good work. Would have been nice to see how you attached 'fixings' to your bike ?
Thank you, very clear, excellent!
Would the bag hit ur heels? as the bag is hanging down?
Anyone know of similar bags available in North America, especially Canada? I'm searching for a great rear, off the seat, solution....
Frost and sekers post internationally for free if you buy the bag and mount
what do u think about the new brompton b75 ?
Great video that bag looks similar to the old british make caradice
It does have a very similar esthetic. I'm looking forward to seeing them do a lightweight version.
hope you do an update in a few months time, see if the rivets on the straps hold up ok..

Yes, the UPSO bags do look good & each one is different as they're made of recycled lorry tarps!
Is it possible to over-stuff the bag and still secure it closed like the caradice?

Unfortunately, the quicklock mount, and the bag, obstruct the special saddle-mounted Cat-Eye Brompton rear light..
... so this item is a no-go for me.

Nice
Sorry to pick fault with your efforts but most of the content is shot in Bath not Bristol!
Aesthetics dictate the leather and metal buckles, I'd rather have some sort of hook and loop ,aka Velcro..
I'm a big fan of the speed of velcro, the risk with velcro though is that it can catch onto your clothes and snag.
Never use panniers . I have a bike box
Is your box something that straps to a bike rack?
