    I love George Eliot, in fact I am a bit of a George Eliot fanatic, but I completely understand that her style is not for everyone. I call her writing style indulgent and luxurious. George Eliot herself, along with her publishers, called her style _belles lettres_ . I liken it to eating rich food - I love it, but I can only take in a little at a time. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts.

      That’s a good way of putting it! I also understand why people love her, I just can’t help but hear condescension in her tone. But maybe it’s my imagination. 🙃

      @@RelishBooks - nope. not your imagination. Read her essay 'Silly Novels by Lady Novellists. She was definitely a literature snob especially in her younger years HAHAHA
