I am a History Major and Anthropology minor, switching them this fall. Having the new Major of Anthropology is more time in school but I agree, it does go well with the history minor.
When you said gender studies I was like ayy thats what I am minoring in lol. A minor that would pair well for those who are a Medical Anthropology major that I recommend is public health! I am double minoring in that and WGS studies and these have both matched well with my major. Ty once again for a great video!
hi, I'm a senior high student from Taiwan, and I'm actually applying for the anthropology major at my dream school recently, your videos really help me a lot to learn more about anthropology:) just want to drop by and say thanks to you!
I’m not sure if this is considered a field of anthro in most universities, but at my university I’m doing anthropological sciences which includes ecology as well! I’m taking an oceanography class (super excited just got my textbook) this semester and there’s a ton of sustainability courses in my anthropology department (: I think the idea that ecology is a part of human culture and behavior is really important in creating models for the future development of society!
Hi! My school did not have anthropological sciences, but that sounds AMAZING! I did a minor in Evolutionary Medicine and had to take ecology courses and really enjoyed them. Thank you so much for sharing and I hope you love it!
First I just want to say that I've fallen in love with your channel because very recently I had the realization that I was super interested in Anthro, but without knowing what the actual definition was 😂 I've been searching for more information on this field of study and finding your channel has been so helpful! Second, I'm still at community college but when I transfer (hopefully UC Irvine) I would ideally minor in Asian Studies or Latin American Studies. Both regions are very fascinating to me and UCI's Anthro degree specializes in the sociocultural subfield, so I think it would pair well. 💗
You are so sweet, thank you!! And Ikr 😂 it's kind of a tough one lol. It brings a smile to my face to know my channel has been able to help you out :) UC Irvine is such an amazing school, I hope that works out for you. Those areas of study would be awesome!!
Informative video and good recommendations, so thanks! I wanted to reiterate a comment above about Public Heath as a minor. I am a Medical Anthropology graduate student and having a minor in public health in my undergrad introduced me to new concepts in the field of environmental health and health communication, as well as reinforced ideas concerning social determinants of health and the ecological model on micro/macro levels; and finally proposed new research methods such as Community Based Participatory Research that really highlight the community directly involved in the study. CBPR even pairs well with archaeology, as I have used it in projects in the past. All of your recommendations are great and it really all depends on what the student is interested in and how they think they can use a minor to support their aspect of anthropology. Once again, awesome video!
Hi! I remember your last comment and you are incredibly right-public health and anthropology compliment one another wonderfully ESPECIALLY if you are interested in medical anthropology. I took public health last year and it was cool to see how the field works and what it does. Thank you so much for sharing this!
@@AliviaBrown I only have the time because this is my second bachelors so I can go at whatever pace I want. I only had one major and no monies for my first degree.
hi i'm an anthropology student in indonesia, i really like your video, it really helped me in understanding the concept of anthropology. because in Indonesia many are not familiar with anthropology
Hi Alivia! You may or may not remember me, but I've decided to shift away from psychology to a more liberal arts-focused education. I love psychology, but I've noticed throughout my time in community college that I'm much more passionate about subjects like History, Anthropology, Sociology, Philosophy, and related fields of study. Your videos have been a huge help in me coming to that realization. I plan to change my major to History and minor in either Anthropology or Sociology once I transfer. Thank you!
Hi Daniel! I actually do remember you!! I have honestly had some of the same realizations during my time as an undergrad :) It warms my heart to know that my videos have been helpful-you're welcome!
Alivia, all the best to you as a soon-to-be graduate of the best university in the world. I just wanted to add that UCLA has a new minor in Social Data Science, and it's specifically geared for social-science majors who want to partake in the _Big Data_ component that UCLA is instituting campus-wide, through its excellent Mathematics and Engineering departments. It should help SS majors at UCLA become more professionally prepared also, particularly in the possible UX/UI Design profession that you mentioned as possibilities for Anthro majors before. Statistics is also a short major at UCLA, so a lot of students in a wide array of majors are adding it as a double or minoring in it. In fact, the writeup for Stats encourages students to study anything and everything.
As someone who is on the other side of undergrad, as a Master's student, one thing that anthropology pairs fantastically well with art history. It is a pairing that works for everyone considering visual culture, communications, and analyzing the evolution of representation practices in history. I am writing my thesis on the development of migration iconography in documentary photography and, without a combined anthropology/art history background, you might experience some gaps and holes within your methodology and your theoretical background.
I am so relieved to come across your comment. I’m in my second semester of community college. This semester I just changed my major to Anthropology from Art. I thought I messed up. I want to head to a four year university with the emphasis of Cultural or Sociocultural Anthropology. Once I transfer, I will definitely be considering Art or Art History as a minor.
😊thanks for the video I decided at this point to make my minor Native American and Indigenous studies because we have quite a few tribes in Wyoming where I live and the surrounding states. I'm not 100% sure if I will stick with this minor, because I am interested in a lot of things. But I would like to work with Native Americans in some way because my daughter is half Native American.
That is such a wonderful combination!! Thank you so much for sharing! And yes the best way to learn if it is for you is by trying it hehe. You got this!
I am say does going well with anthro with English major I feel like every major that student does and it goes well with it and I hope you can give me some tip or advice about anthro minor with my English major
Since I’m a freshman, or well exiting my freshman year, I can’t declare a minor at my university yet but I am all over the place lol. First I was like, oh maybe a french minor would be cool because a foreign language is always helpful in any field. Then I was like, maybe criminal justice or somewhere in the law field would be good. Yeah I have no idea so now I’m looking at earth science or geology because they might help with archeology 😅
Aw, you have so much time! I don't think I knew what I wanted my minor to be until sophomore year and did not declare until junior year. I started with wanting to do math, then switched to cognitive science, then wound up doing evolutionary medicine. Geology could be a great option!
Hey Joey, if you can keep pace with the program, Geographic or Global Information System pairs very well with archaeology. I studied GIS during my undergrad and have used it in some way during my archaeological projects.
@@MRTeamWater A professor I spoke with at my university actually recommended taking classes for GIS. is there a minor that it associates with or would taking a class or two with it be better?
Hi! That sounds amazing!! I personally am such a geography nerd and find knowing where places are on a map so interesting. I genuinely think geography would compliment anthropology really well :)
Hi! Do you mean environmental science as a minor for the anthropology major? If so, then yes! Environmental justice is becoming increasingly connected to anthropology and if this is something you are interested in, the two could be a great pair :)
What career path would i take, if i majored in anthropology and minored in psychology? I'm planning to major in anthropology next august and i was wondering what job or career path? Thank you!!! ♥
Wow, good luck that is such a wonderful combination! It is actually exactly what I wanted to do but my school did not offer a minor is psychology. And there are so many options! I would explain it here but I actually have a few anthropology career videos on my channel if you wanted to check them out. They are usually under the popular uploads tab :) Good luck, you got this!
It's not technically a minor, but more like a part of psychology. Taking a course or something seems interesting It is fun if you like understanding people at an individual level, in comparison to anthro which is more broad.
Business or technical courses help the best for anthropology or any other liberal arts, general science, or useless degree. Finance and IT aren’t far away!
