Going to be watching more videos, my biggest downfall right now is lack of experience, its been years since my last remodeling/framing job but I have confidence and a fast learner. Mikey That’s awesome bro! I can relate I got a degree in psychology but I’m using it to help grow my business. It’s helpful to have the education. For the experience I would just say go with the things you’re comfortable with and build on that. There’s tons of people that need a handyman to do simple tasks that they’re just not capable to do.If you’re honest with your customers and give quality work I’m sure you’ll do great! I'm glad you made this video because there is no "handyman license " in Florida and you are very limited. This is why I am going for my painters license since I worked with a paint contractor for more than 5 years. He had to provide his signature, drivers license in presence of a notary. I was a superintendent assistant in N.Y. but I can not legally use that knowledge here in Florida. This link, is a Florida government website. Those interested should at least read 489.101 through 489.119 A specialty license Plumber, electrician, painter, soloar, all have different require. Painting is one of the easier ones. Each one requires a buisness account (for painter 2,000.00) For specially contractors license You'll need 100,000 liability insurance (that's probably what you have in vehicle insurance) and 25,000 in property insurance. It appears You'll need workman's compensation even if you don't have workers (covers you). I'm formed an LLC. Partnerships disadvantage it leaves you open to unlimited liability but you may be able to remedy that with insurance. There's the advantage you mentioned. The fee for the license is about $500.00 each time you take the test $88. The NASCLA books, you'll need two about $100.00 each.

Wanted to add this to the main comments. Looks like house bill 735 will allow us to actually do some handyman work without having to get a “specialty license” like painting. House bill 735 “Preemption of Local Occupational Licensing; Preempts licensing of occupations to state; prohibits local governments from imposing or modifying licensing requirements; specifies certain local licensing may not be enforced; specifies certain specialty contractors are not required to register with Construction Industry Licensing Board; prohibits local governments from requiring certain specialty contractors to obtain license; specifies job scopes for which local government may not require license; authorizes counties & municipalities to issue journeyman licenses.”
I’ve never heard of that I’ll have to look into it for sure. I was fortunate to get a business mentor who is also a general contractor cell that is helpful when I am taking on work that requires other licensing. But that is awesome thank you for the comment I’ll have to look into that.

Painting shouldn't require a special license, imo. People need to make a living and the state has too many requirements making it hard for some to stay afloat in this economy. Good luck
Great video. Can you explain your partnership with the General Contractor a bit more? Does he get a cut of your sales, or do you do discounted work for some of his jobs? How does that work exactly?
So I got lucky enough to partner up with a guy who is taking me under his wing he is mentoring me and coaching me into becoming a general contractor. He helps me by throwing me jobs for high-end clients also allowing me to assist him in small subcontracting jobs as well as helping him with quick flip jobs as he needs them because his wife sells homes. So we just help each other he’s really mentoring and coaching me along helping me with pricing things like that and then return I’m always there when he needs me.
I have some experience in several areas. However; I just do favors, nothing like an income. Since COVID there's a little more demand and I call my buddies for a job opportunity for a list of home repairs. All 7 of my buddies have complained that people want and need a lot done, but these homeowners will not pay too much or even the quoted fee. What do you say or how do respond on homeowners negotiating fees?
I just explain to them that I’m not the cheapest handyman and then I tell them why. I sell myself on my professionalism on the careful planning that goes into each project any choosing out of the correct materials for their specific project all of these things factor into my price. And if they’re looking for somebody to do work for $25 that’s fine I understand but I’m not that guy but if they choose to hire me they will rest assured knowing the project will be done correctly and they will know about every step that is taken to make sure their project is completed. It’s really just an opportunity to sell yourself and if they’re not interested in that then you move on and they are not Your client. In order to run a business you cannot spend too much time with clients that want to tell you how to run your business. Just be fair and firm. Best of luck!

Pressure washing gutter cleaning window cleaning all of that falls under handyman services. Now if you only offer those services I don’t know if you can call yourself a handyman but if you get a Handyman occupational license in the state of Florida you’re allowed to do all those things.

The state of Florida no written exam is necessary for other contractor licenses there are. If you are trying to do real repair work you’ll find out quickly that you need to obtain other licensing.
Just the planning stage thinking about a name thinking about how you’re going to market yourself to clients etc. But the first thing you need to do once you’ve come up with your business in your mind and on paper is sunbiz good luck!!!
The problem with this approach is that you’re shooting yourself in the foot by paying into a system that gives you nothing in return. That’s not the principle of government, especially in Florida. You can avoid the vast majority of these “regulations” by simply calling them what they are… repairs to existing structures. If the county wants to argue against a homeowner with an approved permit as you simply assist them… then they better be prepared to justify their approval and how your presence altered the engineering.
They stomp the carpenter in Florida... It's all about the money.by the time you pay every person so you can work yer working to pay everyone 🤯I guess none is getting work done by me LoL...Not a state to make money.Thanks for the video...

In Florida yea. They want to be able to regulate everything. Don’t let it discourage you. Once you have these things in place it’s simple to keep them renewed in the beginning it seems like a lot but once you get them done you were good to go. Working really hard to get this all set up make you feel confident and also makes everything very rewarding because you know you’re doing it the right way.
All the occupational license in Florida for handyman is he’s going to your local tax collector and paying them that’s what it’s all about this money so don’t let it discourage you too much. As far as the other licensing letting you do certain tasks just look into what is qualified if you have the qualifications you could take the exams and get those licenses.

How do I find affordable GL AND WORKERS COMP Insurance ?
I would try next insurance. It’s all online so they have less overhead and better rates. That’s who I use.
