It brought me unimaginable joy to see how much you struggle with those flathead screws! Haha! You did such a great job, Peter! Thanks so much for making the blanks, your willingness to come visit, and teaching me how to turn. I'm really excited at how well the handle turned out too! It's so neat looking and I can't wait to make more. 😀
@FishersShop Hey Drew, you could potentially work a swell into the handles with the blanks with the wider orientation of screws, just a thought to use them all =) good luck, can't wait for the follow up video!
You know you can usually hammer in old school screws right? A lot of older dudes back in the day swore that screw heads were for disassembly, for assembly everything is a nail. Pre drilling is also really helpful with evil screws
Peter - what an incredible teacher you are. Patient, observant, in no way expressing how much you know or how good you are. Humble. That was my favorite part was listing to you teach and observe. And working with Mr. Fisher as he learns a new skill. Was very heart warming to watch!
I have watched you create so many beautiful things since I subscribed to your channel. But watching you be defeated by a screwdriver ( I refuse to blame those beautiful brass screws) was the laugh I needed today. ❤
To get such a light dye color you could take a small sample of resin, put a drop in that sample then mix a small amount of the colored resin into the main.
When struggling with screws, regardless of material, never underestimate the value of a pilot hole. Drilling a teensy lil starting point to keep the screw from dancing and jumping around as you try to turn it can be invaluable.
When I was young and somewhat into crafts and making you had a head full of black. Now that I'm thoroughly interested in both, I see gray. Thank you for your time Peter. I appreciate it.
Question about the heating process of the stabilizing resin: can you put parchment paper between the material and the tin foil? That way it peels off easier? Or would that not work? Obviously there was no issue for this project but for other materials
Great collab! It was great to see the other side of this. Also timely, as I am working on a project now involving resin, which isn't new to me but I don't do it often. So, phenomenal to see how a veteran does it. I need to dig through your videos to see the why behind the pressure pot, vs. the vacuum chamber. I have the vac chamber to pull out bubbles, which also really seems to help permeate whatever "thing" I am casting in the resin from my limited experience. But if I also should be using a pressure pot to finish out the casting & curing...
Drew talked about you on his podcast this week and I saw his video this morning. Love your idea for the hybrid blanks. Brilliant. Your collab has worked: new subscriber and I've already enjoyed a few of your other projects.
Watching you use the band saw makes me nervous. I suspect you know what you're doing but seeing fingers so close to that blade gives me the heebejeebes.
After seeing them on James May's Reassembler, I bought a set of those slot screwdrivers that are two overlapping blades that expand to grip the head of the screw. I mean slotted screws _still_ suck, but they're slightly less annoying to deal with, now.
Quick tip! Take a jar as a secondary container in case the resin rises too high. Container with resin - - - - jar - - - pump. If it rises too high it will just spill into the jar and not get in the pump.
You know how brake bleeder pumps have that little cup in line with the vacuum? You could set something like that up on your vacuum tube and have a backup safety for your pump, if any resin gets pulled into the line it gets stuck in the catch cup
It looks like brisket. "All night long. all night all night. All night long." Revenge of the neighbor. Muahahahahahahaha This is going to be fun. I have never seen a shop that clean.
I have a question. I am an avid crocheter. Would it be possible to make crochet hooks with wood handles and metal hooks? You'd need to make a set of them or make the hooks interchangeable but would it be possible?
I'll look around for this answer, but can you tell me why the pressure pot is used instead of a vacuum? I know the pressure pot makes the bubbles smaller, but it also means they are under pressure all the time waiting to break out. Drawing a vacuum means the bubbles would not be present at all and once the bubbles stopped you could release it and allow the resin to cure under atmospheric pressure. There must be a good reason, like foaming perhaps, but no one does it and I'm wondering why not.
You really need to install a liquid catch chamber in your vacuum chamber setup. That way you don't have to worry as much about resin escaping your vacuum chamber.
And if you run out of walnut while you're in Drew's neck of the woods, his neighbor has a live-edge walnut table just sitting there in his way, that I'm sure he wouldn't mind you sawing off the end. You know, to do him a favor.
:) You know watching you cut the wood into cubes made me think that another maybe fun collab might be with @HydraulicPressChannel let them crush the sheets out of those cubes first :_)
Cursed thought, what happens if you pour just the stabilizer resin in a mold and baked it? I know it won't be a perfect cast, I wanna see what the chaos *is*
Ok, I’m going to ask the dumb question of the day. Why couldn’t you just chuck a handful of those little brass screws into the voids and just let them sink in the resin when you poured it?
@@vgullotta I normally shorthand would anyways as its harder for me to type oul in the middle of words; but i switched from my usual wud to wood just for the pun heh

Pre-drill!!!

Thank you Drew!!
Sorry I called you the devil. Those screws made me do it.

Whatever you do, keep Mrs. Brown talking in your videos. It's very entertaining.
Spite is my favorite material!
Ditto. 😂
PETER!! Drill a pilot hole!!! (For the flatheads)
Lol. That's what i kept saying!
I saw this man get a heads full of white hair, time sure does fly.
Isn't that crazy. What happened?!
@@peterbrownwastaken I think we are getting old XD
@@peterbrownwastaken you're becoming a more powerful wizard, clearly.
Are you sure that's not just resin shavings? :p
He's added a drop of blue dye. Prevent yellowing over time.

Two of the warmest, funny, entertaining channels out there collaborating on a project? Excellent!
I can't begin to describe the joy I felt at the final image of you two standing together.
Im noticin you opted **not** to try to murder Drew with this project; unlike the last maker you sent metal in resin to xD
Love the collaboration and project. Had to pause to cancel the timer Siri created for me at the 6 minute mark 😀

You have been my favorite person to watch for some time, and can i just say you are aging like a fine wine.. keep up the good work
Thank you!
If I fly to CA will you teach me how to turn? 😁
Sure thing!

😊 It is amazing to see how much work and dedication goes into spite. I like that you gave him options.
I misread the title and thought it said Sprite. I was confused how he added lemonade to a resin project.
You’re looking good! Can really tell that you’re taking your health journey seriously. Nice work.
That "not baked potatoes" right before the Wally talk had be laughing.
12:25 How do you clean the paddle after mixing?

I'm nowhere near as neat and careful as Drew! :)
Its been a while since i have suggested this but back again. You should stabilize a stack of sticky notes to make micarta.
Oh man, using the belt grinder as a sanding block is the most relatable thing I've seen in ages.

It would be easier if you just drill pilot holes for those screws.

Nice Happy Gilmore reference. And good video.
That piece of walnut though 👀
As a 3D Printer, "Making mistakes is part of making things" rings so very true.
For those screws... predrilling is your best friend.
You know what they say, it's about 10% prep and 90% work
Thank you, I cannot say I'll ever do this again but...
...appreciate the advice.
Yeah I cannot imagine trying to use screws without a pilot hole.
You could add a little catch can to your vacuum line to catch any inhaled resin
Very Nice Peter, you are a great teacher
I had to bribe Drew to delete all the parts when I was yelling at him!
@@peterbrownwastaken LOL :D
I appreciate the convenience of the the power paddle and I do not begrudge you that but I miss my popsicle stick noises
Have you considered building a trap to go between your vacuum chamber and pump? I'd be too nervous to not have that kind of safeguard.
You know how brake bleeder pumps have that little cup in line with the vacuum? You could set something like that up on your vacuum tube and have a backup safety for your pump, if any resin gets pulled into the line it gets stuck in the catch cup

Brass is such a pretty metal. I think it's underrated.
Am I wrong in remembering Fisher's Shop as one of the true woodworking UA-cam OGs?
thank you for starting a 2 hour timer on my Mac...
Those screws would've turned into nails in my workspace =D

The collab we didn’t know we need until now.
Is there any benefit to repeating the vacuum cycle for the stabilising resin?
There can be but just leaving the pieces to soak longer after the vacuum is off is probably more beneficial
You need the screwdrivers from Hand Tool Rescue. They are hollow ground to grab better on slotted screws.
Wouldn't cutting to size before the cactus juice make it easier for it to stabilize the bits you care about ?
That would require planning ahead. :)
Flathead screws are the worst! Buying a slotted flathead driver changed my life. I don't think I've ever dropped a flathead screw since getting one.
What TPI is ur band saw blade when you cut it first at 2:00

Have you tried stabilising colored chalk to put in resin?
Was watching this video and my wife said your hair was "immaculate".
I think Rockler should send you a fence for your bandsaw.
And the immortal words of Bob Ross there are no mistakes just happy accidents
You really need to install a liquid catch chamber in your vacuum chamber setup. That way you don't have to worry as much about resin escaping your vacuum chamber.
When you went to the side yard, I literally thought you were "going to your neighbors house" for walnut.

I just misread the thumbnail as "Walnut Brass Resin and Spittle" xD
Some of that too.
I read sprite. And wondered how he added lemonade to the resin.
Shouda pre-drilled for the screws lol
Peter "Two Sheds" Brown
I was expecting "Let me take you over to my neighbor's house"
UV cure resin might have been easier to hold the screws in place; rather than trying to screw them in a small bit.
Pilot holes, Peter. Pilot holes.
Take a drill and make a pilot hole for the screws next time.
Why no power drill???
2 words on the brass screws. PILOT HOLES!!!
"I thought I saw something floating in here." Probably another brass screw.
