High Court rules as constitutional the use of soldiers during protests

  • The High Court has upheld the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces to assist the police in quelling the ongoing protests. Justice Lawrence Mugambi in his ruling said that Military Engagement is within the law and necessary to help maintain order and protect key infrastructure. However, the Judge said the court retains powers to receive and deal with complaints or violations as long as military intervention lasts. LSK had filed a petition following a gazette notice that led to the deployment of KDF to assist police to contain ongoing protests in various parts of the country. Ruth Wambui has this story .
