this has got to be the most underrated channel in all of home theater on youtube. your videos are so detailed and informative , keep up the good work my friend. i've watched your other videos and it makes me realize just how much i still have to learn about this hobby.
Thanks. We sold that house in December but yeah I agree the snack bar would have been great. Check out my recent videos I posted one of two renderings for the new theater.
cool video ..... how Will the sound be if you remove a great deal of all the insulation materials around your speaker (not sub) thinking they would benefit from getting some air around them, have you experimented ??
Have you seen the ep on Inwalls? They need to be sealed into a wall to get the benifits of the baffle wall effect. As for the acoustic treatments, all reflections will be manipulated for optimal sound. I'll be using a mixture of different treatment options.
Hello. And thanks for reply. now it makes sense I thought it was a "regular" speaker and therefore could not understand the amount of isolation. But when it's a dedicated built-in speaker, I understand. your home theater seems to be of quality and your attention to detail is superb. Finally, good work and for God's sake keep making videos, they are good and meticulous. Yours sincerely A fan from Denmark🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰 PS. Using Google translate, hope it will translate properly.
I plan on it for sure. If I do I wanna do something tron/space themed. I'll also be doing an atmos system in my living room and bedroom. We actually find we watch a lot more of our shows on the bedroom lately.
Hi, amazing build and I can really tell you have put a ton of thought and effort into the build and design. I completely agree with you on the front wall, the mains sound better placed just outside of the screen edges. I saw your review on the Volt 10, i have 4 volt 6 myself and I must say they sound phenomenal for all the less than stellar measurements. Are you still using the volt 10 for surround and atmos? Do you find they sound lacking in some way in use? I'm a firm believer in good measurements for good performance. For volts, their Strengths lie in their vertical off axis. A HTM as surround would be stellar horizontally, but would be weaker in the vertical pan with the atmos speakers. Appreciate your feedback!
Great theater I liked it very much. Have seen many home theater but yours is awesome can you please suggest the projector, speakers and things.I am building for myself. Love from India.
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for doing theses video's. I watched and followed all your video's and it has really helped me more than you could possibly imagine. I now have the home theater of my dream's and that's all because of your help and advice on what to do and I really appreciate your insight and opinion. I hope whenever you fo sell your home that it will go to someone who can appreciate the work you have done in making your home theater so amazing. Also I really hope you will after you buy your new house that you will do what you did before and create another series on making another home theater. So I hope you will continue to do what you are so good at and that's helping those of us who don't have your knowledge. Good luck and also I promise to keep coming back and sharing your video's with as many people as I possibly can.
Very impressive build you did man, that turned out amazing! Stinks you're selling the place, but hopefully you'll have another blank canvas for the next house. We'll be moving within a year as well most likely so I'll be able to start all over with a dedicated space hopefully. Great choice in table saw btw!

I really like the deep red color of your walls. I understand that some of it is fabric but in the entryway to your theater I’m assuming that’s paint? If you don’t mind could you share with me the manufacturer and name of the color you used? Thank you.
Great theater! Excellent gear and design. Wish I could say the same for my Seatcrafts. I weigh 275 and after only 2 years the seat I always set in is very smashed and I’m so easy on these seats other then me being a big dude. I have JBL.3677s behind my screen. Had them for 5 years now. Yeah that sucks. Have you tried to get them fixed under warranty? I bought an extended warranty on mine for 5 years I think. Those JTRs look awesome. My friend Michael (youthman) was pretty blown away by them recently.
Home Theater Gurus I had sent them pics and they said unfortunately that falls under normal wear and tear. It’s more of a comfort issue than looks but it’s ok. It’s not terrible. Oh cool you know Youthman? He seems like a really really nice guy and I enjoy his passion on his vids. I have JTR subs and LOVE them so much I wanted to go with their mains too.
@@jarodreddig63 yeah he's been a huge help while I was starting up the channel and I've helped him with winisd to test and measure subs he reviews. He was definitely made for the camera and makes really good videos.
Fantastic series on HT design. I spent months researching this type of information and it was brilliantly consolidated here in your channel. 2 questions: what subs did you use? Did you find an issue being so close to the rear wall ? I was told it’s best to be at least 3-4’ from the rear wall / speakers? Secondly ,with the rear wall seating position, is atmos severely effected not being directly under them? The reason I ask is I will have a room roughly these dimensions ( I only want 1 row of seating) so was thinking of putting my screen on the long wall.
The rear wall is around 3.5' away. The atmos are laid out for the back row. With one row of seating you'd be closer than this. If you need assistance I design home theaters. elitehomecinema.sales@gmail.com
Thanks for the tour. I would love your take on advice for building the AT screen: what's recommended and why. I'll be building mine soon. It won't be as elaborate as yours...I have SVS Ultra Towers and Ultra Center for my LCR, and I'll be using 2 full Marty enclosures for my subs, all behind the AT screen. I know towers aren't necessarily the best option for AT screens, and especially a center channel (since it's recommended to have matching LCR speakers), but that's what I have for now. Plans for a video on something like that? You mentioned a future video for a baffle wall, is that what you're getting at?
You're welcome As for advice, towers are actually a better center than a horizontal center. That's why high end theaters always have 3 identical vertical speakers for lcr. I like Seymour material for the diyer. Also check out ep 1 as you mentioned all of those speakers including mains behind an acoustic screen which is a red flag. As for the video on baffle walls it'll be why baffle walls are superior and how they work and manipulate the sound.
@@hometheatergurus Thanks. So would it be better to trade the SVS Ultra Center for another Ultra Tower (to have 3 Ultra Towers for the Left Center and Right)? I'll check out the Seymour material, thanks for recommending! My room will be roughly 11.5'-12' wide (and 26' deep before the AT screen wall addition), and plan to have a 135-150" screen, so I assume most speakers will be behind it or next to it behind transparent material like your subs. I won't know until I finish the room and get exact measurements.
I'd definitely trade the center for another tower. As for screen size I'd use the video on the room mode calculator and ep 1 to help place seats. The width of the room will limit you. With that width let's say the mains are 10 feet apart center of one main to center of the other main. So that puts seats 9 feet back or so from the speaker baffles. See ep 1 for visuals. So if you want a nice big 16:9 screen in the 45 degree range that's around a 100 to 105 inch screen (actual calculations are in my screen size video). That will be ballpark for optimal Soundstage and screen size.
@@hometheatergurus @Adam Netko I'm also considering the same SVS Ultra setup. I reached out to SVS for their recommendation and they were adamant that the Ultra Center would their first choice as center over a tower for a wider dispersion even behind the AT screen. Not sure what to believe at this point.
Well done, very informative, thank you. 1 question: you replaced the SC-1250 speakers with HTM-12's. I know the HTM's are very good speakers, but besides the stage width, how would you compare sound quality difference between the 2? I guess the QSC's reproduce better dialogue and are more dynamic above crossover point?
Thanks. The vocals are every bit as good as the 2150. Both are very smooth and detailed. Dynamics, imaging is all on par as well once crossed to a sub. Neither speaker was pushed in my room and had a ton of headroom so neither had a dynamics advantage. Sure in a real cinema where the htm 12 would be pushed to its limits the 2150 would have the edge. Id personally choose the htm 12 everytime as they're easier to properly place and placement is everything. In huge rooms where the 2150s can properly flank the screen to the desired 60 degrees it's a toss up. The htm 12 will result in better performance and a better overall and larger sound in regular size rooms where the 2150s wouldn't be able to be properly placed. In my room as I want able to flank the screen with the 2150s the htm12s sounded vastly larger with a much wider sound stage. But that was due to placement.
It's about a 5 minute job. Unplug fan Remove cover, unscrew 4 screws holding in fan. Install new fan, splice in wires or if the new fan has a plug that fits plug in onto the board.
Thanks. I sold that house and I'll soon be unveiling the next home theater. As for comb filtering Only when walking front to back if you play pink noise you hear it if you listen for it. When seated each row stays in the same lobe so there's no issues.
Great work! That's a bit disappointing that you're selling it. Good for the new owner though. I wish I could find a house with a built in home theater.
@@hometheatergurus That's great news! Looking forward to the vlog. I'm sure the husband that seen the home was like, "this is the one!" I'll also be moving into a new house soon. Hopefully I can find a great home with space for a dedicated home theater.
@@elongatuspiranha yeah from what I hear they spent an hour in there the first time they saw the house and now their teenage daughter lives in the theater. Hopefully you can find a house with a spare bedroom to turn into one. Even Small rooms can work well if done right.
How is your signal chain to your bass shaker? The reason I’m asking is because I want my shakers to get a flat signal without room correction (eq). Do you use mini DSP to split the output from the receiver to the subs and shakers?
Love your videos! For a 20x12 HT room...2 rows (12ft &18ft) would you recommend Triad Silver LCRs or DIYSG HT10s behind AT screen? Keep in mind that I have to do inwalls (Triads) due to the width limitations (if that matters).
Are your subs stereo integrity HST-18s? If so, im curious how the inuke handled them. Were they dual 1 ohm configuration with a 2 ohm load on each channel? Ive got 2 ordered with a plan to order 2 more, and trying to decide on an amp. Thanks!
Thanks. It's a 1080p projector. But trust me when I build the next one it will have it! I'm too cheap to upgrade such high price gear like a projector until it breaks. :) I do use the Xbox to play 4k disc with atmos. The current theater is being sold as is so all gear stays with the house. So next one I'll be buying new everything including a Sony or jvc 4k projector and a stand alone player.
@@hometheatergurus even if you have a 1080p projector for now, you can still use 4k discs for the lossless Dolby Atmos and DTS: X. Many studios will now only release immersive audio on 4k disc... and you're future proofing your collection. They can't take your discs away, but there are no such assurances with digital streaming or downloads.
I'm guessing a builder/designer would have charged you 20 grand to complete this build out. Gives me hope that I too can do this on a budget my wife will accept!
How's sound leak to the rest of the house when playing at your normal volume (ie decently loud)? Do you have any sound absorption insulation in the walls around the room?
Absorption in the walls does little as sound is transmitted through the studs. We will cover that at some point. That said I used a staggered stud wall design which isolates one side from the other and have fiberglass insulation in the wall as well. You can beat on one side and not hear it on the other due to the staggered stud design. I also did this around the master bedroom. You can be in the theater and know one will even know as long as you don't crank it over - 15. If it's audible in the house it's very loud in the theater room.
165-inch screen... How far away are the front row seats from the screen? Can people actually watch comfortably? Seems like it's too close from the screen.
I have rows at 12 and 16.5 feet back. I sit in the back and from there it's no bigger than a 100 inch from 10 feet. Kids love the front and I actually don't mind scope in the front. . If I sat at 20 feet it would be small. Go check out my video on screen size where I cover viewing angles.
Thanks for the tour! Can you give me more information on your subs? I’m looking to build my own and hide them behind fabric like you did. Thanks for doing the videos, it’s helping me design theater 2.0
You're welcome. For the subs they're 12 cubes tuned for 17hz with stereo intgretiy ht 18 D4 drivers. They're tuned with a natural slight house curve. They're huge and honestly the new theater will have 4 um12s ported or sealed 18s. These boxes are I have now are just so dang big. We will be designing subs on the channel later using winisd which is a free software used to design enclosures. We'll model some drivers, decide on an enclosure that's living room friendly and we'll build it. I'll give subscribers some nice vinyl veneer options then we'll wrap them. It'll be something very nice but not too complicated. We'll also do compression test on it to see how it stacks up against some subs on data bass. Then I'll throw as much power as I can't to it and try and break it.. Fun fun. The build plans will be available to subscribers. Fwiw I've designed subs using the um12 for guys that own Marty subs and they were so impressed they commented they wouldn't have done the huge Marty subs if they had known the um12 in a much smaller box performed so well.
Thanks for the info. I’m planning out a 20x26 room. I currently own 2 HSU 15” subs, but like the vertical enclosure to fit more into the walls and easier to hide. I hope your home sale has gone smoothly. My theater 1.0 in our Houston, TX house was a PITA to sell and explain to buyers, depends on the buyer I guess
Hey that's cool man. New subscriber here. Very informative video's. You going with an OLED set in your new house instead with towers or bookshelves? I'd like to see what you end up getting. No gym?
Thanks. The wife and I are actually back and forth. I plan on having bonus room above the new garage.. Should we go gym and rec room or theater and rec room. Just not sure. As for the living room I have diy towers with module subs so I'll probably diy some larger ones for new living room as enjoy wood working with maybe an 86" TV and full atmos system. Not sure about oled as I'm cheap and can't help it 😜. Same for master bedroom, atmos system with an 82 to 86. So I'll have basically home theater setups in the living room and master. We dont use the theater as much as we used to. But I do enjoy the design and build phase tremendously.
That's the room "shell" itself so yeah the acoustics and fabric take up another 2" on each side. Of course under the chair rail it's back to visible sheet rock.
@@hometheatergurus That's the thing I don't understand is what's important about viewing angles??? Is that a real thing? For instance - When I go to the local Movie Theater in Springfield, Illinois at the AMC Theater I always sit in the very back row. The reasoning behind that is whenever I sit like in the middle of the Theater I have a hard time seeing over the person in front of Me. If I sit in the second row my neck hurts from looking up.
What were the dimensions on that room I also heard on the video that you design. Room that's only for you or would you do it for someone like me for the right price not ready yet to pull the plug but when I'm ready are you available to do something like that I kind of like the way your room was but I want to do a opposite entrance from the front not from the back it will be 10 foot ceilings more likely 150 in 16 by 9 screen transparent keeping my SVS Ultra 16 Subs have two of them right now and more likely getting two more subs don't know if I should go with the same ones or possible jtr subs I'm between two speakers company rbh si831r in wall or thx kef in wall speakers reference

Did you get the Seatcraft seats with the bass shakers installed? Somehow I doubt it but thought I'd ask since they offer them installed.
I installed them myself. Dayton BST 1
Wow!! Did you do most of the building yourself? Look grate.
Thanks. Besides carpet, yep I took it from sheet rock to what you see now.
Where are you grounding your equipment too? Awesome theater btw
I've always wanted to run a pro amp on my subs but didn't want the fan noise. So what does the fan mod entail???
It's about a 5 minute job. Unplug fan Remove cover, unscrew 4 screws holding in fan. Install new fan, splice in wires or if the new fan has a plug that fits plug in onto the board.
Great video. With your dual side surrounds wired in parallel, do you notice any comb filter effect with it?
Thanks.
I sold that house and I'll soon be unveiling the next home theater.
As for comb filtering Only when walking front to back if you play pink noise you hear it if you listen for it.
When seated each row stays in the same lobe so there's no issues.
Nice theater man! Thanks for sharing. Are you building a theater in next house because once you have a theater room it's hard not too.
Yeah I think so. I plan to but we don't use it as much as we used to. Kinda back and forth. Definitely will have a living room and bedroom system.
Great work! That's a bit disappointing that you're selling it. Good for the new owner though. I wish I could find a house with a built in home theater.
We sold it December 30th. Definitely miss the theater. I'll be building another house soon with another theater which I'll log on the channel.
Very nice room !!!
Where did you bought the chers ?
Thanks.
I bought them here

How is your signal chain to your bass shaker? The reason I’m asking is because I want my shakers to get a flat signal without room correction (eq). Do you use mini DSP to split the output from the receiver to the subs and shakers?
I use sub out # 2 for the shakers. This room has no room correction being used other than the mindsp on the subs.
Wow.. frightening
Love your videos! For a 20x12 HT room...2 rows (12ft &18ft) would you recommend Triad Silver LCRs or DIYSG HT10s behind AT screen? Keep in mind that I have to do inwalls (Triads) due to the width limitations (if that matters).
Assuming you're in the front as you'll need to be to get a nice sound stage in a room with that width I'd go Triad. The silver lcr is great!
@@hometheatergurus Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time out to reply!👍🏾
What power conditioner are using with your equipment? I am in the market for one and any recommendations would be helpful.
Are your subs stereo integrity HST-18s? If so, im curious how the inuke handled them. Were they dual 1 ohm configuration with a 2 ohm load on each channel? Ive got 2 ordered with a plan to order 2 more, and trying to decide on an amp. Thanks!
Those are ht 18s version 1, not hst. They have d4 coils wired for 2 ohms. It handled them with ease.
Selling it just he could build another one, nice
Well I didn't sell for that reason but it's a nice benifit. Although I did love this room.
Great theater, but you REALLY need to get a 4k Blu-ray player for the best and most immersive audio content and improved picture quality.
Thanks.
It's a 1080p projector. But trust me when I build the next one it will have it!
I'm too cheap to upgrade such high price gear like a projector until it breaks. :)
I do use the Xbox to play 4k disc with atmos.
@@dan_hitchman007 guess you missed the comment above but I do use 4k disc for the atmos.
Awesome 👍👌😊
Nice
Thanks Tim!
What material are you using on your walls, spandex?
I used DMD acoustically transparent fabric.
@@hometheatergurus thanks bro. I can also use that material to fill in areas on my screen wall that is covered by my screen.
Do you have a avs forum thread build page ?
Yep.
www.avsforum.com/forum/19-dedicated-theater-design-construction/2023753-another-build-thread-no-name.html
@@jeremytews3006 Wow that's a huge room. As for the house it looks like it'll be sold in December. Hopefully no huccups.
@@hometheatergurus Thanks for responding. I have a 20+ year old NHT speaker system and been thinking about upgrading like you're doing.
How high above seated ear level are you surrounds ?
About 6"
Is that 16’ before or after fabric?
That's the room "shell" itself so yeah the acoustics and fabric take up another 2" on each side. Of course under the chair rail it's back to visible sheet rock.
How much for the house
We sold it in December.
If the room is big enough I would LOVE to have a Screen that's between 200"-300" 16:9 Aspect Ratio Fixed Frame.
Yeah that would be cool but you'd have to sit so far back to get the viewing angle watchable. It would be cool when you walked in though.
@@hometheatergurus Well yeah. But I'm not like most guys. I LOVE the Big Screen feel like the closest thing to a Real Movie Theater feel and Screen.
@@vestel777 yep it's definitely preference. I like a 45 degree viewing angle personally.
@@vestel777 viewing angles are everything. That's what determines immersion.
Watch episode 13 and I have visuals.
How much was the total cost?
Post bare sheet rock around 19k. Keep in mind I enjoy diy so I did it all myself except carpet.
That room was 16x21.5 with 10'4" ceilings.
As for room consultation yes I do offer that. See my latest videos for contact info in the description.
