Great video! had mine since last week and haven't even had a chance to look at it! got to love a classic. I don't believe I've ever seen Psycho 4 actually so first time for everything.
I hesitated buying this set as I'd heard there were one or two issues with the 4K Psycho II, specifically during the opening titles where the transition from the past (black and white) to the present (colour) over a shot of the Bates house isn't seamless as it should be due to some kind of error on Arrow's part. I'm not sure of the technicalities but clearly you didn't find anything amiss. Anyway the set is sold out now so I guess I'll have to settle for the Blu-ray edition of the set for the book etc and then upgrade to the individual 4K releases at a later date if I fancy. Gotta say I love Jerry Goldsmith's score for the second film, to me it had a nice sad melancholy style that seemed to fit with Norman in this sequel. As much as I love the iconic Herrmann score from the original, I was always glad they didn't reuse it here, this was a different film which needed a new sound I feel. Each to their own😊. However I do agree with you 100% on the weird casting choice of Olivia Hussey in Psycho IV, she was totally wrong for this part. I enjoy her in the 1968 Romeo and Juliet, also Black Christmas, but as Mrs Bates she was miscast, I don't know who thought that was a good idea. In any case the overall film was pretty poor as you say. I also never was very keen on Psycho III, it went into odd directions and not very persuasively. All a bit tacky and low budget. At least we have the classic original and the excellent second film to enjoy for all time. Thanks for the informative video, great channel 👍
LOL.. I've never understood daytime for nighttime shots either. Very strange technique. I might pick this up on a sale. I would love to dive in to the special features.
Great review, love this set, but just a correction. Psycho 4 was originally on Showtime, I watched it when it came on, so the TV aspect ratio is the original format. The wudescreen version was done later on. I am in the minority as someone who liked Psycho 4. Her British accent never bothered me as the voice of mother was never actually her. Vera Farmiga is a better Norma Bates but still enjoy it.
@@DivorcedDadShow that was part of the story, it doesn't pretend like another film didn't happen which is what a retcon actually does. Like Scream 3 revealing Sidney's brother was the catalyst that ultimately started the Ghostface killings. It doesn't change what happened in the original film just added to it. The Psycho 3 reveal added to the lore of the Bates family. I'm not sure though why you bring up Psycho 3 though. If it's about the voice, the only voice we've ever heard was Norman's voice for Mother, that's not her actual voice

When you say Jerry goldsmith score sounded more fantasy like….. they used a lot of the score in the Tom cruise movie Legend

Gus Van Sant's 1998 take on the material is sorely missing in this set.
I didn't buy this box set but bought the other Arrow box set that includes the sequels only. I didn't buy the original because of the price
