- We are live from the Pittsburgh Steelers Draft party. Cam Heyward opens the show discussing the Steelers off season signings with Jaylen Warren. Then welcomes center Zach Frazier (24:35) to the stage to talk about the time Zach broke his leg but managed to not use an injury timeout. The guys then react live to the selection of Mason McCormick. (30:25) First-round draft pick Troy Fautanu and third-round pick Payton Wilson sit down with Cam to talk about what it is like to be a Pittsburgh Steeler. Roman Wilson (44:08) sits down to talk Michigan, playing for coach Harbaugh, and what it means to be a Pittsburgh wide receiver.

He's too busy practicing to be a kick returner. Jesus H. Christ, what has Matt Eberflus _done_ to him? The players obviously can't say this so I will: the Bears, Poles & Eberflus *deliberately sabotaged Fields* in order to have an excuse to move on from him & draft Caleb.
While I was hoping that this didn't ruin Fields mentally or emotionally, if the Steelers are asking him to field kickoffs, he should tell them that if they don't want him to start to trade him to a team that does. Except that coaches & GMs are no less probe to believing social media BS than the fan base is & blame his lack of success on him.
Let's review _HOW_ wrong all of this is, shall we?
1) He made the Bears the #1 offense in the NFL for 3 weeks straight _BEFORE_ they acquired D.J. Moore.
2) Seeing this success, Eberflus cancelled *all* the plays that led to it.
3) When Fields first started staring at instead of passing to *open receivers* (around week 4 of '22) the haters all _said_ "The Bears had to do this to simplify the offense for him." So at the time *everyone **_KNEW_* that the Bears *ordered him to* not throw to certain receivers on certain plays even if that was the only receiver who got open.
I'm not nearly done yet. You know _how_ everyone knew? This sudden tendency appeared out of nowhere yet 4) Not One Staffer On The Bears thought to take him into concussion protocol? That made it clear he was executing those plays As Called.
5) If anyone asks, I'll link a video of typical o-line play by the Bears. While on other teams, an o-linesman making contact with a pass-rusher but failing to stop them is considered a bust, Bears o-linesmen *don't even **_MAKE_** contact_* with the defenders that come after Fields. Did I mention that Eberflus decides what plays to limit the offense to?
He meddles in o-line play as well & it shows.
So, to recap, Fields made a team with no receivers gaining separation the #1 offense for 3 weeks straight with an o-line that didn't block & an HC that called plays *designed to* totally undermine his ability to pass the ball. Yet everyone thinks he's a bust now or should contribute more.
By returning kicks. Watch; He'll get injured on the first such play & never play again. He has less luck & support than anyone in the NFL, even from his own teams.

@@choosecarefully408 Brother, I believe in Justin Fields. When we picked up Mitch Trubisky I was saying back then, we traded for the wrong Chicago QB, it should have been Justin Fields.
Justin will make a good case in the pre-season but.... will Mike Tomlin only let him take snaps with the 2nd and 3rd teams like he did Mason Rudolf last year. Mason should have been QB2 instead of Mitch because I could see he was more poised and better in the preseason games.
Anyway, I think Justin will be the starter by mid-season but it's going to be tough because Russel Wilson will have flashes of greatness and he's already proven as a starting QB from his Seattle days. I don't wish injury on anybody but I think that's what it's going to take for Justin to get a fair shake during the season. No matter how great he is in training camp and season practices, he's not going to get the reigns unless Russ stinks or gets an injury.
@@Solo_01 I feel like Charlie Brown because everything goes in the direction of my worst fears. I'm not sure Tomlin _or_ Smith have the ability to assess QB talent. Haven't Josh McDaniels & Brandon Staley proven that horribly unqualified candidates get hired in the NFL? As you point out, Tomlin kept going back to Trubisky when he had Rudolph who proved much better.
Smith too. In TN he had one RB, one WR & one QB. He went to ATL & seemed to confuse himself as to what to do on almost every play.
When Mariota kept missing on timing throws, Smith literally looked unconcerned on the sideline. When Ridder would do something, he acted like a Keystone Coach. He gave me the feeling that he would call for 'Route A' but not tell the receiver which way to turn on it, & also didn't think to practice it beforehand.
Neither give me confidence that they'll _see_ what's wrong with Russ any more than Smith could see what he himself was doing incorrectly in ATL. I'm analytical. I came across people who looked things up. Russ has led the league in passes behind the line of scrimmage going on Five Years now. So it's not like he's great but had two years of bad coaching.
He doesn't look at the middle of the field. This isn't the "ha, he won't be able to see it" meme from the beginning of his career.
He looks at the ground near his feet when he swivels his head away from the sidelines. That's not coaching. It's how he has developed a habit to deal with what he doesn't try to do anymore. I think that Carroll covered for this as long as he could then realized he couldn't, & the Broncos had no idea. But it's not coaching.
Ah well. Wait & see.

Jaylen Warren is mad cool. He's the kind of guy who should really be a Steeler for life. I know we declined Najee's option, so I'm guessing Najee hits free agency and we extend Warren and get another back to form a committee with him. Love our rookies. I think we got some real ballers. The talent that was acquired in the 2024 draft is simply amazing. I cant believe we got Zach Frazier and Payton Wilson where we got them. I thought for sure both players would be long gone long before we had any chance of getting them.

as a Steeler fan for like what? 50 yrs. One thing I can say about Steeler players is that they are accessible. I've met quite a few players over the yrs who were cool as hell and will actually talk to you. sooo cool to be a life long fan. Thank you Steelers for drafting Champions and good people.

When does he start talking about Fields at Kick return?
I hope Fields serves his one year with this team and moves to a team that will use him as a QB. What low regard this coaching staff has on for Fields if this is even discussed. I get the Steelers are a historical franchise but so are the Cowboys and both are living off reputation. Steelers pay their players $120,000,000 less than the franchise that pays the most. Not wanting to pay a top 6 RB, $7 million is crazy. With the NIL taking off in college most of these players will come to the NFL as millionaires. Steelers are going to have to start paying players at some point. There is a reason Steelers lose their top offensive players all the time and they haven't won a playoff game going on 9 years now.

I feel like that’s not the only reason is because of the money, I’m sure he felt disrespected by the ravens not wanting to pick up his 5th year option up and giving roquan a huge contract after trading for him. So why not go to a rival that your going to see 1-2 games a year a prove they messed up Patrick has a new opportunity to prove how good he could be without having to be the shadow guy behind roquan, I’m pumped what he can bring to this defense he’s going to be playing with a chip on his shoulder and vengeance when it comes to those steelers and raven games 💪🖤💛
