    What about in northern climates? Freezing pipes etc.
    but great for pure water. Our supplier acknowledged issues in our drinking water. A carbon filter can take care of it and would be cheaper anyway. But give it time. A great emergency system if they can get the price down

  • @chiraldude

    I bought a whole house water softener plus a reverse osmosis filter for drinking water. (Includes multiple activated carbon filters) This will clean up even the worst city or well water anywhere in the USA. Combined cost about $1200. Typical city water even in a desert community is about a penny per gallon.
    Why would anyone install one of these? Maybe somewhere in Africa? Somewhere that the water supply is toxic due to a chemical spill?
    Interesting technology but so few piratical applications.

    $2000? 2 gallons a day? filtered water costs .20 a gallon in AZ. payback: $2000 divided by $.40 = 13 years payback. and that's if you buy filtered water.

      13 year payback on a system designed for 10 years lifespan. At price parity, this produces water 30% more expensive.

    Very cool for the right market, but this has absolutely no value for the average house. Water is typically clean, safe, and incredible inexpensive. Volumes of drinking water is literally insignificant in cost. They would be better served by putting in a 5 stage reverse osmosis system for about $200~ instead of $5,000.

      I hear it can cost as much as 200$ in some cases.

    • @CasuallyObservant

      @@chaosking911 - Ha ha. This was in the hot desert that is Phoenix, AZ where I live. We get maybe 7 inches of rain per year, over a total of ten days. The rest of the 355 days a year - zip, nada, nothing. The majority of the houses don't even bother with a rain gutter - no need. All those trees in the picture? They'd be dead without underground sprinklers, drip lines and bubblers. We all have them at every house and we have programmable timers to put the right amount of water where we need it.
      My cost of water per month to pay for watering the lawn and trees (a 10,600 sf lot), supply my swimming pool with replacement water after evaporation, and for my normal household uses = $190.00 - $250.00 per month depending on the time of year. Caveat: this also includes a trash pickup and sewer charge which are fixed, regardless. If this unit could pay for enough water to keep my pool full and my lawn and trees watered, that would be awesome.
      I wonder what the units cost and how much each produces? Anyone know?

    A couple of gallons a day regardless of the humidity level? It wouldn’t make more in Tennessee than it does in Phoenix? That technology has a ways to go before the cost/benefit value makes it worthwhile. Until then I think filtration has this beat by a significant margin.

      ChaosKing I think you’re using data from the past. Solar and battery efficiencies have drastically increased in the last few years. Depending on application, they are already cost effective. Certainly not for everything, but the advances in the tech sector are closing the gap at a much faster rate than before.

    $3 for 2.5-gallons at Walmart
    0.5-gallons per day per person.
    Average house has about 3-people.
    1.5-gallons drinking water per house per day.
    10.5-gallons per week.
    This is about four 2.5-gallon water containers.
    This is $12 per week per house for drinking water.
    This $624 per year per house for drinking water.
    This thing pays for itself in less than four years for a $2,000 unit.
    That is a good ROI.
    Plus it saves me from buying, lugging, and throwing all the water containers.
    I want one for my RV 😎.

    How does it handle freezing temperatures? How much water can one unit collect in a dry climate... does it get more in humid?

    • @ZeoCyberG
      @ZeoCyberG 6 років тому +1

      Considering it heats the air, it should handle cold temperatures pretty well...
      Otherwise, it should follow similar rules as other atmospheric generators. So volume of air and humidity level will effect output. Just minus the huge energy bill...
      But, in particular cold regions that doesn't get much sun you may need to add a heater to help heat the air, as this system is limited to where solar thermal will work...

    • @chaosking911
      @chaosking911 6 років тому

      This technology is rubbish for very hot or very cold places.
      All you need is look at the cells they are using and realize their inability to produce electricity at non optimal mild climate.

    • @ZeoCyberG
      @ZeoCyberG 6 років тому +4

      Uh, no... Doesn't work like that... This isn't a solar electric system, it only has a solar PV panel for running the electronics that control the system and monitors its performance.
      Solar thermal with heat pumps is a different technology from solar PV... It's channeling both ambient and heat from the sun for heating the air and that means it can work in a very wide range of climates as it's conditioning the air to always be in the optimal range to draw moisture from it...
      The actual limit of the system is places where it may not get enough sun to provide enough heat but heat pumps means any other heat source can be used or you can simply scale it larger as with enough surface area even very little sun can still provide enough heat.
      While the electronics monitor the temperature and control the heat to keep it at the optimal range.

    No, this is not a scam. However, this is EXTREMELY niche. In MOST situations, this makes zero sense. Certain specific parts of airzona are where it MIGHT make sense, but it is still a bit of a crap shoot. This is much better than the solar water generators you see on kickstarters, but even much better doesn't make it economically feasible if a better/cheaper source of water is nearby.

      Add the cost of hooking up water to your house initially, plus monthly water bills, plus the (mostly unseen) costs of the added neurological poison (fluoride), plus the other poisons in municipal water, plus filthy water mains, plus chances of water supply interruption by natural disasters, etc. Supply your own, eliminate the questionable profit oriented middleman. People seem to forget that their water comes from the SEWER DEPARTMENT.

    this would be nice, but according to there website a pair of these panels make an avg of 5-8l per day of water in most of the united states (production based on climate)in the avg home each person uses 380l per day of water, and the avg household uses 900l per day of water that means that to supply a standard household with a normal amount of water you would need you would need aprox 225 panels- each panel costs $2000 (not including install) that works out to $45000 VS the $5-7000 cost of a well, plus in poor nations where wells are to expensive how is this going to help, per l of water this is far more expensive in almost any climate.

    • @cageordie
      @cageordie 6 років тому +2

      Hmm, they quoted me twice that price in California. And I am pretty sure I could make one that works better for under $1000, and I'd rather just use a $200 RO water filter with a $70 pressure pump on the condensate pouring out of my house heat pump most of the year.

      I'm not going to go so far as to claim it's a scam just yet but I do have my doubts about desert air being able to produce drinking water in enough quantity to be useful.
      Also I don't think the water is going to be very clean when you are taking it unfiltered from an atmosphere that has dust, pollen, mold, mildew, and other stuff in the air.

    • @ZeoCyberG
      @ZeoCyberG 6 років тому +5

      No, this is a different system, it costs to install but the solar thermal and solar PV means it powers itself and it works throughout the whole day for continuous output as long as the sun is out. So the only long term costs on this one is maintenance.
      Output is still limited but it's a lot more than fog catchers can output.
      While the only danger is if you're in an area where there is pollution in the air but you can easily just add a water filter to the system. Just like any other water catchment system, like from rain, rivers, etc.
      Systems can also be scaled if you need more, but the point is to be able to get water where you otherwise can't. Even a little can be the difference between living and death...
      It's just not intended to replace regular sources of water where they exist, just places where you can't easily have access to water and alternatives like rain catchment won't suffice and there's no option to dig a well, etc...
      Besides, you should be careful of any water source and not assume any one is safer than the other...
      Examples like Flint Michigan with their lead issue and the chemicals and drugs that find their way into our tap water in many parts of the country... Even bottle water isn't always as safe as it should be all the time...
      So good to consider filtering just about everything you are going to drink...
