"Remember When"
The Older I Get. It fits so well now that I pass 50 and the sad state of the country.

Today’s country music is essentially “lipstick on a pig”. That man speaks the truth because he IS the truth
Lipstick on a Pig sounds like a song about Marren Morris.

I'm so glad someone in country music finally speaks out about the music they are playing today and calling it country music. Thank you Alan! True country music tells a story, this stuff today has no heart.
We grew up on the old Country Music. You could understand what they were singing. We want to see it back! We love you Alan. Keep up your good work!
I definitely agree with Alan that country music isn’t what it used to be and I’m sad about it. There is nothing better than hearing some of the original old country songs from some of the best recording artists.
I like what Mr. Jackson said. He's absolutely right. There really has been murder on music row.
Thank you Mr. Jackson! We don;t need woke in country music.
yes, but I would add - it is widespread across all areas of our lives. Education, music, movies, sports, US culture. All infiltrated with a SICKNESS. Sometimes getting over a sickness is tough and painful, but the outcome (the cure) is SO worth it.

Country music isn’t dead, your just not going to hear it on the radio anymore.
The big labels are going to try and kill it, just like they did with rock & roll
Rock & Roll isn’t dead either. The real music regardless of genre is still out there, but as you said your not going to hear it on the radio.
Colter Wall
The radio is dieing, too. Everything is going digital and streaming on line. I'm glad I still have my old recordings (of various sorts) to listen to without all the phoney "must buy" commercials. Alan, you're still cool with me!
@@mikemcgown6362 I live in Kentucky we have a station that plays old country songs that's all I listen to
Yeah, Rock is pretty much gone too. Who would have thought. Real blues is gone too. With Otis Redding, The Temptations, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, blues was in its glory. The movie "The Commitments" is a tribute to blues music. It is the story of kids in England (or Ireland, I forget) who form a blues band and has come great covers of American blues music. Check it out it is a great movie.
I couldn’t agree more, the thing that makes you even angrier is the fact that there’s a big fan base for traditional country and a lot of good artists out there but Nashville keeps them pushed out and off the radio. People really need to walk away from the radio and invest in independent artists and send a message. I don’t understand why stars like Alan and George strait and all these big artists haven’t made their own label and started giving real country artists a chance to be heard
Nashville is not the place to do country music anymore. Older artists are pushed out and forgotten.
That sounds like an awesome idea. 👍
"I don't think Hank done it this way"
Wouldnt that be awesome? A new label for new true Country artists to have their music recorded and heard. A label just for them,by those who know what true Country really is. To have a chance to bring it all back. The sound and the feel of it. What a wonderful thing.
IT SUCKS!!!! Today's country singer would not know a country song if walked up and kissed them. What junk they try to pass as country today for the almighty DOLLAR!!!!!

I am 74 years old and have loved country my entire life. I don't think real Country Music will ever come back. Song writers or Country Artist have not lived it to truly sing it or write it anymore.!!
Play any of the following... Flatland Cavalry, Tyler, Whiskey Myers, Panhandlers, Josh Abbot, Randy Rogers, Ryan Bingham, Wade Bowen, Cody Jinks, Turnpike, Steel Woods ... You can’t go wrong!!
I'm 74 also "country cousin" and you hit the nail right on the head. I love sitting on the porch and strumming a few good old country songs, but what I hear on the radio and tv today ain't country. All fabricated, not lived.
I have heard many people say that back in the day singers and song writers had something different from time to time. Now it seems most all songs you hear the same words. I think they are only dreaming they could be real country. I think it is more about being sexy. George Jones didnt come on to people while on stage. He had more respect.
Exactly..
I am 75 and agree, it is sad but at least we have the recordings. My son is 41 and hates the new stuff. As a hobby he still writes traditional country and plays and sing it. Maybe there is hope.
Livin On Love comes to mind but he’s never recorded a bad song I love all of them!!!!❤️❤️❤️
I so much respect Alan Jackson and the fact he has stayed true to country music. I don’t listen to the radio anymore because who ever is setting up the playlist doesn’t play any real country music. When Alan’s album came out Where Have You Gone I downloaded and played it all of the time.

One of the best comments I've heard on mainstream country, came from the late great Tom Petty, he said when asked what his views were on modern country music, "modern country is nothing but bad rap lyrics with banjos"
EPIC!
Country Music has a fiddle and a steel guitar. Bring those back !

If you would, search UA-cam for Rob Talbot Never Not Love You and let me know what you think. Admittedly no fiddles or steel guitar, mainly because when we recorded it we didn't have access to and because we didn't want it to be over produced. I recently began a new career as a country music lyricist and I understand EXACTLY what Mr Jackson is referencing. I’m 63 and grew up in the woods of upstate New York with my parents who played Real Country music on the “Hi-fi” as it was called back then. I grew up listening to Porter Wagoner, Loretta Lynn, Faron Young, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard and many more, watched Hee Haw every Saturday night too. I want to do my part to revive Country Music, as I write songs about love, breakups, drinking to excess, horses, sunsets and more. I am collaborating with another fellow here in Austin, TX and will be submitting several songs to Nashville soon.
Wish us luck?
When I was 17 or 18 I listened to Travis Tritt “Here’s a quarter, call someone who cares” and from that point on I was hooked on Waylon, George Jones and Strait you name it. Jon Pardi, Chris Janson, Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton and Justin Moore are awesome along with Frank Foster, Buddy Brown and some people who play at Alan’s bar.
Chris Stapleton and Luke Combs are both overrated, plus they're playing into our society's cancel culture....
I was raised on 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's country, After the 90's country music turned into garbage. There's very little I even like anymore. With the garbage we have now, the legends are flipping in their graves.
@@davidahart2476 Mid to late 90's is when it changed for me. My Father was a contractor and a preacher. I learned through hard knocks as I am stubborn ...a lot. Not in any way a professional in any type of work but a young man that knows a lot about some things. No one builds a house on sand. Basic knowledge in life is you build on a great foundation. I am truly not a professional at anything. Time is a precious gift that God has given us. Free will God gave us .What will we do with that in our short lives. I went on a unrelated subject because I wanted you to know a little about me. Sad songs and life no one wants to hear. ITS ALRIGHT TO BE A LITTLE BITEE. I have never had the pleasure of seeing you in concert and maybe I never will. Make your voice LOUD and keep doing what you do ...sir. I remember the day true country died. 1990 Garth Brooks released Friends in low Places. He and Shinia Twain destroyed the honorable music called country music. I can go on and on but PLEASE KEEP FIGHTING for us Mr. Jackson. P.S I'm excited to see Sammy Kershaw coming to Reno Nevada November 30th and I am lucky enough to actually work were he is preforming. And the Wabash Cannonball
Who's gonna give their heart and soul
To get to me and you
Lord I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes
damn good song right there
There is an artist out there that has that raw country old feel and he is doing really well. He has been offered many contracts but refuses to sign to any till he finds one that allows him to be him. He even sings about all of the country greats in his songs and respects what real country was and should be. This man is Jacob Bryant. We really need to give him more love and to give more artists like him wanting to bring country back a good chance.
@@brentunderwood7600 That's the first song that came to my mind! Who's gonna fill their shoes? Bands like Dixie Chicks, Shania Twain, LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts, and The Band Perry along with many others have changed the look and sound of country music. Let's get back to what it was!
It's the same as George Jones aka "The Possum" song "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" ... Alan I hope you can help bring back real country music. There are a lot of people out there that sing good, but they don't have the HEART that goes into the song too touch you and truly feel the song, the kind that stays with you for a life time 2 cords and your heart knows the song, that's Real Country!!!
Big fan for years, cause you to tell it & sing it like it is.
Thank You for all the wonderful music over the years. 👏❣
I’m a 20 year old kid and I want steel guitars and fiddles. Guys my age like me don’t want this pop country clap track trash.
I'm 42 and I def don't want no damn Steal guitars or trash ass fiddles..
You could call him the "old" guy next door yelling keep those kids off my lawn...but he's not wrong, he's dead on right down to those instruments adding to the emotion. New country...“soulless.”
Genuineness of Country Music, Never will fade. After All, Music City Nashville is main tourist destination for Country Music 🎶 🎵 👌
I agree. I've been saying this for a while now. If I wanted hip hop, I'd listen to it. Country needs to play for it's base, not pander to new listeners. Or try to "keep up". It's it's own thing, and needs to be PROUD of that.
Check these gents out, it will make you proud: Sturgill Simpson. Aaron Lewis. Brian Kelly. Tyler Childers. Colter Wall. Luke Bell. Red Shahan. Charley Crockett. Ryan Bingham. Joshua Hedley. Greensky Bluegrass. Infamous Stringdusters. BJ Barham. Alex Williams. Brent Cobb. Dallas Moore. Justin Townes Earle (RIP my dude). Ross Cooper. Prinz Grizzley. Jeremy Pinnell. Mike and the Moonpies. Dillon Carmichael. Cody Jinks. Paul Cauthen. Pat Reedy and the Longtime Goners. Maybe Allen aint looking in the right place because Outlaw Country is damn alive and doing well.
We have country music stars going "woke" and apologizing for being a free American. It's tough listening to country radio today. Something's missing.
Exactly some of these so called "country" stars are not even remotely country, and would die of starvation if you dropped them off at the lease. Bunch of actors selling out for every nickle they can scrounge. What they have done to our country, and they get away with it because they're rich. And people will surrender all their pride for a few dollars. They're rich, because they got to make a system, with the federal reserve, that makes inflation go up every single year, to the point no one can afford the basics of modern living, without taking on decades long loans to do so. We're all life long interest slaves to the bankers, and they're using that money and power to try and change everything about this country. If you can't see it your blind, hell your own country "stars" do not sound like us at all, they've been so corrupted by the system. If they've corupted them, how do you think the rest of the country looks?
EXACTLY!!! What's missing is, their own love of GOD and COUNTRY!!! They're nothing but FAILED pop stars, singing "other people's" stories, and getting play on so-called country music stations because, their families have PAID for it!!!
everything that country stands for...
@@brianpenland973 I dont mean to rant, don't take my comment as an insult. Maybe it shouldnt be directed at you, and should just be a general comment on this great song by Alan Jackson.
I do agree that modern pop country is terrible.
The factors that pushed it to this place are very complex. The rap influence came with generational pandering. "If we make it more rap'ish, the kids will buy it". As far as "God and country" being missing, I just dont see it. As conservative, white, America has lurched to the right, they subsequently narrowed their definition of American freedom. To the detriment of artistic expression in almost all forms, but specifically in country music.
From what I cant tell, there is plenty of "good" pandering in pop country. To the exact "God and country" crowd your looking for. If you turn on FM country station. Every other song is about the flag and Jesus. In between rap songs about the flag and Jesus. With a rap song about beer and trucks sprinkled in for good measure.
Seems kinda like pandering to a certain demographic IS the problem with country today.
The pandering stifles creativity. Mix that with overtly reactionary impulses, means any real country is labeled as "woke", or progressive. Just because they dont kiss the right ass. Or theres a lyric about some real shit, that makes people uncomfortable.
The fact is, there is plenty of great country music out there. It will not be fed to you by a corporate overlord. You have to do the work, and interact with the music. And yes, it might mean having uncomfortable conversations.
yeah talent
Over the years, country music has strayed from tradition, but it always seems to return to its roots led by a vanguard of diehards such as “The Outlaws” (Willie, Waylon and Hank Jr.) back in the 1970s, or Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, and Dwight Yoakam in the 1980s/1990s. Thanks to musicians like these, real country music will never die!
Agree 100%! Country music today is not at all like I remember as a kid when we used to listen to "The Opre" on radio every Saturday night.
If you haven't listened to cody jinks, give him a listen. He's what we are missing.
I'll give him a listen and get back to you on that. In all due respect to you, I'm not holding my breath but I'll give him a fair listen
Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton and Tyler Childers. Some Kentucky boys keepin it country. You won't hear good country on the top 40 radio.
@@michaelhiggins3786 that's all I ask lol. He's not pop country.
Cody is damn good. You should hear, "It damn sure ain't Merle" by Creed Fisher
@@derkwayne1833 Chris Stapleton sucks all his music sounds the same like Luke combs.
I totally agree!
100% agree. The 'old guard' music is all but gone. Why do the powers-that-be in the entertainment (motion pictures included) industry always fixate singularly on drawing the young audience? There is a huge population here and around the world who are 50+ yrs old, who still hold onto their love for the old time/classic sound. Additionally, I'm sure there are many in the generation of 50 and younger who also love the old sound. We miss seeing you perform on tv; George J, George S, Tammy, Hank Sr. and Jr., Vince, Merle, Alan, Buck, Mel, Alabama, Statler Bros., Oak Ridge Boys, Conway, Loretta, those that go even further back, etc., etc., and so very many more whose vocal and song writing talents were the real deal in authentic country music. 'New Country' artists, take note: please listen to these golden era treasures and know that there's still an audience out here for that beautiful sound.
Three Chords and the Truth 🎶
The state of country music today?? I’ll let Creed Fisher tell it... “It Damn Sure Ain’t Merle”
Right on Alan everybody likes the truth brother.....
The contribution that you gave to country music it just don't get any better and I want to thank you Alan..
How about It all you country people.....
