This to That: Carding a hand-dyed braid to create a semi-woollen fibre prep

  • Today I’m trying something new again on my drum carder - taking a combed top fibre braid and carding it to hopefully do a semi-woollen spun yarn! I experimented with 3 different ways to load the fibre onto the carder but didn’t find much visible difference in the batts.
    This braid is 100% untreated Cormo I bought from Myrtle Yarn (links below!) in her colourway Incognito.

    I think what you did is such a good way to learn more about carding. I tend to paint on a braid when I want a more fluffy prep but also blend the colors just a bit. If I’m going for a blend of different fibers I put them through the licker in(small drum), and yes the big drum is called the swift.🥰

      @@deejcarter2003 so interesting, thanks for sharing! When you paint the braid on the swift do you break off sections or do it as one long continuous piece?
