    54 feet of water and 54 degrees. Fish were taken off a commercial boat and no fishing regulations were broken.

      @@danmacmahon3973 that's awesome! My friend is an offshore guide out of hudson and he has spots just like this one... where the gags are stacked deep and eat everything in sight. Most are 6-12lbs with some bigger ones mixed in. Cool to see what these spots look like underwater. I'm hoping to get into spearfishing myself. Going to start off shallow and work my way up. As always I enjoyed the video. Your deep dives are insane the way the fish just swim over to check you out.

      @@danmacmahon3973 I noticed that you aren't swimming all that far, once you hit the bottom, Sooo many targets... I've normally needed to cover a lot of ground, and suck a lot more air. -I've also noticed on some of the deep dives, you're REALLY low on air, for the amt of bottom time. I think I saw under 1000, on a 6-10 min dive! I was shocked how quick it went. and knew you still had to do some stops. you diving HP steels 120's, w/ 4000 psi to start? my deepest was 165', and bottom time was 6 min.. off WPB. didn't think it was worth it. but nobody was home either...

    There was a TV show on spearing on west coast. Discovery channel, mby last year? where you on it? IIRC, they slept on the boat, and did 3 day trips. is that pretty much how it goes? how many divers/boat? night dives? looks like you could fish too. or its strictly spearing? do you fill tanks aboard? Thanks, enjoy the videos.. brings back fond memories..

    • @danmacmahon3973

      MrB, yes, I met with the producer but I wasn't interested after hearing details about his ideas for the show. We did host Sheri Daye and "Speargun Hunter" for several 3 day trips. We usually do 2-4 day trips with 3-5 divers. I used to night dive on a regular basis, but with the explosion locally in Bull Shark numbers, I don't do it anymore. We hardly ever fish but occasionally will drop a line. No, I fill my tanks at my shop and have never utilized an on board compressor. Glad you're enjoying the videos! Best, Dan

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 роки тому

      Hey John, sometimes I will but it's usually in the form of a double tap if I fail to stone the fish with the first shot. In deeper stuff, it's just a matter of time management, pulling the knife, then positioning the fish correctly, dispatching the fish with the first application of the knife, putting the knife back, it all adds up to time. I will do it occasionally when the situation calls for it. Best, Dan

      In the video they do. Camera isn´t like your eyes. Even in not so clear water 30 ft is normal and you will pick them out of the background. Most of Randy´s shots are under 6 ft away from the gun, and often the spear barely leaves the gun. Those fish are not diver shy. I had to work a lot harder to get within 9 ft most of my life snorkeling. Line atached spears. And not so accurate because of the distance. Now that I´m almost 70 will get scuba

    • @danmacmahon3973

      Hey Randy, Yes, We spear a lot of mangroves. Just depends on water depth and what ever else is around. If larger fish are abundant, then I pay little attention to mangroves. But on slower shallower dives, they're one of my favorite fish to spear. They're elusive and smart and somehow you feel like you're accomplished something when you outsmart them! Best, Dan
