Taken that "The Wizard of Oz" was released the same year as the first BHS quartet contest (1939) it makes the most sense that Over the Rainbow would work as a barbershop chart.
@@speedylinguine I checked - he and Joe Connolly have won the most at 4. He was baritone for Keepsake and PLATINUM, and lead for Max Q and Main Street.
@@inniaa ah, Keepsake was the one I was thinking about. Next year’s contest is gonna be a really tight race between Three & and Half Men, First Take, and Lemon Squeezy. I’m super excited for it, def wouldn’t be surprised if Tony nabs his 5th
Clay Hine can do no wrong as an arranger. There are some really cool homages to Ed Waesche’s arrangement of “Over the Rainbow,” which Second Edition won with in ‘89.
To my occasionally tin ear, that's an F4 (just above middle C). At first, I though it was just the tenor sliding up to it and a mistake in the transcription. But it disappears as soon as the bass drops out while the rest hold their note a bit longer. So I think it really is an overtone. It's the 5th of that dominant 7 chord, so makes sense as an overtone. One of the more obvious overtones to hear, yet so subtle as it's not way up high. It really blends in well as its right in the range where everyone is singing. Just so, so good!
Hey Jason, just wanted to know do you sing barbershop? Do you belong to the barbershop harmony Society if not, please join especially if you love singing not just college courses become a real member. It’s a lot of fun.

Assuming you are serious, the guy on the far right - Tony - is the father of the guy on the far left - Joseph. So it's a bit of a riff on the TV show Two and a half men.
Please stop I can't believe that it's some how ok that people can take something that they have no business touching, "if the wizard of oz had" well it doesn't and there is a reason, cause it,would be as wrong as this is, yes they have talent and are good, BUT FELLAS DUE US REAL WIZARD FANS A FAVOR, GO FIND A BABER SHOP 😢
Music is made to be played, and no two times a song is played is the same. Every time you sing or play a song (live, not a recording obviously) is different in some way, and a lot of the time one group will play a song differently than another. This isn't out of disrespect but because music is sound and not something rigid and physical. Musicians and composers understand this. In fact I think the original composer for the song would love to know their original composition is so well loved it's being sung in many different ways.

I especially liked the part between 0:00 and 5:11.
bro does not like the last second of the video
This is literally the best possible video that could have ever crossed my subscription feed today.
I can’t believe that this group got 4th place. It was an outstanding contest this year!
And next year is gonna be even better. Calling it now
If they win gold, would that be Tony's fifth? I think that would be the record.
@@inniaa I think 4th or 5th, I’ve lost count of how many quartets he’s won with

The minor 4th to major 5th is so satisfying at 2:18.
Josh's voice is so buttery smooth

This is one of the tightest sounds I’ve ever heard! The way they lock in their tuning the entire time is just amazing!
I absolutely love this. What an arrangement 😍
The future champs - with a bass most other bases want to grow up to be! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
And I don't think he was in top vocal shape that week. I heard them in early May at Region 9s convention and thought he was better then.
Really extraordinary. So musical, so much emotion. Bravo!
Great to see these masterpieces again Jason!
Very nice suit choice
3:55 What the hell is that overtone?!

Glad to see youre back at it, Jason! Love the vid!

I do! And I am a member of the society! I've been to the past two international conventions and I plan on continuing to go as much as I can!!
@@jasonfieler great job Jason keep the whole world, singing, brother
Man, this bass gives me Connolley vibes, or the guy from Masterpiece (cant remember his name)
Pay no attention to those gentlemen called judges. They should go see the wizard too

Oh my god
That is all
Is the guy on the right side of the screen in voctave? If not he looks just like him
Yep! I'm not sure if he's with them anymore, but I know he used to be at least, and was the musical director for a time
He may not be they have a different musical director and I don't see him in their newer videos but thought he looked familiar
He left during the pandemic. He’s a busy guy!
It is him. Tony DeRosa.
I thought it was Tony who was in Main Street?
What’s their name?
Three and a Half Men
I wonder where their name came from
from what I heard, it was because when they first formed/competed, Joseph (their tenor) was around 16 or 17 at the time.

like if you heard it multiple times :X :X :X
Some very noisy breathing -it can be done silently
meh
