Two things may happen when close to the election: (1) late deciders surge toward the challenger because he is fresh and new. This is what happened in 2016 when late deciders went for the challenger Trump. (2) decision went from referendum against incumbent to choice between two candidates. This is what happened in 2020 when Biden leading by big margin early but end up winning by only 4%. This is because early polling was a referendum on incumbent Trump, but at election time becomes choice between Trump and Biden. At this moment, (1) the polling may still be a referendum against Biden and not quite a choice between Kamala and Trump yet (2) the late decider may surge toward Trump because he is technically the challenger, but may also surge toward Kamala because she is new and fresh while Trump is the tired same old thing. So adding 3~4% to Trump may not make any sense in this election.

The polls were underestimating Biden. People were more expressing their dissatisfaction then how they would have actually voted. Had things continued as they were, I do think Biden would have lost, but it still would have been relatively close. I don't see how Trump wins this. I think people have to admit they are worse off than four years ago, but I'm not sure the average person believes Trump will necessarily make the economy better and to what extent they do a lot are more worried about social issues. The press is doing a lot of lying about Trump, he's about as coherent at his rallies as he was 8 years ago. BUT, its less fun, some of its stale, the we are going to build a wall and Mexico will pay for it was such a great line. Now its more, we are going to undo all the garbage that Biden did. I think the complacency of 2016 is behind us. Energizing young voters is also key. That's why Biden was doing so poorly. But the key thing is for everyone to show up and vote on the day. The polls were underestimating Biden. People were more expressing their dissatisfaction then how they would have actually voted. Had things continued as they were, I do think Biden would have lost, but it still would have been relatively close. I don't see how Trump wins this. I think people have to admit they are worse off than four years ago, but I'm not sure the average person believes Trump will necessarily make the economy better and to what extent they do a lot are more worried about social issues. The press is doing a lot of lying about Trump, he's about as coherent at his rallies as he was 8 years ago. BUT, its less fun, some of its stale, the we are going to build a wall and Mexico will pay for it was such a great line. Now its more, we are going to undo all the garbage that Biden did. I think the complacency of 2016 is behind us. Energizing young voters is also key. That's why Biden was doing so poorly. But the key thing is for everyone to show up and vote on the day.
