The clarity and distinctiveness of each note, in both tone and dynamics, seems phenomenal. It will need a great player as there will be no hiding poor playing... Conversely, it will likely induce any player to quickly improve to tame it!
I love that guitar. It’s the best sounding guitar I’ve heard, and hands down the best Gibson. It’s deep, full, articulate, and “present.” It’s like John Wayne in “Rio Bravo.” My wife is shaking her head as I’m giving her my “can I please spend the money” look. It’s now at the top of my want list. Thanks for showing it to us. I grew up 2 hours Southwest of Bozeman and, for some reason, it took me back home.
Goodness and I mean just that "PURE GOODNESS" and TONES of it at that ( if you know what I mean). It' funny that the comments made by the other listeners below and your closing remarks mirrored those that I had said to myself as you were playing. That guitar is special and It brought out something extra special in your playing as well . If I had found that guitar many many many years ago I probably would not be such an old Martin guy.
Sounds just like my Papa's Yari! He bought a brand-new Alvarez Yari in 1986, and has played it ever since. He still plays it in church. It has a booming bass sound, and I have never heard another guitar sound as good as it does. This is the only one I've heard sound anything like it! It's awesome!
They are a totally different animal than other Gibsons. The AJ is louder and more powerful than Martin HD28s are. A absolute CANNON. Not what you expect for a Gibson. I had one made in 2010 and sadly it burned in a house fire 3 years ago and a new one is now 6k bucks 😢. I paid 1800 for mine used back in 2010 But they were specifically designed to crush the Martin D28 back in the 1930s and they definitly can do it ! Rosewood, light bracing, long scale, they are a beast
I'm a bass player who (badly) dabbles with guitar. The best sounding Acoustic I ever picked up was a used 2007-ish Advanced Jumbo at a GC in Cedar Rapids, IA. I should have bought it. Never heard anything like it before. Glad to see they are still making them!
The AJ is the CANNON of Gibson history. Designes to crush the Martin D28 back in 1936. Hence the nickname " bone crusher". Loudest most powerful acoustic guitar i ever heard and played. A bluegrass monster! Just someone talking across the room will make them resonate and ring. Mine would hum sitting on the wall when someone talked 😂. I miss it so badly !
I could live with this Gibson and I am a Martin mahogany and Adirondack guy. Please tell Cooper, "happy Chanukah" and merry Christmas to you Chris. BEAUTIFUL guitar! And great to hear you again, BUT, you should be ashamed for tempting me, because I think this guitar sounds AMAZING!
Willie Henkes research on old Gibsons has shown Gibson stopped using Brazilian rosewood for back and sides in 1934. So, the original AJ's have Indian Rosewood sides and back, like this reissue. I've played 2 original AJ's and a Radio Grande Smeck. The rosewood was certainly not what Martin was using.
I'm lucky to own this one...beyond the words.I love my Southern Jumbo,J-200 is really great for singing,L-00:little wicked one,but the AJ is my treasure :-)
I had a AJ made in 2010. Most powerful and loud acoustic guitar i ever played. A bluegrass monster! Just blew me away. I traded a Martin HD28 for it after a guy totally drowned me out with the AJ 😂. I was shocked and impressed. Sadly it burned in a house fire 3 years ago and now a new one is around 6k 😢
Thanks, Chris. Great sounding BUT the thick neck waves me off. Recently played a Bluebird (complete with Pickguard blue bonnets) and a Chris Stapleton 150th anniversary Epiphone Frontier: both great guitars out of the Bozeman Custom Shop.
They both sound beyond amazing though I may be partial to the first of these Jumbos you showcased. While I can't afford either at the moment, I felt the first demo was pretty affordable all things considered at that around 4gs, but I didn't catch you disclosing the price on this one. More, less, same??
@johnwashburn3793 I also am legally blind. Nothing stops me (or you) from calling Paul or Chad @ MV or Chris & Cooper to express interest in a model. You might get a very nice response. Thanks. And thank you Chris McKee!
Gibson Acoustic has stepped up their game based on some recents I have played locally. This one sounds super.

Those "Made in Montana" guitars will do that. The Custom Shop guitars especially.
forget the wife just get it...i know u have a ton of stuff to flip!!!!!
My father owned the original .... rare mahagony model of this from 1939. It is still in the family. Thank you. That sounds great!

Believe it or not my acoustic Squire sounds better than any other dreadknot slope shoulder. Both in person and recorded. It’s crazy.
@@malcolmadams2105 I didn't know Squire had an acoustic lineup. What model is it?
Oh wow. Oh wow. I don’t normally care for the sound of Gibson acoustic guitars but this thing sounds phenomenal. Gibson really nailed it with this one

Love it when Chris demos guitars

What was the price they were asking? I stop by the CR store from time to time and did not see it. It must have sold fairly quick.

This is a classic the shape , scale length looks everything... this is the total package 📦
Very nice performance..
I love these long scale advanced jumbo gibsons.
Amazing playing as always Chris¡!! Love that guitar

I have one and it is amazing. His review is spot on.
Sounds incredibly good
Hey Chris. Thanks for the AWESOME review. Do you happen to know what strings you were using?
Sounds great. Looks good. It’s a keeper.

what a sweet sounding guitar
The advanced jumbo is a beast.

Just wow! The dream.
Nice playing Chris! Little slower than usual which I assume is to accentuate the rosewood overtones?
I thought it not possible but by dam I think that sounds better than the 1934 advanced jumbo you and cooper reviewed a few days ago!!
Awesome guitar !🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
That's a beautiful slow piece beginning at 5;35. Is it an Eva Cassidy song? The title escapes me!
Fields of Gold. Eva covered it but I believe Sting wrote it?
@@robertwilson6144 Thank you - yes, Sting wrote it as far as I know.
Man. Top of my list
This is a Bo-hunka-Chunka Beast! Paul @MusicVilla is probably drooling...
Paul @ Music Villa will or is selling one. Great guitar.
As well he should. I must have missed it. I am legally blind and I miss some things.
@johnwashburn3793 I also am legally blind. Nothing stops me (or you) from calling Paul or Chad @ MV or Chris & Cooper to express interest in a model. You might get a very nice response. Thanks. And thank you Chris McKee!
4:10 Relax, i put my headphones ... my sennheiser headphones! 😉
(Edit.) Worth it!!!
Are you sure that's a gibson ? Really nice
Dont be afraid of the epiphone AJ 220
Even your voice has resense in it. What does the guitar sound like without the boost.
Shaped very much like Taylor’s Grand Pacific
Pretty sure it’s the other way around
What he said
Bustoff
How much..? Lol
for you???? 6 grand
