Tanzania is a large country with major safari locations in the north (the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater) in the south (the Serengeti and the Serengeti National Park) (The Selous and Ruaha). Most people travel to Tanzania's north because it contains the country's most famous sights - and rightly so, for the wildlife and game viewing are superb.
However, the north's fame can often eclipse the south, which is one of East Africa's best-kept secrets, in our opinion. The most luxurious safari option is in West Tanzania. It is incredibly costly to travel there, and as a result, few people visit. According to a rough estimate, 70% of travellers travel north, 25% travel south, and only 5% or fewer travel west.
