I just purchased a Newcomb Studio with two treddles a week ago. I am loving your videos! they are detailed, and that is what I need as a beginner! Thanks for putting in time doing this!
Thank you for the videos. I used to weave and there is currently a Union 36 loom for sale at an auction in my area, for $6. I almost thought about it, but then remembered how I used to swear every time I warped a loom! I don't have the room for it anyway and don't need another project. Sure was tempting. Still have until Noon tomorrow to decide if I want to bid on it. One thing you can do to make your warping go faster, when you get to the end of your warp, cut the warp at the beam, and tie on new warp threads and pull them through instead of re-threading all the heddles all the time. You can keep your warp running almost indefinitely. When they start running out at different times is perfect, join with a weavers knot and keep going.
I just bought a Union 36 off of Craigslist in Ohio. I didn't know anything about them. I decided I have a "Craft Bucket List". I have always wanted to get a loom and learn to weave rugs. I had started crocheting rugs with sheets. I kept looking for How to Load the Warp and found you!!! Your Videos are so Well done. You show the details of everything!!! Thank You!
I love your videos and share them often with friends. What size yarn do you use for your hems? I have a union too and love it. Thanks to your videos I finally figured out how to use the yarn guide and sectional warping. Big time saver.
Really enjoyed this! Have a couple of questions: Loved seeing your fabric prep - was wondering if there was a reason you cut all your strips instead of ripping the fabric? During the actual weaving it seems like you don't do anything special to try to avoid your strip knots falling at the selvage? Is it your experience that it really doesn't matter in the long run? I wove a sock looper rug once, and spent a lot of time fiddling so that those knots joining the loopers did not fall at the selvage turn. [I don't know why I thought I had to, but I did it anyway...:)] BTW - your runners have beautifully straight selvages!
Hi Robin. When I am weaving a traditional rag rug on my Union Loom I do not worry about the knots. That is part of the charm of the true rag rug. As far as whether or not the knots at the selvedge edge cause any problems , I have not found that to be the case in the many, many rugs I have woven. I do try and keep my edges as straight as possible. My joins are secure and I have never had any problems when the knots fall at the edge. I cut my strips versus ripping because I feel like I get a neater strip. As with everything it is all a matter of personal preference. Thanks for watching and glad to hear from you.
What is a fair price for a rug? How do figure out what to charge for any item you make? I need an income and would love some help with this! Thanks in Advance!!!
I'm in Germany, so I don't know your prices. I payed a lady of an upholstery and carpet workshop 18 € per square metre, that is about a carpet of 2 x 4 feet. The workshop of the home for handicapped people wants 28 € for the same work. I gave the cutted stripes to the lady and got very nice carpets.

Where do you purchase your thread?
I get my string from a place called Great Northern Weaving. I order from them online. Nice people and quality products.
Thank you. I love your videos, very detailed.
