How to make a simple forced air propane burner for melting furnace

  • I made this video because people think that the propane air mixture burns inside the burner, so why doesn't the burner melt if that is the case. A burner does not have to be complicated to work, this is as simple as it gets.

Really appreciate when you note the dimensions that “do not matter.” I’ve wasted hours trying to locate needless dimensions. Your info is a life saver. Thank you.

How do you prevent the propane (once the line is open) from going into the blower tube and vacuum cleaner just before firing the furnace? (that moment when the propane is running and you haven't fired the furnace?)

The single most useful piece of information was "it won't work outside the furnace". That could have saved me hours of wondering why it wouldn't work. Brilliant video's. Thanks.

I built basically the same burner over a decade ago- smaller, 3/4" NPS pipe, a needle valve to regulate the gas flow off a propane barbeque regulator, and a squirrel cage blower with a ceiling fan speed controller to regulate its speed. Works like a charm. Once you have a spot on your refractory glowing red, it will never go out.

I built a burner based on this design. I fired it up this morning, and it works great. Why bother with complicated when simple gets the job done? I used about 7-8 psi of propane and the low setting on a hair dryer for the forced air. This was the first heat on a new furnace to fire the castable refractory. I'll be doing an Al melt tomorrow morning. Thanks luckygen.

Thank you very much for sharing the knowledge of making a simple(best) propane burner.I played around a while trying to get the nozzle type to work and spent time and a few dollars. Your burner works best and is the cheapest. Thanks from Canada

okay, this answered my question I posed on your other video. So propane and air CAN melt cast iron using your better furnace design from other videos. You do NOT need oil involved at all if I understand correctly. By adding oil to the equation, you just speed up the heating process and save money on propane yes? And you get this oil as waste oil from local autozone type places and they allow you to have some for free? The way I see it, getting waste oil is not practical for me so I am HOPING propane and air can melt cast iron and steel. That is my goal...

I love the simplicity of your furnace. I've been bellyaching about building one for a couple months.

Brilliant, I've just upgraded my burner to burn propane and oil too, based on your video. Thank you so much for this. Cheers!

I've been looking at all these videos of these high tech burners and was feeling pretty low.

That is the most ingenious design.

For the record, I posted the other day asking about your 'oil burner build' - I'm pretty sure I was thinking about this video.

Hey Lucky, I've been looking at video's on making a burner, most are just too many brass fittings, machined, soldered etc.
