Finally we get to see David Corenswet on set and in costume for James Gunn's Superman film. Does the costume look better compared to the first initial photo reveal we got...?

@@jasonavery I’m all for the Kingdom Come style mixed with the new52 flare. It’s something we haven’t seen yet in live action. But I get it if you don’t like it, believe me. My favorite will always be the classic 70’s version.

This suit doesn't make sense to me. The trunks don't go with the thick jumpsuit, I hate the collar, the only thing I like are the colors.
If I cross my eyes or try to make it look blurry, then it looks decent, but as soon as everything comes into focus it just looks bad.
I agree. I want to love it, I really do. I want this to succeed, because I don't want Superman shelved for a decade because this bombed. I love the color and the casting. I mean, he does look so much like Cavill in many pictures. I'm not a huge fan of that style S, it's overly minimalistic for an emblem that was already simple. The bunching up of the suit looks down right shitty. I mean, the Superman and Lois suit does a bit of this too, but not at this level. And, I don't care for the underwear on film. It looks dated. I didn't used to think that way, because I was pissed Snyder got rid of it. I got used to that really quick, because it made sense for it not to be there. But, seeing it back on looks cartoonish. There is no purpose, and a big belt holding up trunks looks silly in modern times. Regardless, I hope it succeeds.
Indeed. Why THE FUCK does Superman need a collar? The collar makes him look like some sort of millitary man, which works really well for the evil or dictator versions of Superman (i.e. Injustice, Red Son, Justice Lords etc.) but not main Superman. Why are so many filmmakers afraid of embracing the classic superhero looks in their movies?

Looks like a fricken wetsuit...when they revealed Brandon Routh's suit on set, it looked just like it did in the movie except the cape wasnt attached.
At least a wetsuit fits to the body. Batman '89 was a wetsuit with muscles glued onto the chest and it looked much better since it actually fit on Keaton's body.
People laughed at Brandon Rouths suit. It had low cut bikini briefs and the red cape and boots looked brown. People weren’t excited. It’s pretty standard for people to dislike new super suits until they grow on people. Color and film grading will change the entire look of the suit.
My thought is that maybe the back of the suit is unzipped for ventilation purposes between shots.
With a zip up, and a more upright, shoulders back, posture it would look better.
That wouldn’t explain the loose arms. There are photos of him clearly in the middle of scene where the suit is still loose and bunchy. The material is too thick
I love the suit. The fit doesn't bother me as it's not baggy but just... natural. Suits don't perfectly hug musculature and superman a lot of the time I don't associate him with extremely defined musculature. Grant Morrison described it as because he's naturally strong he's big but relaxed; being too defined can looks a bit intimidating. The build gives me a very classic superman build to me and I think the uber shredded muscle suit look is mainly just comparisons with cavill. Reeve wasn't too defined nor routh because superman's about the shape and presence as opposed to the abs. Just my take as I love the classic and modern approach

@@JB-1138 Yeah it makes the character look like they're making up for them not being big. Like homelander in the boys is super skinny so he has canon fake muscles to maintain his image. (anthony starr isn't a diva his diet on a recent men's health video is about being quite lean for that reason).
I only like fake muscles when not glued down. batfleck just looks kinda funny in the abs. cavill is like the upper limit of what I like and it's only because the chrome adds to the look and not just padding. Because, this costume is very skin tight so it hiding corenswet's physique is showing how fabric and muscles ACTUALLY WORK. I think Chris (god bless him I'm not being rude just observing) just prefers muscle suits and has the zack snyder 'modern god' mentality, at least physicality wise; plus his preference for muscle suits in cosplays.
Obviously it's subjective but to me superman looking powerful comes off more with just sheer mass, being lean and shredded doesn't come off as power to me, like spider-man is typically lean and shredded and his focus is on agility.

It looks fucking terrible, and that’s a dumbass take on the other Superman suits. Cavill’s will always remain the best looking Superman. At least with his suit you could actually see how big he really got for the role.

I like it , looks a bit like a working class jumpsuit - it's something no one would wear with those colors but that makes it all the more whimsical.
I know superman is drawn traditionally with the proportions of a body builder with rippling abs seen through his suit,
But this is distinct and im interested to say the least.
If you take a look at the old Civil War Spider-Man behind the scenes footage - he wore a ridiculously loose suit in some scenes with lots of folds and such but used CGI to make it look like the comic accurate bodysuit with almost zero creases. Let’s hope they’ll do the same.
This reminds me of when the gta 6 dev footage got leaked. Everyone was shitting on it even though its not even released yet.

Not better more familiar to the established suit you have in mind. I'm personally not a big fan of the new suit but I'll wait to see it in action. I like the design not the fit. But I think Gunn is going for more of a MCU captain America than a Reeve or Cavill look.

@jingleballs9935 I think the design looks awesome but the fit just doesn't look good. But these are still photos so seeing it moving may work better. At the end of the day though all that matters is we get a great film that gets everyone excited for the new DCU.

I absolutely love this suit and I think we all know that there's going to be CGI retouches on all of this, but the design itself is awesome.
The Henry Cavill suit had a lot of padding in it to make it look better in still images. But ultimately all of these suits are going to get retouched with CGI. I mean it's 150 million movie
My opinion on the suit....
The colors look great. Love how bright the colors are.
The size of the symbol. Not too big, not too small.
I wish the belt buckle were oval and not square.
Not crazy about the collar. It seems to high.

Ion know, Maybe it's because at the back of my mind I've had All Star Superman this whole time, but Frank Quietly's Superman costume is also illfitting, infact the material is a very simple cloth as opposed to this in the film, I mean if the fit's driving so many people crazy, then thank God he they didn't do the very short cape

Pretty much agreed on everything. It just looks like someone cosplaying with an oversized suit. I really don't understand why Gunn chose this as the final design. I see better fan made stuff all the time. I've even seen fan made stuff of THIS suit and it looks better. The lines don't really mean much to me. They're just lines that have no real purpose. Even if it was just to make the suit look cooler, its still just whatever to me. It almost feels like they knew the suit didn't look that good, and in a last ditched effort, they decided to throw some lines on it to try and make it look better.
I wasn’t a fan of the suit at first but these pics changed my mind. I’m fine with it and biggest thing ppl need to wait and see the movie/trailer and see how it looks on the big screen
Not only does he look puffy but the trunks isn’t helping him either. The separation from the torso and legs makes him look smaller in stature. Like he’s almost wearing high water pants. If Batman gets the same trunks treatment I’m checking out. Such a bygone era

The Cavill suit is skin tight and looks like it's from another world. This looks like a motorcycle suit. It doesn't mean the movie will be bad, but it's strike one.

Why is it “strike one” when we know the suit will be retouched and color graded in post? Y’all do this everytime a suit looks baggy on set, and look dumb when it looks nothing like that in the movie itself. I.e black panthers civil war suit, caps avengers 1 suit etc.

In any case, you and other people here keep bringing up that post-production effects made MCU suits looked better, but you all seem to overlook the fact that one of the big complaints is that this Superman suit looks too much like something from the MCU. So you bringing up the MCU isn't really reassurring.
The colors ade definitely spot on. But they may make it look greenish later in editing, like in MOS.

I like the design and colours, however it does have this motorcross jacket look to it that is hard to get past. I also agree, the reveal has been poorly handled, the initial boot pulling photo was clearly a behind the scenes snap that some idiot thought would make a good poster. No, do a proper reveal, hint of capt, flash of blue, belt, dash of symbol. I really hope this movie holds up, but it might have been better to make a Superman & Lois film.

Its a special suit made to protect Superman from a threat. He wears various suits in the movie. The first form-fitting leaked photo that James said was fake, wasnt. Think about it...chances ai would get the crest correct?
When the suit fits real tight its hard from them to move in when the move comes out with cgi it's going to look awesome

My only issue is that it is not as that form fitting as the Henry Cavil one,there are no muscle definition and it's baggy in places😂,the chest lacks definitions, colors and textures are cool though!

Where do you guys get the silly idea that post-processing is some kind of magic that washes away the F**kups of the costume and makeup departments?
If they were going to "Fix" anything in post, his suit would be grey with white and black patterned splatches and ping-pong balls attached to it for the mo-cap tracking.
Costume looks awesome more comicbook accurate. And not the sad color costume from Cavill and Gunn is going to fix this wrinkles or baggie arms of the suite this is something Marvel always do and at the end they fix this issues. I do believe they want this so David has more mobility in the action scenes
I think he's going to be a good Superman, the first suit according to the comics his mother made for him. So if they are going that route,it actually looks really good, I dont mind the retro look a bit, reminds me of a Christopher Reeve style. I liked the Snider Verse as well, but let's give the guy a chance instead of acting like a bunch of drama queens. He looks the part of both Superman as a young adult and the goofy looking Clark Kent, even Christopher Reeve played that part well. Give it a chance, he may just surprise people😁😁

I think it is a beautiful design, I love the cape and Superman emblem on it, but it really does sit a little bit too loose........ actually.......... who remembers the Christian Bale the Dark Knight motorcycle gear?
Color and style, perfect update to the Christopher Reeves 78 Superman. Fit, bad cosplay.
After looking at the suit from several angles and the set pieces, I think I'm starting to get a feel for the intended aesthetic of the movie. I think Superman's musculature is downplayed on purpose. Why else put a suit like this on a Superman physique? I believe the idea is to make what he does the attraction, with less emphasis on how he looks doing it. The costume has modern inspirations but also classic throwbacks that hearken back to Superman's early years in comics.
Upon first glance at the newspaper pictures of Superman, I was immediately reminded of Max Fleischer's Superman cartoon. There is a very definite blend of modern and old school designs on display.
I think the issue with modern costumes is the over-sexualization of the body. Instead of a uniform, the body has become the uniform. Superman has certainly been depicted with a hyper-masculine, skin-tight costume in the comics. However, the body itself is not the primary focus here. Superman is not super because of the size of his muscles. What Superman does is what tells us all we need to know about him. His appearance is a reflection of his character. His intention is not to showboat and draw attention to himself for personal gratification. He wants you to know he's righteous and that you are safe when he is around. If you are intimidated by him when you see him, then you're on the wrong side of the law. Despite his god-like power, you can stand next to him and feel perfectly at ease because his intentions are honorable.
I recall James Gunn commenting that the tone of the movie will be of a lighter nature. The images I've seen definitely exude a feelgood nature, not unlike Richard Donner's Superman film from the 70's. With this style of film, the darker moments and more serious scenarios are more impactful when they occur. Two scenes from the 70's Superman come to mind: the death of Johnathan Kent and Lois's death.p Contrast that with Zack Snyder's aesthetic (which I did enjoy) where a dark cloud is covering the whole movie.
I'm hopeful for James Gunn's Superman because I love the character. When he is depicted accurately, I can't think of a more uplifting and inspiring character. I'm hoping this new franchise can bring back the good vibes I got from Reeve's Superman while creating its own identity.

The suit will be fine. Christopher Reeves suit today would be ridiculous. It’s all about the portrayal of the character. That’s gonna sell the suit and movie. Plus I promise there will be a final act suit in the film.
I think this is done on purpose to throw the fans off, I am thinking the suit will be completely CGI.
I dunno about the suit. I kinda love that they’ve gone with the Kingdom Come “S” shield design- it has never made sense to me why Supes has a perfect s on his chest. The kingdom come s always looked more alien to me- like something humanity has mistaken for an S. I know they tried that in MoS but it didn’t make sense then imho.
The fit is strange. I’m guessing they’re going for the more “spacesuit” thing is my only explanation. Like it’s a found item in the ship from krypton rather than something specifically designed to be a superhero suit? That’s the only excuse Incan see and I can’t see it being “fixed” in post production. It cost a bomb to alter a moustache for Justice League, how much would it cost to alter an entire suit!?!?
Finally I get why they’ve brought the red trunks back, but equally I don’t get it. The red trunks never made sense to me. I much preferred it when they changed it up for the new 52 suit (which this has vines of with the collar) and in a lot of the stuff for the past 20 years where they just got rid of the trunks!
The good is the colors and the yellow symbol on the cape ...the bad it's to thick and the symbol looks flat . Maybe on screen it will look better but right now it's not looking good.

I understand the critique. I feel like the choice of fabric is the creative choice I am seeing it that this is literally a blue collar Superman this is less of a superhero suit it is that but it's also a uniform that a lot of blue color working people where. It's a fair criticism but I feel like there's a reason behind it fitting the way it does it also reminds me of All Star Superman how it's a little loosely fitting and I know that's a huge inspiration in this story. Have to wait and see but I really love what I'm seeing so far is it perfect no but the only suit in my opinion that's ever been perfect is Ben affleck's BVS suit everything else has degrees of I would have tweaked this or that. Overall I'm very excited he looks great in the suit I love the colors I love the trunks I love the yellow s on the back I love the design and I really do think the way it looks is on purpose it's not supposed to be as form-fitting otherwise they would have because they've been doing this in the '70s

It is literally so that he can move during action scenes instead of looking stiff like Batman trying to turn his head. It will obviously be cleaned up in post, use some common sense.

Yeah, similar to Captain America's costume in the first movie. James Gunn is using his Marvel background, and MCU hates spandex/stretchy-types of costumes.
This is the biggest complaint I see is that its too baggy, but almost every single super hero suit is baggy to help actors do the action scenes and its fixed and edited later to take the baggy look out. The ones that are actually skin tight while filming are always a major complaint from actors because of how hard it is to film in.

Most of the action scenes you see in superhero movies are either stuntmen or fully CGI.
This is a silly excuse.
Henry Cavill's Superman suit looked right and a good fit without making it look like it was wearing him instead of the other way around.
Tom Holland's Spider-Man suit (in the scenes he's actually wearing it and not the CGI scenes) looked right without.........you get the idea.

I like the colors. But the bulk and bagginess of the suit doesn’t fit Superman who should have a thin tight-fitting costume that fits under his clothes. The lack of musculature on the torso is very strange.
Most superhero suits look baggy on set. They just use cgi to make them look better.

I really like the modern esthetic of the suit with keeping the classic design. The fit is definitely kind of rough. It could have been more form fitted to his body. That's its biggest weakness.
Fun fact, someone working on the film confirmed that with vfx and editing that the suit will fit him better and be a bit more skin tight. (Similar to how Chris Evans Captain America suit was quite roomy for comfort until the editing process, where it was made to fit him better)

I think the bagginess is probably the post production look and just to have the actor feel comfortable while filming and they will probably edit it after filming. But I will say the bagginess is also an inspiration from the All Star Superman version because his suit in the comic does look baggy in All Star Superman.

Yes. Suits being baggy on set isn’t new, and people know this. The suit itself is normally a guide, and what they can refine in post, they will. Cavill’s was also CG although it was skintight. Marvel has done this plenty of times, this’ll be no different. They just want to complain lol.
this is obviously the Jim Lee Superman suit design which doesnt work in live action.

Up to now I’m sorry to say not impressed by the costume, yet as you said Chris this could be post production, so I’ll pass judgment come the trailer hopefully the suit will look better, great video 👍

I’m not sure the backstory of suit (did Martha make it?). Not sure if more than one suit. Too much left to the story to know and judge from set pics. Also there is a damage suit that looks different so at least 2 suits
I dno what it is but the loose fit and lack of muscles suits the character cos it looks more friendly. I can't really bring myself to draw a 6 pack on Superman at the minute. It just looks like he's pumped from MMA training and is ready and wanting to fight. It just looks much softer and stuff but he an stilltry tussle with people, I'd now imagine he is performing citizen's arrests rather than thinking he's just a space spartan
He looks horrible in that baggy suit...or...is it the other way?...The baggy suit looks horrible on him.....Man! I say both.
It's a weird costume. It has modern lines but it essentially replicates the classic Superman costume, in a very unsophisticated manner.
It mixes the excessive piping and the New 52 collar with the trunks, thus adding the worst aspects of each suit version in my opinion.
If they bothered to include the trunks, then they should have used the classic Superman crest for the chest symbol, and not the weird Kingdom Come symbol with the classic paint scheme...
Looks sooo bad I do not like the intricate lines why are they even there?!?! Thats not iconinc thats not Superman suit stuff period! And the way this thick matrial bulges up/ wrinkles is SOOO AWEFUL! You dont even see superman muscles at all in this design wtf were they thinking I also hate the colar but thats the least of my problems with it... meh am not gonna watch this!
The original suit from 1978 would've looked a lot better on him than James gunns version. I mean, what's the point to bulk up for the role of Superman when the suit is taking away from what he actually looks like underneath it. Not only that, i just don't like nothing about this new design, especially the cape being too thin? Or the S emblem and the way it looks smh.
Definitely not a good fit, loose is not a look Superman should have. Personally I don't care for all the lines but if you are going to do that, you nees to do more with the emblem. The reason it worked with Chris Reeve is because the whole suit was simple and straightforward - it is the classic look. Here they seem to be trying to mesh a few ideas but it doesn't work. Underwhelming.
Definitely frumpy. Maybe it’s purposeful and he has to absorb more solar radiation to get to his final form. Or, it just looks like crap.

I like the design of the suit (mostly), but the suit looks like it's made of foam or something, looks kinda cheap.
