It really is time that someone played a proper tribute to our brass players and think this simple number does it nicely.
Absolutely brilliant. Mike is probably one of the best Trumpet players on the planet. I like the miller styling.
Beautiful playing as ever from Mike and top notch support from the SLO team! Keep 'em coming! 🎶🎺🎺🎶
Great solo. Great Band!
my regular Saturday night dance band in Brighton still playing ..
Nailed it as always CHRIS DEAN , you are The Gov of Big Bands . This orchestra is a national treasure. BBC / SKY ARTS we need SYD LAWRENCE ORCHESTRA on TV.

@@chrisdean9810 Hey, Chris! Things here doing good, but still no gigs! I wish to return work alive soon! Hope to meet you again! Good job with the band, sounding really good!
All the best
@@joaolenhari hey Joao.
Great to hear from you .
I hope we see each other again soon too .
No wonder John Wilson picked Mike as his lead trumpet for his orchestra.
Another masterpiece under MD Chris Dean.
Lovely isn’t it Tom.
Much more great stuff from our recent recording to come.
Cheers Chris
A trumpet feature arranged in the key of (concert) A Major! lol
It’s the original key that Gozzo played it in . It’s a nice bright sound 👍
@@chrisdean9810 - Thanks. Well I knew there had to be a more substantial reason than the copyist inadvertently hitting Sibelius's 'transpose' button before exporting the parts!
Mike Lovatt probably grew up listening to Conrad Gozzo playing this , as did I. I never cam close . Bravo Maestro Lovatt . What a loving tribute to GOMOTS ! Check Goz out here :ua-cam.com/video/inmYyMGht5k/v-deo.html&ab_channel=AlexSuzano
Not bad, but I prefer to hear cleaner slotting, for instance when playing the opening phrase, slurring the D#, F#, to the B, I like to hear a clean break between the F# and the B, and the same thing on the interval of sixths from the B up to the G#. without clipping those little [in effect] grace notes in there. It sounds cleaner and demonstrates more control and a better command of the instrument. I wouldn't go so far as to give this performance a thumbs-down, I think it's a good job. One time, I was showing my trumpet to a "trumpet-manufacturing expert" at a conference and he commented that he didn't like my make/model of trumpet, citing that it was impossible on that horn to do those slurs from G to high C without clipping the Bb in there. Then I proceeded to demonstrate it without the grace note effect. Then, I went him one better and slurred octaves from C to high C, and the same thing chromatically down through the partials. Then I did tenths, C to high E and down the line. After demonstrating that, I said to him "I'm sorry, I forgot, what was it that you think is wrong with this horn?" Ever since then, and thanks to that guy, I now listen for people slurring and getting those unintended grace notes in there, he got it stuck in my head.
Zzzzz.
What on earth are you talking about?
I can't believe this comment. What an insult to one of the world's finest trumpet players!
Oh yeah , now I got it, Thanks Jason !
@@johnmcilroy6874 Here's Gozzo playing it. I hope this is up to Jason's standards . ua-cam.com/video/inmYyMGht5k/v-deo.html&ab_channel=AlexSuzano
