I REALLY hope the remake preserves the quality/effect of this game's ost in every aspect and detail!
The soundtrack can be used as is for the remake, no OST remaster needed.
Unless Konami wants to remake it new for album sales.
Akira Yamaoka's worked along with Bloober's Arek Reikowski on remaking the original OST.
I always associate this to be the "main theme" of SH2, with nothing to do with Laura at all, haha.
It happened to become the main theme of SH2. They maintained the title just for creative reasons, but the song was used in the opening of the game and at various silent hill 2 ads.
It really describes the whole journey of each character ( especially JAMES ) since the moment they get to silent hill and after they get out of it (no matter in what way they get out), i find it hopeful then gets strange and unpleasant then boom ... A WHOLE WORLD OF PAIN & SADNESS then a bit hopeful again then pain and disappointment, that's why it is the main theme of the game and it also fits laura but not quite like how it fits the other characters, really really MASTERPIECE AND BRILLIANT TRACK .
Just like Ezio Family became the trademark theme of assassin's creed long after the character was done with the series.
It sounds youthful but also hints of darkness with those main guitar chords and sadness with the violins. So I think it actually fits Laura pretty well
That chord imo is very reminiscent of the Twin Peaks theme, I think you can hear its influence on a lot of Akira's work for Silent Hill, but definitely in a few SH2 tracks. Only came to this realisation once I watched the show!
Fun fact, Akira Yamaoka hid the main beat of Twin Peaks as the bass line in the theme of Silent Hill 1.
It's no secret, Yamaoka admitted to being inspired by Twin Peak's OST.
I still remember the first time I heard this song, the first five seconds made me realize this was going to be a banger ! Kudos for Toxic, for the good job playing it and for the person who requested it, for their good taste.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR SILENT HILL 2 BELOW!!
It is actually theorized that James Sunderland (the protagonist of Silent Hill 2) actually had Mary’s dead body in the trunk of his car in the beginning of the game, when you look at Toluca Lake.
(This may be why, in the “In Water” ending, James commits suicide by driving his car into the lake, drowning himself, with Mary’s dead body close to him.)

You have to check out The Promise sometime. It's one of the ending themes to this game and one of the best pieces from the entire franchise. Pity it plays over one of the worst endings to the game.
