lol Well, you get an expectation in your mind & it's disappointing when something falls short. Back in the late 80's my aunt had a Mercedes Hammer that was supposed to hit 185+. My cousin & I got it to a track & measured it at 171.72. That was still an amazing number for the 80's but we had our hearts set on 185 & it fell far short of that.

Thing is, Ed's telling a story that actually happened, which makes for a much more linear flow... as opposed to the tripe those hacks were trying to feed us from the script.

Lol! I know someone that bought an 87 5.0 mustang that had been sitting in a barn on jackstands since 1993 and had it up to well over 100 mph on at newest 1993 tires!
It was a very special car but it didn't do it for me. Fortunately, I think the dealer I sold it to did pretty well with it. They drove it over 1k miles before selling it so they had some fun and he addressed the suspension and hp issues that I disclosed to him when he bought it. Can't wait to see where it turns up.

I swear I saw this car more than a few times when you owned it. I used to work in Duluth, and live in JC, I'd swear I saw it on 141 in the JC/Duluth area, as well as going down 400 one day. I've got a pic somewhere. I'd guess it had to be you, because it still had the "RUF" plate at the time.

I once bought a old datsun from a police auction for $50 after fees
I parked it at my house, a van backed into it. Her insurance came over (allstate) and said it would cost more to fix that it's worth, I said any running car is worth $500 and I could fix it for that. He cut me a $500 check on the spot.
I sold the car 2 weeks later for $500 and financed $400 of it, repossessed it 6 months later, sold it for $500 again, repossessed it 3 months later. Sold it to my neighbor who wanted to know if it floats.... $250 cash and he sank it. Loved that old car. Hahaha

I have only seen one RUF in my life. It was just sitting in a parking lot and was amazing.
The car probably was great once upon a time, but sitting so long, it probably lost a lot of its flavor.
I live in and have sold "exotic" cars here in Austin since 2006, we have a couple of RUFs running around town here.
I really enjoy the way you tell stories. You’re such an eloquent and concise and don’t dramatize for effect. Such an expensive, rare , and $400,000 (!) car, and Ruf couldnt figure out how to make the electronics work? What, did it have a piggyback and a megasquirt to run the engine? Thats just cheap from Ruf's part.

This is so true, Once I bought a Audi A3 1.8T from 1998 for 350 euro’s with a broken waterpump. Repaired it, and detailed the exterior, repainted the rims and brakes and changed the radio. When I had the car on jacks I saw a titanium sport-catback. Removed it, cleaned it and sold it on the Dutch marketplace for 700 euro’s. Swaped it for a stainless steel one. I placed the car on the marketplace and sold it for 2650 euro’s. Sold it for a total of 3350 euro’s made around 2900 euro’s. (Btw it was my first car).

When I was brand new working in bodyshops, worked at one that specialized in Porsches. The owner actually was racing a bathtub Porsche, ran the VIN at the plant in Stuttgart, was Porsche USA#1. First Porsche ever made for the States, and he had a roll cage in it racing. That car was restored, and now Seinfeld has it. Anyways, we had a 94 RUF come in, knew nothing about it, but I knew I liked it. Took for a test drive, to look for the wind noise the customer was complaining about. OMG what a badass machine.
I am a huge fan of Gran Turismo and always wanted to see a Ruf in person. I haven't been that lucky, but at least you got a good flip and had some fun with it!

Ed needs to get his cars registered for a non-metro Atlanta county. No emissions! It would probably be cheaper to get an apartment outside Atlanta than to deal with sending computers to Germany.
Best flip story I've ever had. Bought an Eclipse that had been broken into and had some interior damage done to it. It didnt run and had a massive exhaust issue. Ive heard it run before, but not running now. The girl bought another car and left this one to sit. I offered her $500 for it.
I took it to the shop and bought $30 in exhaust flex pipe. Welded it up myself. Charged the battery good, cleaned the IAC valve and cleaned up the car. Drove an hour to a junk yard and found matching dash and other pieces to fix the cars interior. I had around $600 in it total and about 8 hours of my own time.
Posted it on FB and sold it the very next day. Sold and delivered about 20 miles away for $2500. That was one of the best months Ive ever had :).

Lol, dealerships won't accept cars for trade but they will scrap it for free. In 2017, if you have a 2003 japanese SUV they won't give you a dime. $1000 for them is like candy on halloween. If you look good, you'll save a few bucks but otherwise they say "no, sorry we can't trade unless you go bring your other new car here".
