Such an incredible ship. I visited the QE2 last week and it was fantastic. I had a great Indian Curry lunch at the lido restaurant and went to the salon on Deck 1 for a haircut and basically explored the ship. I'm so glad it's being preserved and hope it continues to be a success.
The portrait is of Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, originally hung in the main lounge of RMS _Caronia_ , which was in service between 1948 and 1968. _Queen Elizabeth 2_ began sailing in 1969; though, Cunard didn't get the painting back from Southampton City Council until 1994.
I had one crossing NY-Southampton on QE2 in May 2002. She felt old, but that added to the charm. Ship's music system played popular hits from the 1960s, like Petula Clarke's "Don't Sleep In The Subway." Daily tea in the lounge was more fun than dinner, although that was great too. One of the top experiences of my life.
Thanks for watching!!!! That would’ve been incredible to actually cross the Atlantic on the QE2. I wish I had taken the opportunity when it was possible. She is a beautiful ship!!!
In long beach they had a piano bar called Picadelly with jazz from late 40's and 50's was in my twenties " 1980" but loved to go there. Greetings from Panamá
Various vids posted to YT of the QE2 often show it as even quieter than the Queen Mary in Long Beach is. Not sure what the business model is for the QE2, but the Cunard liner from 1934 (in Ca since 1967) has had to scramble to attract visitors interested in old ships & their small cabins for a hotel & also deal with the expenses of a depreciating property. I'd think that would be an even bigger issue for a ship from the late 1960s. By that time, old-timey charm had pretty much vanished. It was instead the era of disco, polyester & bell-bottom jeans. So the QE2 is more nostalgia for nostalgia's sake than for early-1900's, Titanic-era history.
I’ve stayed on both and enjoyed both. The Queen Mary in the 2000’s when I had to attend business meetings in Southern California. My parents actually emigrated to the USA in 1962 via the Queen Mary. The QE2 is good value for a Dubai hotel and the tour they give is well worthwhile. It wasn’t very busy, nor was it empty. As a result I got a room upgrade. It’s in the yacht harbor so nice views and there are some nice restaurants a couple minutes walk or a quick ride on a golf cart shuttle, which is provided if you wish.
The Queen Mary has been financially secured by a deal in which the city of Long Beach gives the hotel a portion of the port fees paid by cruise lines using the adjacent quay. As the city is planning to expand the passenger terminal there to accomodate the increasing demand, the Queen Mary's future looks pretty good--it's already undergone a lot of renovations, with more to come. (When I visited it six years ago, it was quite busy all over.) There's almost nothing left from the 1960s in the Queen Elizabeth 2's interiors; Cunard did a massive overhaul of the ship in the 1990s. Most of the decor in place today dates from then. (Though, the new owners have also made significant changes.) It seems like the plan is to run it the way the Rotterdam is in, well... Rotterdam--a hotel, primarily, tourist attraction secondarily; the reverse of how the Queen Mary is operated. However, Rotterdam's interiors are almost untouched since first installed in 1958-59; they're truly a Mid-Century Modern attraction unto themselves, adding to the appeal of staying there. The appeal of QE2 to the non-ocean liner buff is... I don't know.
Thanks for watching!!! At the Lido restaurant on the Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship, the meal prices are as follows: - **Breakfast Buffet:** AED 99 per person - **Lunch:** Pricing details specific to lunch aren't explicitly mentioned, but given that the restaurant operates on an a la carte basis during lunch, the costs can vary based on what you order. - **Dinner Buffet:** AED 155 per person, with an option that includes four selected house beverages for AED 274 per person. These prices reflect an international cuisine buffet setting, with a modern and chic atmosphere enhanced by sea views. Children under 6 years can dine for free, and those aged between 6 to 11 years enjoy a 50% discount | International Restaurant in Dubai](www.qe2.com/en/dining-nightlife/lido/).
Thanks for watching!!! Yes, you are allowed to swim in the swimming pool of the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2). Guests also have access to the fully-equipped gym.
