    8:13 OMFG, all i can say is thank God i will never have to drive a car with rewebbed seat belts done by this guy.
    This is so dangerous, i would bet the webbing is not certified. The cotton is also way to thin and you definitely do not attract the new webbing to the old. Its not hard to completely take out the old web and then replace it with new.
    Just in case you think i don't know what i sm on about, i have been making seatbelts and rewebbing damaged ones for over 30 years.

    Guess it could be worse. He could have used super glue.
    Please do NOT do this. Any belt I have ever done if UN-reeled all the way you will find either a plastic or metal rod inserted through a sewn pocket in the belt that is inserted in a slot in the take up drum. Pull the belt from the slot and remove the rod. Sew the same pocket in the new web insert through drum and replace the rod. All while making sure not to release tension on the drum before installing new belt.
    Do yourself a favor and find another video how to do this properly.

      True but if u look at it it's the same because he did sew it properly an it's close to the end of the reel and once it's rolled up it should be safe the other way ur speaking about looks more professional by removing the pin.

    • @hpodell

      @@s.dtrinisquad6040 My issue is that the bulk of the strain on impact would be taken at where the belt wraps around the pin or on the other end where the belt passes through the metal slot. The stitching is really only stopping the belt from sliding at the point of impact. This repair is 100% relying on the stitching alone. Plus the added bulk in the take up reel. Makes no sense to not UN-wrap it a few more times and do it right.

      Better still, get a professional to do it! The belt in the video won’t save anyone!

  • @omarspost
    @omarspost 6 місяців тому +1

    bro where's the metal retaining bar on the belt?
    Without that, there's a chance the threading could snap.

  • @xchrisvo

    Did you sew the new webbing with the old one towards the retracting part?

  • @tardis4125
    @tardis4125 Рік тому +1

    Was hoping i could do this myself. But who has sewing machines? I dont think i could find anyone to do this around me

  • @edwardwarrington1809
    @edwardwarrington1809 2 місяці тому +1

    Oh my goodness! If you fix your seat belts like this and have a crash, the seatbelt will not save you.
    You can’t stitch new webbing onto old webbing as shown. That belt wouldn’t have even quarter of the strength of a correctly rewebbed belt. Take your belts to a licensed company.

      i could pull a 3k pound car up a hill with just a seat belt wrapped around the bumper and not even tied. the stitching on that belt is all rolled up when you are wearing it plus the gears catch the belt when in a wreck.

    • @edwardwarrington1809
      @edwardwarrington1809 2 місяці тому +1

      @@MrBlaze256 I have looked into your claim and you are right! You can do what you claim. I don’t disagree with that. In fact, keep doing it by all means. However, if you have a crash and the seat belt didn’t quite have enough wraps on it to hold tight, make sure you tell the person who was wearing it and got injured or died, that it should have worked. You are adding an aspect of chance to the safety of the car’s occupants. But as I said keep doing these sorts of repairs to your belts, you should be ok!
